If you were launching a product, would you:

1 - Underproduce to create hype and no cash
2 - Produce as much as you can to earn cash

This whole underproducing idea is just silly.
It’s genius from a costing perspective and reconciliation. Minimal products on hand no depreciation of product sitting around. Apple runs a very lean production cycle, Tim is an advocate for lean supply chain management. Apple has operated with this mentality since it’s ressurgence and it’s worked for them at a profitability standpoint.

Great advertising: 'Hey Siri, tell Mum I can't be bothered to pick up the phone!'

i ordered early (1x Black), originally it was scheduled for 16th November, now estimated at 19th
I ordered one mid-morning on Friday and it‘s still scheduled for 17-19th delivery. Didn’t expedite it - just standard free shipping.

Can’t wait to hear how it sounds compared to it’s big brother. If good, the plan is to swap out the spare bathroom homepod that’s hardly used.

I own two Homepods and they sound great, really. But Siri is just not good enough. If you thought Siri was bad on your iPhone or Mac it's worse on the Homepod in some aspects and better in others.

She hears you more clearly, that's great.
She takes longer to interact with your home devices that were added to Homekit on your iPhone though. Lights? forget about it.

I can't count the number of times I've said "turn the lights on" for my Homepod to respond "hmm.." "hmm.." "I'm sorry that device isn't responding" or even "You don't have any lights setup" lol but I can go to my phone, hey siri, turn the lights on and boom they're on.

The consistency of the assistant software between the different devices Siri is available on is insane. I can literally say to our Amazon Echo "Alexa turn the lights on" and she does it even faster than Siri on my iPhone that has the lights added right there on device.

So yeah, I love my Homepods for sound quality but Siri is just terrrrrible. So I'm really confused as to why people would want a Homepod Mini unless you've never tried a Homepod before because it doesn't have the sound quality of the big Homepod but has the same bad Siri.

Last thing I wanted to say is I do love my Homepod, for its audio quality. And that's all sadly.
Agreed. I haven’t used my HomePod for Siri either. It’s a great speakers and I bought them for that and that’s why Apple should consider selling them everywhere. It’s just a perplexing strategy to sell HomePod on country it’s Siri working. Why would you want to lose a sale like that?

Any reviews of the mini out there? I’d like to see some reviews before I decide to purchase or not.
I found a single tweet claiming the embargo ends today (Nov9) but who knows. I wish reviews were out before preorders started.

Yeah sometimes Siri works very well, but there’s a lot of times it says “hmmm” and “just a sec” or it can’t find it all together. I got a HomePod mini anyway though for my bedroom and have 1 HomePod in the bathroom and 1 in the living room.

We’ll see how it goes.
I'm not sure about with Home kit, but I've found that after the last couple of updates my HomePods are far more responsive than they used to be. I haven't had one 'hmm' since I updated them, and Airplay is so much better than before. It instantly goes from my iPhone to the HomePods now, where it was sketchy previously.
I do think Apple are improving the response of these, and hopefully they'll improve even more going forward.

I can't wait, it was worth waking up at 11:00 pm to be at the front of the preorder line for the HomePod mini and partner's iPhone 12 Max Pro. The ultra wide band chips in this HomePod mini and iPhone 12s are going to be very useful for more precise location tracking when it comes to home automation geo-fencing plus the benefit of spreading music to a quieter dead zone between the two HomePods.

Siri amuses me sometimes... I'm afraid that next time after having a few drinks and I instruct Siri with a slur to turn on the Bug Zapper that she will responds with, "Sure! Playing some music by Frank Zappa." 😝

I suspect the Mini is probably the perfect accessory for like a bedroom or office, where the regular HomePod is likely more to be centralized in the living room area, where It can really take advantage of boasting its sound.

I am curious to see what others initial thoughts are in terms of the overall audio quality the Mini can produce.
You are correct! Mine is going in the laundry since the audio quality of the other HomePods is not necessary there and being next to garage it will be good to have music in that area. I can issue Siri commands within microphone range and this will be a big bonus to my home automation.

It's interesting you say this because my experience is the EXACT opposite. I never use our HomePod for audio but it's a rock solid mainstay of our smart home, deals with all the lights and sensors etc without fail every time and is even getting really good at recoginising the difference between my wife and I (it was awful to begin with). This is why I've pre-ordered two minis to spread that further through the house without spending a fortune (also I'm sick of my wife shouting down the stairs hoping Siri will hear her).

However both of our posts prove a solid point, Siri and the whole ecosystem surrounding it is inconsisent and what works for one is a disaster for others and despite my positive experiences I couldn't confidently recommend the set up to another.
I would say our Homepod/Siri experience is usually very good (not excellent), depending on how strong the wifi connection is where the Homepod is situated. Stronger the wifi, the more responsive Siri is. I believe she responds to smarthome commands about 90% of the time, which is great in school but less great in a home appliance.

If they have shipping estimates on ORDERS into december, they are both taking cash and continuing to produce them, with a backlog. You didn't really think that through, did you?

But they're not taking cash, they don't do that until despatching items. With a new product, lots of purchases come from impulse buyers caught up in the moment - if you can't satisfy that demand very quickly then the moment passes, you lose your advantage and people either don't place an order or cancel their orders once their pulse rate has gone back to normal. You can't give people time to change their minds, certainly not as part of an actual strategy.

Didn't get on the HomePod bandwagon, as it was too expensive, I think it was £350 at the time. I've got 2 x Sonos One (with Alexa) on the same price as the HomePod, but if they keep adding cool features like intercom I might regret not getting the HomePod.

The sole reason I ordered a Homepod Mini is because someone gave me an Echo dot. I do not trust this thing at all - it's always unusually warm, like it's actively plotting something against me.

However I appreciate some of the basic tasks I can do (timers, calendar, conversions, even simple background music). I can't wait to give Homepod Mini a chance, despite Siri being a little stupid (I expect this) I can't imagine it being utterly useless but I may be wrong lol.

Just in case it is of interest to anyone, currently my order (UK) says:

HomePod mini - White

Arrives 24 Nov

Yeah - I ordered mine within 10 minutes of pre-orders starting and got a delivery date of the 23rd November (white)
Ordered as soon as the site came online. 2x black, had a Nov 16th date right then. Now it's changed to 17-19. Not sure I understand that honestly.

Judging from the comments I guess I should count myself lucky for snagging one for release day.

Doesn’t this happen all the time where people get shipping dates way out and then they keep improving.
