I miss the days when we literally had to fight to pre-order apple products, especially in the early days of the iphone, and the products will be out of stock for MONTHS, not just these few weeks like homepod
Oh hell no. My 12 pro max is already coming at the end of the month due to apple store app issues on the day.

I like the intercom future , but not the assistant software . SIRI is not quite up there in terms of functionality. Nevertheless I think the home automation will integrate perfectly with the entire Apple ecosystem.

I swear I read this same article on 9to5mac last night...
You probably did. Just know when you read news on MacRumors it's almost always second or third hand. 9 to 5 Mac generally gets the news first and MR is generally last.

I own two Homepods and they sound great, really. But Siri is just not good enough. If you thought Siri was bad on your iPhone or Mac it's worse on the Homepod in some aspects and better in others.

She hears you more clearly, that's great.
She takes longer to interact with your home devices that were added to Homekit on your iPhone though. Lights? forget about it.

I can't count the number of times I've said "turn the lights on" for my Homepod to respond "hmm.." "hmm.." "I'm sorry that device isn't responding" or even "You don't have any lights setup" lol but I can go to my phone, hey siri, turn the lights on and boom they're on.

The consistency of the assistant software between the different devices Siri is available on is insane. I can literally say to our Amazon Echo "Alexa turn the lights on" and she does it even faster than Siri on my iPhone that has the lights added right there on device.

So yeah, I love my Homepods for sound quality but Siri is just terrrrrible. So I'm really confused as to why people would want a Homepod Mini unless you've never tried a Homepod before because it doesn't have the sound quality of the big Homepod but has the same bad Siri.

Last thing I wanted to say is I do love my Homepod, for its audio quality. And that's all sadly.
I hear you. And I’m someone who hasn’t had a HomePod - and I bought a mini. The main reason is its $100. I wasn’t willing to try a $300 device to test it out. I’ve been tempted at $199, but figured this was a way to test out the experience. If Siri is acceptable to me, then I may expand my HomePod setup.

I don’t have lights to turn on or anything. But I do have a Bose Bluetooth speaker and while it sounds good, it is kind of a nightmare to pair and often steals my sound out of nowhere when I wasn’t using it. I’m curious to see how much better (if at all) the pairing - and not pairing when I don’t want it to - works on an Apple designed device.

I ordered mine an hour after Preorders opened and got a date of November 18. Black one and in the Southern US.
Interesting - I ordered mine many hours after preorders and mine is set for launch day - well the day after cause I didn’t wanna pay extra for shipping.

must have product staged around the country?

I don't think they do it to produce hype, but I think they may have been more conservative in their initial production of the Mini given that the original HomePod probably wasn't the smash hit they had hoped back then. Producing as much as you can without actually selling, that is the option you really want to avoid.

Agreed. Also, initial demand is a spike. Apple's not going to pour millions of dollars into excess production capacity unless they think it'll be fully utilized into the new year and beyond. It makes more sense to underproduce for a little bit to avoid costly unused manufacturing capacity in the future.

You have to take the Siri complaints with a grain of salt. Siri may not do everything such as wash the dishes but often she hears me just fine on all my Apple products. I'll be in my living room watching TV while my MacBook is in the dining room playing music 20ft away and if I say "Hey Siri turn the volume up on my MacBook" it works every time. Often people have thick accents, speak too fast, speak too slow, speaking outside during a windy day, trying to use Siri in the car with the windows down or have too many gaps between words they speak so automatically they blame Siri. An electronic assistant can't be perfect if the human using it has garbled speech. My nephew and I went on a 2 hour road trip using my GPS that plays music via Alexa. Every time I asked Alexa to play a certain song she would play it without issue. My nephew is 29 years old speaks kinda fast and Alexa just couldn't pick up anything he was saying.

You have to try something out for yourself and don't rely on forums, especially forums like this with members that are from multiple countries so everyone here has different ways of speaking.

Between my partner’s echo and HomePod, I’m definitely happier to own HomePod. Will certainly buy the minis for Apple TV speakers.

Echo has too much Amazon tied to it. Which results and stuff like this to happen.

Yeah that's fair, I forgot it's $99 I was thinking it was $199 in my head when I wrote my comment.

Same experience here. I have a Sonos One and Soundbar. The HomePod is the audio winner, but Siri is hopeless. Also the range of devices it supports is far smaller. I've ordered a HomePod mini but will cancel if the audio reviews aren't very good.

I have a little switch installed on the wall for the lights which responds instantly. Never relies on wi-fi, and saves me the embarrassment of talking to the house!

