The MacBook Pro Retina will include the Iris Pro 5200 graphics which will ship in Q3 2013. It has been launched but won't be available till then, according to Intels website.

Secondly, the low display yield rates indicate Apple is going to switch to IGZO panels in the upcoming refresh. The production of these panels just startet, therefore the supply is not really high enough for a new rMBP just yet.

Combining the new display tech and the new Haswell chips, Apple will be able to reduce the power requirements and the heat substantially, resulting in the ability to make the body of the machine even slimmer.

Are you quoting something? Source?

I suspected the IGZO panel myself with the rumor of the display production bottlenecks, but I'm not sure why they'd opt for the Iris Pro when the 15 ships with discrete graphics. Maybe they're waiting on the Iris Pro for the 13 and just holding the release of the 15 so they can release them simultaneously?

the Retina MacBook Pro would ship later due to production bottlenecks on the advanced displays.

Why are they still having production bottlenecks a year after this product first launched? I've read some really damning online reviews of the MBP-R. This product seems to have one problem after the next. I sincerely hope they fix it as I'm itching to get the 15" model if they lower the price a bit.

Doesn't sound like we're going to get a retina screen on the updated MBA which was the only reason I was looking to upgrade. Sugar.

At this rate I won't be buying any Mac products at all this year, unless the new Mac Pro is a real cracker.

Longer battery life and dual microphones... are you kidding me? If this is the highligh of the hardware update, it is pathetic.

While I agree that they should be doing more, there really isn't much to improve on, besides a better screen and putting in Haswell. The MBA 13inch already has good battery life. One of the best out there.

They already have the best trackpad/keyboard combo in the business. I have not used a single windows laptop that is as good or comfortable to use.

And I really want a better display in the MBA, but it's tough getting enough components. With the rMBP, we all know the problems they faced with the LG screens. The Samsung ones are better. Same with the current MBA. The Sammy screen is superior. With their shaky relationship, I'm not sure Apple can just be like "make us more, hurry up"

As mentioned above, Apple has to wait for certain components becoming available. The additional waiting time will result in a substantially better product.

That the three other SKUs belong to Airport products has been mentioned by me two days ago.

This waiting game may work for you, but it doesn't work for me. Let me explain why.

I live in Brazil, and the 13" rMBP costs US$ 3,000-US$ 3,500 here. I'll be in NY next week, and I'll have the chance to buy a 13" rMBP for US$ 1,500-US$ 1,700 or even less. If Apple releases the Haswell version during WWDC, then I'll buy it for the price it is sold in the US. However, if it doesn't, I get stuck with two possibilities: (i) buy the Ivy Bridge version for US$ 1,500-US$ 1,700 while I'm in the US; or (ii) buy the Haswell version whenever it is released, for US$ 3,000-US$ 3,500, or whatever the price Apple chooses to charge for it here in Brazil.

Either way I'll feel bad. I'll get either an outdated laptop or an overpriced one. I don't know which is worse. That's why it's a disaster. For me, at least.

Not really. They just updated them three months ago...

Yes, it is. Haswell will have a better battery life and a better video card. Hard to buy an expensive laptop like this and know that is processor is already outdated...

No screen updates for the MBAs make it look like Apple has lost the leading edge in the ultraportable market.

Pessimistic, aren't we?

An optimist would say, better battery life, dual microphones, faster chips, faster wifi. Good. Looking forward to what else comes next week.

Too many pessimists on this board.

Let them know periodically that there is a market. They're money driven.

Until they offer the ability to run legacy software they won't get my upgrade dollars ....

They don't want your money. It would cost them way too much.

eBay (et.al.) is now your self chosen computer provider. Not Apple.

The only reason for production bottlenecks on the retina screens would be if they're switching manufacturers and/or screen technologies.

The likely candidate would be to switch to Sharp's new IGZO displays which allow high pixel densities without as much power draw.

They didn't update anything three months ago. All they did was change the configurations and pricing on the higher priced models to make them more appealing to potential buyers. Nothing else changed. The processors remained the same, etc. I think it was an attempt to buy a little time, boost sales and clear out their inventories ahead of this impending update. I don't know maybe they were trying to get rid of those crappy LG screens they've been using before switching to Sharp IGZO panels. Let's hope so.

