Folks never seem to want to remember Oprah is the person who mainstreamed nonsense such as "The Secret" and Dr. Oz... that crap makes climate change deniers look like theoretical physicists ...

I guess next Apple will tell you if you want a up-to-date MacBook Pro with a great keyboard just visualize the Universe giving it to you and VOILA...

It is.great shows always have politics, sex, violence or a combination of the above. If you remove all the above you’ll end up with some thing that’s might appeal young children but will probably bore adults to death.
Well see you're doing what I see so many people are doing these days, which is assuming that which applies to them applies to everyone else. When that mindset becomes prevalent we end up with people whose wants and needs are marginalized and trivialized. Just because an adult wants escape from the neverending bombardment of politics, sex, violence doesn't mean they have the mentality and preferences of children. There are movies and books for adults that tackle thought provoking subject matter without going into horrific details designed to shock the senses.

It was mostly adults, as I recall, who were fans of shows like "Touched by an Angel" and "Highway to Heaven". Yes, I'm in my 50's and miss an era when that sort of programming was more prevalent.

I did like action adventure and gory horror movies when I was in my late teens and 20's. As I got older and met real people or became aware of the real stories of family members who survived rape, torture, or saw someone mutilated or murdered (there are a lot of war refugees in my family) I began to question why I sought out watching depictions of suffering and violence as entertainment. Why would someone's horror and suffering entertain or distract or edify me in any way. I realized it didn't. It was a waste of my time.

At the age I am now, I am just sick of it all.

As for sex, seen it once, seen it a hundred times. Zzzzz. I put up with it in some shows. It is sort of like golf, rather be playing than watching.

I do still like action adventure. Oddly enough there's nothing terribly graphic about action adventure movies. Stuff blows up and stunt men go flying, but it's all very cartoonish.

Those are my preferences. I am glad I may have the opportunity to see more of the kind of programs I prefer instead of having to watch old reruns for the rest of my life.

I respect that others have different preferences and am glad there seems to be no shortage of gritty edgy programs for them. I don't begrudge or disrespect anyone for their preferences and hope they don't begrudge me mine.

Oprah, no thanks, although i am slightly interested on the mental health piece seeing I have been working in the field for over 20 years.... I'm sure it will be butchered tho.

Dr. Oz is nothing but a snake oil salesman....

It seems, mental health is all the rage in 2019- cancer awareness is out of the mainstream spotlight, let’s see, what will knock this one from throne in 5-8 years. I will therefore protect my mental health by avoiding lectures from old people celebrities on currently trending mainstream topics. Like, what credibility do these two randos have when it comes to this topic? Why would I listen to prince (?) and a chick, that adverised spanx and kitchen knifes. Wtf, it really, REALLY seems, that some one from Apple just Googled “Top 10 celebreties” and then called, asking if they will do some random TV special...

I can already watch wholesome and non-offensive shows on PBS for free with an antenna. It’s not a bad idea to offer this type of programming, but if it’s your only programming I wouldn’t expect much success.

Watching this show about mental health would probably seriously hurt my mental health.

Without wanting to get too OT, the state of mental health care is quite depressing I agree.

Despite getting more and more funding all the time all the mental health measures seem to continue to deteriorate. If the health system was a corporation the CEO would be fired. Perhaps that’s a bit unfair because the extra funding has moderated the deterioration.

I believe socioeconomic factors are a big contributor, though that’s not to say there aren’t depressed rich people. It’s a tough one.

...then writes an essay imposing her grumpy views on everyone else.
Lol! Well this is a discussion forum. I'm discussing. And I am not imposing my views. Just discussing them. Just saying there are such things as adults who like mild programming, for lack of a better term. I'm not lobbying Congress to make you watch everything I want to watch.

But this is not the first time I've expressed an opinion on my viewing preferences and been met with extreme hostility for having those preferences. So I'm wondering who is imposing their views on whom.

You're detailing your viewing habits as if it's something we should all aspire to. You might be fed up with realistic (aka fake) violence. Fine. Accept that others aren't. Violence has been on film for over 100 years. Happy for you not to watch it.

I’m used to see nudity, bad mouthing and violence from our Dutch shows and movies. Some are actually quite good and entertaining. Does Apple also offers something in this category or are they targeting kids and elderly with their shows?

Anyone seen a “must see” yet on Appletv+? I’m asking because it hasn’t been offered over here yet and I’m curious if it will be a Netflix contender.

I just can’t see apple making a TV show I want to watch.

Would they have made Breaking Bad? Too much drugs and violence. Game of Thrones? Too much death and nudity. Handmaid’s Tale? Too political I’d guess.

Everything I’ve seen so far just looks so wholesome and inoffensive.

For all you folks who worry that you won't have enough graphic violence, sex and nudity on Apple's original content to stimulate your interest in watching it, rest easy and rest assured that all of that and more are only a click away on the web where you can submerse yourself in it to your heart's content.

Meh ...

I'd rather see these two in a WELL historical documentary of how the British historically tried to help eradicate civilizations and cultures and a people most personal to Oprah and myself. Now THAT is the kind of content I'd like Apple to really push out and challenge the status quo. I'm just one person of a single mind.

Not sure how a wealthy, happily married (to a cool and beautiful woman) and new father, with the absolute control over any environment he's in ... as a Prince is really suffering mental illness?!

A documentary about mental health, produced by two people foremost among those who live in an alternate reality—economically, socially, vocationally and otherwise—compared to the majority of those currently occupying planet Earth.

One might even say that the self-importance and self-grandeur these two regularly exhibit, supported in large measure by the media and many of their adoring fans, is itself a form of mental illness.

EDIT: I should add that I sympathize with the struggles caused by Harry's mother's death, but even that event, its causes and aftermath, can't be separated from the alternate reality I'm talking about.

No, I question your reading comprehension while angry if that's what you think I've done. Did you not see the part where I said I respect that others feel differently? I have family members who feel differently. We all get along.

Of course I accept that others have other preferences. I was responding to a point of view that as I read it, seemed to state that programming without those elements was only going to appeal to children. I was saying no, that's a narrow way of looking at it, as I'm not a child and here's why that kind of mild programming appeals to me. If I came across grumpy it's because it's for very sad personal reasons that I arrived at this point. I do get very "stricken" when I recall the real life stories I heard.

Now Highway to Heaven actually doesn't help make my point. That was a very saccharine show that even I didn't watch very often. Something like the 1998 mini series From the Earth to the Moon might have made my case better. As I recall it was well done and appealing to adults but fit in with program standards for that era.

Anyway, you call ME grumpy...sheesh, you put me to shame. I have to hand over my grumpy crown to you.