You are probably right, but I don't feel like I've noticed it this blatantly in the past. This article felt like a word for word reproduction.

I'd take a look at your network setup on that. I am running a Eero mesh and my HomePod isn't running into anything like that.

I ordered 2 of the dark ones once pre-orders opened up, states the 17th of Nov as a delivery date.

I'm using two Ubiquti UHD-HD's in a mesh which then go back to my switch. The same kind of WiFi you see in basketball stadiums serving thousands of users. I get 750Mb/s WiFi with my 16" MBP literally in any room in the house. And so our WiFi is solid as a rock. Any web request on the Homepod is instant like from Apple Music etc it's just Siri working with my Homekit devices from the Homepods which are all over the place.

You can see many people replying to me saying the same thing but two people (you being one of those) refutes it and says theirs works fine so I dunno what the rest of us are doing wrong.

Also Alexa in the same house works instantly every single time. I literally, LITERALLY have never had it not able to control our Hue lights since we got it 2 years ago, not one single failure.. ever, period and we use it to control the lighting in our living room 2-3 times per day.

But.. I don't like Alexa due to the privacy implications. In this regard I trust Apple more (my wife made us get it against my wishes lol).

I know you're joking but it's not that simple lol we have accent lighting in our living room, two standing lights and then the ceiling light. If we were to operate these by hand we'd have to use the switch on the wall, two foot switches for the standing lights and two end-table switches for the table lights.

First world problem but giving Alexa a single command "Alexa, Lights" will make her turn off the ceiling light and turn on all the auxiliary lights for a more cosy feel.

Now admittedly I have the Homepods in my home office and not the living room but here too I have an LED desk strip around the edge of the desk, a table lamp and a ceiling light all controlled through Hue. Siri on my iPhone works with these about 99% of the time. The Homepods it's more like 50%.

I think using a voice assistant if you have a single light, sure it's not really worth it but when you are creating a scene for your rooms with lots of accent lights it can save a lot of time. Plus you can set different lighting scenes for different things you're doing, like when we watch a movie some of the lights in the living room turn off while others dim like a movie theatre. You can control this with the physical Hue remote too but it's nice to just say it and have it done for you (which as I mentioned, Alexa always works).

Pre-orders for Apple's new HomePod mini smart speaker began last Friday, and shipping times have already started slipping into December.

homepodminicolors.jpg

The first wave of HomePod mini pre-orders are expected to arrive in customers' hands on Monday, November 16 at the earliest, but supply constraints have started to hit stock of both white and space gray variants, with the latter color faring worst.

Taking a HomePod mini through Apple's online checkout today, the space gray color delivers between December 2 and December 9 with Express Shipping selected, and selecting Standard Delivery shows delivery dates between December 3 and December 10.

Meanwhile the white color delivers between November 24 and December 2 with Express Delivery selected, and between November 25 and December 3 if choosing Standard Delivery.

The difference in delivery wait times could mean the space grey is proving more popular. On the other hand, it could just be indicative of manufacture and supply chain issues for that particular model. Either way, if you're looking to pick up a HomePod mini as soon as possible, the white color is the one to order.

Lest we forget, pre-orders for the iPhone 12 mini and iPhone 12 Pro Max also began last Friday, and while supplies appear to have been adequate enough to meet initial demand, the 256GB iPhone 12 mini in some colors and some ‌iPhone 12 Pro‌ Max colors and capacities will not arrive until later in November or early December for orders placed now.

Shipping times slipped into early December Friday, haha. I bought a space grey one at launch and then went back on that evening to see if I could get a second and they were already shipping into December with fast shipping.

They're just underproducing them... That way you'll think that the product is super popular when in reality IT IS NOT!
Love to see your link to production and sales numbers, that would be very interesting to see. I mean, you couldn’t possibly make this statement without knowing what they were

Siri is awesome. Must depend what you want to do with it perhaps. Directions, playing music, connecting/disconnecting speakers, timers, note, even playing pandora. No issues.
If you want fart sounds, I agree go google-they cornered the market

If you were launching a product, would you:

1 - Underproduce to create hype and no cash
2 - Produce as much as you can to earn cash

This whole underproducing idea is just silly.
Unless it works, creates a sense of urgency thus driving sales numbers to new heights. See Nintendo products for the last decade at least.

My homepods work like 100% of the time way better than the google minis. And you can add scenes, so if you want to say “upstairs” or “nighttime” to turn off the downstairs lights and turn on the upstairs. You can