If you wanted a retina display on your laptop, you wouldn't be saying that.

Let's hope so. Seems like we've been waiting forever for these IGZO screens. I hope they are good as we all hope. If they fix all the other issues at the same time and lower the price a bit I would jump at one of these machines. Fingers crossed.

They would have to go with the Iris Pro because the IGZO panels have even more pixels, therefore need substantially more GPU power. That includes the integrated GPU which is also being used for saving battery life.

IGZO not available in quantity, Iris Pro not available: No launch at WWDC. It's as easy as that.
IGZO panels are manufactured in 15.6" compared to 15.4" on the current retina MBP. IGZO allows for a substantially thinner display design. Apple can make the rMBP thinner and make the bezels around the display smaller because the 15.6" display is bigger and they need less backlighting.

Would they adopt IGZO displays? I don't think there's a source for these news... not even the iPhone has adopted IGZO displays yet.

The perfect Macbook Pro to me is the standard one, but with a 500+64GB Fusion drive, 4GB RAM (user-upgradeable to 16GB) and an IPS, 1600x1200, 13" display.

Pretty nice and probably more affordable than the luxury retina one.

The current low-end retina 13" is a joke. Its 128GB storage makes it look more like a toy than a Pro laptop.

It says that the displays are not available in suitable amounts. Which is very strange considering Apple has had a lot of time to manufacture a lot of LCD displays. LCD displays are available in great quantity.
IGZO on the other hand just startet mass production at sharp, perfectly aligning the rumor that the display of the new rMBP is not really available for a all out launch.

There is your IGZO rumor!

The rumor sites are doing a extremely BAD JOB at combining all the rumors to a big picture!

Thing is Samsung just invested a shed load of money in Sharp to keep them going so even if we get Sharp screens Samsung will still benefit in the long run.

I know this won't be a popular thing to say but you have to wonder whether or not this whole Apple versus Samsung legal battle is worth it. It seems like every week Apple wins somewhere and then the next week Samsung wins somewhere. I've lost track as to who is winning this battle now. In the end I suspect that neither side will deliver a knockout blow and the only winners will be lawyers who must be raking it in. Frankly I don't care who is right and who is wrong, I just want the best possible components in the Apple products I pay good money for.

I've seen the news. But nothing connects these news to MacBooks, except for mere speculations.

The screens all follow a 16:9 ratio, and not the 16:10 used on MacBooks. They wouldn't be suitable for the current form factor, which has been released last year and won't receive an update in the following years. Apple won't use these particular screens on the MacBook Pro.

There are in fact rumors by KGI (very reliable!) of an impending redesign of the Retina MacBook Pros which could include the 16:9 form factor!
The power savings are substantial and hard to ignore by Apple.

Yes, you are right, I am a pessimist. I want a better screen on the 11" MBA. They have the same screen now as they did in 2010 when I purchased my current model.

I will wait yet another year hoping for a better screen in 2014. I would gladly pay $2500 for a new 11" MBA with a stellar display. I know I'm in the minority in that regard.

I've not seen rumors of a redesigned retina MacBook Pro. I've seen Kuo, from KGI, predicting that the 13" rMBPs could get slightly thinner, but that's just probably to match the thinness of the 15" rMBP (the current 13" rMBP is .75" thick, while the 15" rMBP is .71"). I've not seen any other predictions. Which are they?

That's a very good point. Sharp should become a larger supplier to Apple.

I'm with you on this. This legal drama only benefits the lawyers, that's it. Samsung and Apple need to suck it up. Apple is one of their largest buyers. Apple needs to realize they shouldn't screw up their relationship with them. They make the best quality displays and components out there.

What are you talking about? Iris pro was launched this week according to Anandtech:

"The i7-4950HQ and i7-4850HQ are the only two Iris Pro 5200 parts launching today. A slower 2GHz i7-4750HQ will follow sometime in Q3."

Got a buyer for my 2012 13" MacBook Pro, so I'm hoping an updated version is released and I haven't lost a bit of money! Looking forward to working with higher resolutions to be honest!
