I'll ask again.... I can't be home on the 21st to receive any packages. So I want to pre-order at my local AT&T corporate store and pick them up later at their store on the evening of the 21st. Any issues with that?

Thank you for mentioning the billing address being correct, i had to make minor adjustments - you rock OP. :D

When I ordered my 4s I had no problem editing my shipping address AFTER the order was placed from the apple store. You couldn't do it when placing the order.

so make sure shipping address and billing address (of AT&T account) are the same, but credit card billing address can be different.

Is that how it goes?

Don't think this is true. Yesterday, I ordered 2 iPhone 4S's from Apple to upgrade 2 family member's non-smartphone lines. I ordered each phone separately and went thru the eligibility step for AT&T. At checkout, with 2 iPhone 4S's on 2 AT&T lines, a big red message appeared at the top telling me something like I couldn't order multiple phones "on contract" at the same time. I removed one from the cart and completed the order. Then processed the 2nd phone/line in a new order. And yes, the 2 iPhone's were not "accidentally" for the same line.

Just an FYI for those ordering multiple iPhone's on contract.

this is bad news. I'll be ordering 2 tonight for the first time ever (gotta get one for my sister, too), and I was hoping to do it in a seamless process.

yes. you actually won't even get to input a shipping address during checkout. It'll default to the one on your ATT account

Maybe through the carrier this would work? If you're on the same plan?

^^This.

I'm in the same boat and not really sure what information i need to get from my father prior to tonight's pre-ordering. I plan on using Apple.com and we are on AT&T Family Plan. Thanks in advance.

I've done some research on other sites and most of the time during the upgrade process you need the last 4 digits of the social security number of the account holder for the wireless carrier, the number you want to use to upgrade, and sometimes if you have an account made online with ATT then the password to that account. Oh and the 5 digit billing zip code. That's what I read though and I really hope thats all you need!

That is correct. You won't need anything more than the SSN and billing zip code (aside from a credit/debit card for payment that is). But again, make sure you have your billing address of your ATT account set to the address you'd like the phone delivered to.

I've included WDE87 in the quote so they'll get a notification

Go to Apple Store either on your device or computer and you're able to change shipping address. My billing address and shipping address are now different.

I called my VISA department and had them change my billing address to the address I'm having the new iPhone shipped to. When I get it I'll change it back.

Are we going to have to select a new "plan" and data add-ons, etc. during this process? That info might be helpful as well. Thanks guys.

I'm using a friends upgrade to get the iPhone 5 so I changed the account billing address to my shipping address. I plan on receiving the phone and just calling Verizon and activating it on my account, but my question is, will anything happen to my friends account because he has a dumb phone? It's probably going to require that I select a data package for my friends number, but the phone will never be activated on his account so do I even need to worry about that? Any help is appreciated.

just a small note for people that aren't aware.. you don't have to be home during delivery next Friday. You can print and sign a release form to leave for fedex and they will leave the package at your door. I usually tell them to leave it at my back door so it's not out in the open.

FYI, if you are on Verizon and you try to buy a phone on Apple's website or Verizon's website you will be forced to drop your Unlimited data plan even if you are paying full price. You have zero option to keep your existing data plan. Don't believe me? Go try both of those websites right now and go through the process of buying any phone, you will not be able to keep your data plan.

So after all of this pre-ordering business, let's say we get the phone delivered to our homes. We still have to take the phone to an At&T phone to have new nano sim card installed??

I believe the nano sim will be included with the iPhone 5. Just boot up the phone and follow the process to activate.

Haven't read a question regarding this matter yet. So anybody got a tip for which browser would be good to use while shopping online? Firefox? Chrome? Safari? (do I dare say it....... Internet Explorer?! <---- lol)

you'll be asked what you'd like to select. They will try to force you to move away from unlimited data, but, at least on ATT's site, they offer the unlimited plan much further down the page. I'd assume apple's would be the same but I'm not sure

I did this with the new iPad. FedEx took the note but did not leave the package.

For Verizon you can't keep your unlimited plan when ordering online. So you are lucky with AT&T. Yes this means you can't keep it even if you pay full price for the phone.

I don't normally use Safari but I will for the pre ordering.
Might not do anything but maybe it will be faster on Apple's own site.

If you can get to an apple store, go there tomorrow and buy an iPhone gift card. When you purchase the phone online, pay with the gift card and then you should be able to have it shipped wherever you desire. That's what I plan to do. When you order the phone, it will verify your carrier account with your social security number and zip code. I can't believe they'll make you have it shipped to the carrier billing address. I don't think apple will even be able to access the carrier billing address.

Can you buy gift card online now? It's a little too late for me to buy gift card now. Hahaah

Where did this info come from? Did you ask several Verizon reps?
