I stopped reading after the first line. Not only you had the previous year phone, but you used it as a backup to another flagship phone. I think you have too much money to burn and you clearly buy too many phones. You are in the 0.5% of people companies don't really care about your opinion because phones aren't made to innovate much year after year or to be upgraded so often.

Apple can’t afford to add TouchID to iPhones yet.

Under-screen sensors have only been viable for a few years so would eat into Apple’s profit margin.

Power button sensors would be incompatible with their cases.

The best hope is if Apple decides to make some kind of TouchID MagSafe accessory they could charge €199 for.
Plus they already have Face ID which is more secure and convenient.

Why do people seem to want to go backwards?!

I am a current iPhone 12 Pro owner- having used it as a back up phone for my Galaxy S21 Ultra for a while.
I actually liked everything about the Samsung other than the obvious lack of Apple watch compatibility and not playing nice with Apple devices in general.

I also own the 11” and 12.9” 2021 iPad Pros. Ended up selling the Samsung in the anticipation of a potential upgrade.
As nice as the high refresh rate screen sounds, there is no major reason to consider upgrading- even with the improved cameras and longer battery life. In reality, I should be thanking Apple for not revealing a product that I am compelled to move on to.

Same thing can be said about the S7 Apple Watch...the product that stole the show for me was, without a shadow of a doubt, the redesigned iPad Mini.…

As such, I think I did the right thing in cancelling the upgrade to a 13 Pro Max- anyone else in the same boat?
Lol okay cool, you can do that. It’s just a phone. You put way too much thought into this, particularly for somebody who has a less than year old device.

What a self-important thread.

After countless years, many people still don't get it.

Apple never has and never will do major upgrades yearly. The general pattern is a major upgrade, and then an iterative one.

As some have mentioned, they don't design their product line to be upgraded yearly. I don't think Apple ever expected 12 Pro users to upgrade to the 13 Pro in normal circumstances. It was always aimed for 11 Pro users or XS users previously, etc...

Personally, I upgraded every two years, but for the first time since I bought my first iPhone (iPhone 3G), I waited 3 years before purchasing the 12 Pro (From an 8 Plus).

I don’t see the 12 as a major upgrade from the 11 series. It brought flat sides, big deal!

Personally I think there’s only so much Apple can do to the iPhone now. We’ve practically reached the peak for smartphone innovation (unless you’re into foldable phones - I think they’re a gimmick).

Yeah well said. I feel model 12 series was a weak upgrade (having own the 12 pro). I feel 13 is a way better upgrade with the cameras and ProMotion than the 12. Even though its considered as a S upgrade.

I would have waited—I typically upgrade every other year, but I don’t like the size of the 12 Pro Max enough to keep it that extra year. It’s just too large for me. So I guess I’m more like downgrading to a 13 Pro. If the iPhone 14 loses the notch, then I’ll buy it regardless.

So you ordered it knowing what the device was and then cancelled it later because the updates you were aware of weren't enough to justify it? Seems like a series of events I wouldn't advertise if it was myself.

I'm on the two year upgrade cycle now after getting every main version since the first phone in 2007.

One, it's the lack of year to year 'wow factor'.

Two, it's the fact that these phones now cost as much as my much more able 13" M1 MBP.

Hard to truly justify upgrading just for the sake of upgrading.

You have an iPhone 12 (and moments ago a Galaxy 21 Ultra), along with two iPad pro’s. You don’t need a 13.
That said, why consider upgrading from a 12 to a 13 anyways? It’s only been a year.

probably because he wants to humblebrag to try and convince strangers online that he has lots of money

in reality he’s probably a 15 year old who’s mum lets him borrow an iPhone 7 occasionally if he’s well behaved

Exactly! The only reason I’m upgrading is because I sold my IPhone 12 Max pro for a Galaxy Fold 3 that I returned only because of the software. Headphone features only work on Google apps and nothing else. No volume bar in the Notification Center except for Googles apps etc. this was one for the most laziest New iPhone upgrades in a long time.

