I hope they offer sim free iPhone 8's. Traditionally they haven't offered unlocked versions at launch but since now no one offers subsidized phones, wouldn't it make sense to just offer the unlocked versions?

Side note, I bought an sim free 7 because it has the Qualcomm modem in it vs the intel of the att version

i predict the preordering process will be a complete and total cluster****

shortages always happen with new iphone releases but there are a lot more component constraints rumored for this release

Very likely this won’t go smooth as you described. Tap tap and it’s already sold out. Oops!! You probably won’t go back sleep now that you’re really pissed.

The big problem with preorders is that Verizon shut down orders for non-customers on launch day of the 7, so it was harder to score an unlocked iPhone.

That said, it's not as hard as it used to be to get one on launch day. The website is better if you have to type a lot, the app is better if you have an existing carrier account.

Can I try to order on pre-order day thru the Apple Store? Or will the pending balance prevent that? The device payment that will "catch me up" to upgrade eligibility will come out the week after the pre-order date. :\

* Current device is leased thru Verizon

By now, everyone who's going to buy the next iPhone already has a perfectly good iPhone. I don't understand this frenetic compulsion to get the next model the second it becomes available. It seems weird to me.

I have a large collection of phones (both iPhones and other brands). Some people just love phones. Some people have car collections, or dolls, or baseball cards <shrug>. Heck, I still drag out my iPhone 4 occasionally, which IMO is the best of the lot.

This. Last year I found out that iPhone Upgrade Program members could only pick up in store. All of the stores in my area only had Rose Gold 7+ in stock. Woke up at 3am EST to pre order and couldn't sleep I was so pissed.

So everywhere we go will see people has iphone 8 on their Hand ????

So no one can show up their class :D:D:D:D:D

Bought an iPhone 7+ via the Apple Store app last year. But I don't remember if you had to keep force shutting the app at around launch time to make sure the page is updated when preorders open?

Or does it refresh automatically?

It's a phone. If it's completely sold out in less than a minute, I'll be impressed not pissed :D

Tim Cook just under estimates demand for the best version of the iPhone...every year...it’s like he doesn’t ever get a clue.

I’m worried, based on rumors of supply, that the OLED model might follow the 5s and not be available for pre-order. Time will tell I guess.

Bet on it, though I seriously doubt the bottleneck is Samsung.

I wonder if the expected scarcity of the OLED iPhone will bring us back to the looooong launch line-ups of a few years ago to snag, or perhaps scalp one or two of these supposedly hot new phones?

Or perhaps a return to the lucrative 'simply keeping a spot in the line-up' for a well-heeled prospective 'must-have-it-now-at-all-cost' buyer.

We will find out soon. To pre-order or to get it in-store is the question.

Ive never pre-ordered. Is the app better than the web page to use? Also, if i am changing carriers is it better to use the carrier site (T Mobile) to order?

I’ll take my chances with pre-order. Then it’s possible you might get one on launch day or early October.

You might get a launch day iPhone 8 if you are first in line at the Apple store and extremely lucky.

Ever since Apple has started selling more than one model iPhone, it’s been a complete disaster for those who want the real flagship phone and not a gimped version.

Honestly, I'd prefer if they did the "7S/7S+" on Thursday, and then the "8" on Friday. While it's been better, servers can get hit pretty bad with two phones, let alone the extra excitement for the third.
