Oh the joy. Years after the appearance of the first pro called device and people are still struggling with the fact that it’s just a marketing name?

They can anything Pro as long as there is no definition for these three letters. But the desired effect was achieved, people start to discuss the product all over again, so good job Apple marketing.

Apple do not give a monkeys calloused arseh*le about people debating the Pro moniker on forums.

They care that millions of people get blindsided by it and buy the Pro regardless of the fact it's not a professional tool.

Everyone knows it's a marketing trick. All advertising is. But sometimes people feel companies cross the line and pull off a stunt to cover a lacklustre release. Clearly many people feel that this is one of those times.

It doesn't make you a marketing savant to point out that it's marketing. A 12 year old knows that and so do the people complaining.

I am stating what should have been obvious but apparently isn’t.
There is no definition for pro and to come up with some lines fetched from thin air like the OP doesn’t make it a reality. It in return though reveals that the OP has not fully grasped that it’s just marketing, and that even after 13 years of MacBook Pros and about four years of iPad Pro marketing.
Welcome to the Apple world, glad you came out from under that rock.

A pro machine cannot have 64 gb of storage.

A pro machine cannot have 4 gb of ram.

A pro machine cannot have a lightning port.

iPhone Pro = iPhone Deluxe.

They should stop calling it the iPhone Pro(fessional).
But Apple never said pro in iPhone Po stood for professional.

A pro machine cannot have more computing power than NASA and more capability than the entire Radio Shack catalog a few years back? Thank you, spoiled Millennial. I remember when a professional phone was one with a second line so you could switch between two callers and a speaker option.

I think a lot of pitch for it being pro is based on the video capabilities. Obviously industry leading CPU and AI capability is up there for being “Pro” as well. The question that went through my mind during the keynote, were the videos we saw all shot with the iPhone pro? If so then that would be impressive.

Maybe they'll flip it the other way next update, and make the two high[er] end phones just iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Max and name the lower end phone ...

The "PRO" branding and MIDNIGHT GREEN will suck people into buying the 11 Pro. It's all Marketing. But you're right, the 11 Pro is not Pro when you compare the MBP to MBA and MB. It's all marketing and most will buy regardless of its lack of PRO features.

You underestimate the fact that, in the hands of a professional photographer or videographer, these devices can yield 100% professional content. I assure you there are many pros out there who often incorporate iPhone-produced content with the rest of the material they shoot on gear that costs tens of thousands of dollars. And it almost always goes unnoticed by their clients. As long as these devices have the ability to produce pro content, there's no reason to have issue with the Pro naming.

Camera snobs are funny. There are people who love pro-level DSLRs and cheap plastic Holgas and homemade pinhole cameras and homemade pinhole cameras but look down their noses at anything in between.

Yes it can. I’m not saying that this is a “pro” phone but if it had 1tb storage, 16gb ram and usb-c I’d say that the OS is the limiting factor. There are no pro features in the hardware. You need more than hardware in my opinion to be pro.

No, you're just stating the obvious. And repeating it incessantly.

Everyone understands marketing, but it seems you don't understand nuance.

It's just marketing. Phil Schiller said it at the event. "It's a device that pros can count on to get their work done, but it's also a product for all of us who want simply the best product made, even if we're not a pro."

It's also to clean up and align the product lines. Base -> Better Performance

Tablet: iPad -> iPad Air - iPad Pro

Phone: iPhone 11 -> iPhone 11 Pro

Laptops: MacBook Air -> MacBook Pro

All in One: iMac -> iMac Pro

Workstation: Mac Pro

Small Form Factor: Mac Mini, iPad Mini

It's not that hard, folks.

When Phil started calling everything related to the iPhone Pro (especially the battery) pro I started to not take it seriously anymore.

Oddly enough, I’m an insurance ‘professional’ and I use an iPhone, IPad ‘Pro’ and MacBook Pro. I never thought that the name of the device is what qualified the products to be useful to me. I’m glad I’ve been informed.

After watching the keynote a second time, I think this is right. Phil as much as comes out and says it near the end - it's the camera(s) that they're saying are the "pro" feature.

I beg to differ. The OP clearly doesn’t understand. As is demonstrated in the entry post.

Moving on.

True, haha. "Pro design" made me shake my head a bit. Because amateur or intermediate design would be acceptable from Apple of course.

Good point, the Pro Name at least is consistent in the product lines.

You are taking marketing bs way too seriously. Take a break and ignore the “true definition” of “pro” moniker.
And, Apple is hands down the best marketing company in the world, period. Just FYI.
Marketing is essentially a career when people can legally spread lies, after all.

So Apple is full of the finest professional liars? Can’t argue with that!

Nope, that's just you stirring on the internet and making ridiculous assertions like the OP doesn't know 'what marketing is'.

Of course he knows.