It’s not the iPhone 13! It is its leader. My iPhone 13 Pro Max would of had an mini compact Face ID 2nd Gen module so small in fact that it could of fitted into the bezel of the iPhone 13. It’s been 4 years already since the iPhone X released in 2017! Like come on Cook! 120hertz display. Improved redesign speaker system. At least a Punch Hole selfie camera with & image stabilizer 24Mp to kill the competition. 4+ hours of battery life is a must or everyone is Fired. Faster wireless charging. MagSafe USB-C Charger. & a first Gen large Apple Logo on the back of the phone that can just change colors. Next Years will be a full notification screen. & last Touch ID 3rd Gen built into the sleep button. With a State of the art User friendly redesign of iOS only able to run on the New IPhones & furture ones moving forward *requires 8GB of ram or more. Also Folding phones would be top on my list with an All tough Glass Screen water & dust resistant out of the gate with Face ID & the cameras built into the Main screen & outside screen.

I disagree. The camera technology alone from the 11 to the 12 Pro is astonishing better, and I imagine it’ll be another level altogether for the 13 Pro.

That said, I don’t see it as a reason to upgrade.

There are plenty more innovations and improvements to come….

Camera improvements between the 11 and 12 Pro Max were significant and the 13 builds on this. The major upgrade I am personally waiting for is a 10 x optical zoom but I suspect we may have to wait until iPhone 15 / 2023 before Apple implement the telescopic zoom capability.

Yep. 12 pro and 12 max are two different phones. As a max user the 12 max was significant (camera wise). Wife, who uses 11 pro didn’t see much of anything in 12 pro as that didn’t get the cameras of the max.

Forward to now the 13 pro users are getting caught up. This makes for a significant upgrade from 11 or 12 pro.

13 max? That remains to be seen how much an upgrade it is from 12 max. It won’t be as significant as the regular pro users will experience.

I posted this in a similar thread. Apple is not going to reinvent the wheel every year because:

Not doing so retains an iPhone’s value. Adding too many new features each year leaves them with nothing for the following year. You’re able to resell without as much loss. Apple doesn’t want to alienate those who just bought last year.

But the key reason I believe, is production. Apple churned out over 200m iPhone 12’s last year. The logistics and supply chain to get new parts, tooling and manufacturing to make massive change yearly is unrealistic and financially unwise. I think many forget all the heavy lifting that goes into bring a product to market.

That said…you do you. :)

i think what a lot of people forget is that coming from an XS or 11 to the 13 pro is a big upgrade.
intel modem, 6 gig of ram are both major quality of life changes.

Updating from the 12 to 13 is only ever going to be incremental - what "Innovation" are people seeking, a phone that flies you to the moon and back?

Every month I pay a fixed amount for the service and the phone.

Every year Apple Sends me a new Phone under IUP

For no additional cost at the minimum I get:
A different color choice, that isn’t dinged up
Sometimes a memory capacity upgrade
New features in network capacity 3g, 5g, WiFi, Bluetooth
Always a screen, and battery bump.
New features I didn’t know I wanted, but in time will always take for granted
Much better camera / video performance
And a new OS which somehow Always feels worse on older phones.

And for the most part the same price, although I will treat myself to a new case.

If you don’t see value or want more, wait for that self licking ice cream cone 🍦

You are NOT supposed to update every single year anymore.

iPhone tech is very mature and evolves slowly.
All smartphone/tablet tech is not mature. I did not know there was a rule as to whether you were supposed to or not supposed to upgrade every year....

Everyone with an iPhone 12 complaining that the 13 is lackluster, realize that the 13 isn't meant for you. The 14 maybe, but not this one. For those who upgrade anyway, the upgrade contains better battery life, and improved cameras, to be expected.

Great, so would you be willing to pay $3000 for this fantasy phone you describe?
