I'm not hopping on the Avatar train. It was good an deserves plenty of CG/Sound/etc. Oscars and what not, but I really don't think it deserves Best Picture.

If Sandra Bullock gets best actress for her 'performance' in The Blind Side, I think I will throw up! Her performance was not only completely stereotyped and one dimensional, her completely forced accent was really annoying! For those who don't know what I'm talking about watch this: The Blind Side trailer.

Maybe it was just me who felt this, but I thought that not only was the story pretty obvious (how did it get a nomination for best picture instead of a much better film like 500 Days of Summer or Moon) but I really disliked it...

On another note, I think that either (500) Days of Summer or Moon should have received best picture or at least a nomination. If you haven't seen those films I would highly recommend that you watch them, as they are terrific. Especially Moon if you are even a bit of a Sci-Fi fan because not only was it very thought provoking, but the graphics and scenery used were terrific (not up to the quality of Avatar, but nothing is really). And if you like comedies or want to watch a film with your wife/girlfriend and have a bit of fun then watch (500) Days of Summer. It's hilarious, fun and it has inspired a love of non-linear narrative within me.

I just noticed something. It seems rather likely that someone named "Nick" will win in this category!

(Maybe joined by Nick Hornby for Best Adapted Screenplay.)

If your name is Nick, what's your nickname?

I agree. I think she plays the same character all the time. I don't know why she won Golden Globe and Screen Actors Guild awards.

(The story may have seemed obvious but that's because it wasn't contrived like most plots. It was a true story.)

In contrast, Meryl Streep was fantastic in Julie & Julia. She had only half as much screen time but she really inhabited her character, mannerisms, voice, accent, and personality. I tip my Q hat to her.

And as long as I'm pontificating, how could Star Trek not have been one of the 10 best movies of the year? They really hit all the marks. It's the only movie last year that I found worth watching twice.

This. Meryl Streep was terrific in Julie and Julia. If she doesn't get best actress for her brilliant performance I don't know what will!

And I also agree about Star Trek. That film was very underrated, and it really did hit all of the marks. Even non-Sci Fi fans can enjoy it!

And here are the winners so far:

• Supporting Actor: Christoph Waltz, "Inglourious Basterds."
• Animated Feature Film: "Up."
• Original Song: "The Weary Kind (Theme From Crazy Heart)" from "Crazy Heart," Ryan Bingham and T Bone Burnett.
• Original Screenplay: Mark Boal, "The Hurt Locker."
• Animated Short Film: "Logorama."
• Documentary (short subject): "Music by Prudence."
• Live Action Short Film: "The New Tenants."
• Makeup: "Star Trek."
• Adapted Screenplay: Geoffrey Fletcher, "Precious: Based on the Novel `Push' by Sapphire."
• Supporting Actress: Mo'Nique, "Precious: Based on the Novel 'Push' by Sapphire."
• Sound Editing: The Hurt Locker
• Sound Mixing: The Hurt Locker (wow, we did not see that coming!)
• Foreign Language Film: The Secret in Their Eyes - Argentina
• As much as it sickens me to say this; Best Actress: Sandra Bullock [starts projectile vomiting uncontrollably]

P.S. Doctor Q. surely you can use the multiquote function by now! Tsk! :p

What a disappointment. The real inglorious basterds are the morons at the Academy who wouldn't know what a good movie was if it knocked them on their asses.

So Hurt Locker was the lowest grossing and most overrated movie to win a Best Picture Oscar!

I never even heard of that movie until last week when all of the Oscars talk started.

Inglorious Basterds and District 9 both got screwed thanks to Avatar and The Hurt Locker, the highest grossing and lowest grossing most overrated movies to be nominated.

Umm... I loved the Hurt Locker and figured it would win. Good for Katherine Bigelow. Also, it was good to see Anthony Mackie on stage for it as well. He was in a friend of mine's film a few years ago, and now he's at the Oscars. Good for him.

If you haven't seen The Hurt Locker, how do you know it's overrated?

So... did you watch it in the last few days or are you just basing your opinion that it didn't deserve to win because it didn't make a lot of money?

Nah, I'm taking bobob's word for it ;)

I haven't seen it, maybe it's good, but if he's right, and it's overrated, it joins Avatar which was overrated.

Ah- so you'll take bobob's word for it and not mine? OK. You don't even know if he's seen it.

My opinion was that if it didn't win, there was something wrong with the Academy.

I did watch the trailer a couple days ago and it just didn't interest me, which is why I'm siding with him and not you, no offense. I know you can't always judge a movie by its trailer, and maybe it's really good, but it just did not interest me in the slightest. I know my tastes and I know what I like in a movie and for me, and from what I saw, The Hurt Locker would bore me if I watched it. So maybe it's not overrated, I don't know, I shouldn't have said that. But I will not be watching it.

I generally don't like war movies anyways, they all seem the same to me. Inglorious Basterds was the rare exception

Well, I wonder what a film has to be to be exciting for you. That film was so thick with tension, you could cut it with a knife. I also loved that no politics was brought into it.

Well, I wonder what a film has to be to be exciting for you.

I own both Harold and Kumar movies. I bought the South Park movie on Blu Ray when it came out in 2009 even though I already owned the DVD. Shaun of the Dead is my idea of Best Foreign Film. My personal opinion is that The Hangover should've been nominated and won for Picture of the Year. That's a hint as to what a film has to be to be exciting to me ;)

Action movies like Inglorious Basters and District 9 are good, and I do enjoy watching them, but nothing entertains me more than a comedy that everyone else thinks is crap.

Everyone can have their own opinions, that's why these things tend to be silly. But if you don't even watch the movie and declare it shouldn't be the winner based on the trailer then your opinion is moot. *cough* yg17 *cough*
