The time is nearing us to tell the truth.

But it looks like new Macbook Pro will find its way into the market

at least one month after the now-nearly-authorized-fact 3G iPhone... two major products

on the same day will cancel out the aura of either of them.

Remember the long-anticipated Mac Pro, one week before MacBook Air's MWSF08 introduction? Maybe Apple might pull something out their hat and have new MBPs ready for June 3 (a Tuesday, no less!).

Wishful thinking, I know...

jjahshik32- i have no clue what is going on with paypal, they have been stonewalling me for over a month. I am actually planning on legal action as soon as i get out of school. Waiting for this money has caused me so much time, effort, and money that I am going to seek legal action, at least to get the money if not more. What happened was that for some reason they unverified my account(without warning), then they refused to verify me over 4 different occasions, even with official documentation. Doesnt sound kosher to me at least, so im really gonna go for the throat.

Just to ponder, what generation mac pro did you sell?

I've sold the 2.8 8 core penryn mac pro the newest model. I was lucky enough that the buyer was a photographer and he even showed me his website and looked very nice and professional. I'm so glad to get the $4.5k back into the bank!

The one thing that scares me when buyers use paypal is when they pay you with a credit card and especially a amex credit card. Because if they decide that they want a refund from the credit card companies they will get the credit back from the credit card companies and the buyer gets their $$ back and they usually send the item back to paypal and paypal actually holds it until you reimburse the paypal! This is how people actually lose their item and have to pay the full amount to get your item back!

Anyways this almost happened to my younger brother from selling a thinkpad and the buyer told him that he will get his refund back from his credit card company and send the laptop back to paypal to hold onto just because my brother didnt include a copy of windows vista disc where he mentioned that it would be installed with vista but no mention of a disc. So my brother just bought a copy of vista and shipped it to the guy to make him happy.

Anyways this is one of the reason that I hate to resale laptops on ebay but so far everything I've sold, I've delt with nice people and they all actually paid with instant payment and not with a credit card.

I put my Mac Pro on sale at eBay as "collect only" but for some reason you were forced to list paypal as an option. When the buyer tried paying that way I was appalled that on top of final value fee, paypal would charge over £50 just for me to RECEIVE the money, and then I wouldn't be able to withdraw it all! A £650 limit per YEAR? What good is that to me when I'm selling a product worth twice that?

I had to refuse the payment and we worked out another arrangement; luckily I had an understanding buyer. To use eBay and Paypal would cost me almost £100 of a £1500 auction, and then over half of that amount would be floating around in Paypal's hands for ... a year? Screw that. I consider paypal unacceptable, for sellers at the very least... its rates and withdrawal restrictions are a joke!

There is a way to unlock that amount of $$ that you can withdrawl. When I first signed up with paypal and before being verified I was only limited to $500 usd to be withdrawn. Now my limit is up to $5000. I think all you have to do is verify with your bank account or something like that for the unlock. I think paypal deposits to your bank account something like .05 cents and .01 cents or something random but it was 2 very very small deposits and you just verify the amount and your instantly verified. I forgot about the unlocking though but I remember at first it was $500 and now I'm up to $5000 or I forgot if it was $10,000.

I do agree and wish there was another method of payment but I guess when using paypal and when the buyer does use instant payment it does feel good to feel somewhat secure.

Dont forget though that when you list an item on ebay especially what I did with the mac pro that I sold, I've listed it an extra $130-$150 over to compensate for the fees and of course the separate fee for the shipping as well.

Good plan, I just put it up for best offer. It sold for about £200 less than I'd anticipated... so the extra restrictions were no good. I was waiting for the "verification" but here in the UK it's a "bank holiday" which no doubt has slowed everything down.

I'm looking to buy a MBP tomorrow so I needed a payment method that was a little more imperative ;)

Why are so many people selling their Mac Pro for a MBP?

I'll tell you why. No iSight or IR sensor in this day and age is plain unnacceptable.

:p But, really, I just couldn't budget for two machines. At the time of purchase (January) there was no sign of a MBP at Macworld so I opted for the Mac Pro's 8-core standard "new blood" offering instead.

Having moved from a lowly MacBook (which I've since donated to a family member) and generally being floored at what Mac Pro offers, after purchase I had several moments where I've just thought "dang" because I only had a home system at a moment when I needed portability.

In an ideal world I'd have a Mac Pro+Dell 3008 and MBA, but I've compromised and opted for the MBP alone.

Similar to my reasons. Since I already own a 23" ACD I loved it paired with the mac pro BUT I noticed that I didnt use more than 5%-8% of its core power + I dont game much at all.

And most of the time the mbp was just sitting there which could easily do everything I'd want to do and more so in the end I didnt want to waste money and sold the mac pro kept the $$ and loving the use of the mbp.

Its cool to own many toys but I like having 1 main machine.

that's interesting........do either of you use your computer in a professional way (to make money) or is the computer used for personal use........

I have a 1st generation 17" MBP w/ a 30" ACD that I use in my architectural practice........I was thinking about upgrading to a Mac Pro, because with a lot of programs open there seem to be a lag.......

do you think the newer MBP are that much more powerful than the 1st generation?

cheers

Mac Pro was an extravagance for me... as a CS3 user / light gamer I could easily get by on a lesser machine - I just liked the opportunity for expansion not present in other Apple machines. Its interior and exterior design is brilliant - installing more HDs or RAM is ridiculously simple.

Mac Pro is an amazing number-cruncher, if you use lots of processor intensive software you'll definitely appreciate the overall productivity gains.

I'm sure you'd notice a difference between your 1.83 - 2.16GHz Core Duo MBP and the newest (4th gen) 2.4 - 2.6GHz Penryn Core 2 Duo MBPs, too.

thnx JNC for your thoughts.......the documentation I can find only shows about a 30% improvement in speed from the 1st generation to the 4th generations MBP. Does that sound about right to you?

I sold my Mac Pro and i'm waiting until Mid June for a MBP. Reason why.....

I do 95% of my gaming on the Xbox 360 and didn't require all that process power.

The most strain i put on the machine is Handbrake and web design. Also the fact of having portability was too appealing, otherwise would have gone with iMac.

Al Macbook cases = 13.3" MacBook Pro????

I have read the rumors and now possible confirmation from a supplier that future Macbooks will have an Aluminum case. I wonder if Apple would take this opportunity to create a smaller, lighter MacBook Pro instead of just switching the case material. Or maybe Apple would do both, so you could finally get a compact machine with dedicated graphics like the old Powerbook 12"?

I have had two refurb 15" MBP develop problems and have returned both. I am now on the fence like others if I wait for the expected MB/MBP case refresh and/or a 13.3" MBP to appear post-WWDC.

I am praying...

...that :apple: makes a 12/13 inch full spec MBP that does not compromise features like the MBA...

How much do you expect that would cost? A full MBP costs $1999 and the MBA costs $1799. So where exactly does a 13" MBP fit in that lineup considering premiums for performance AND portability?

It would have to cost MORE than a 15 inch MBP, which makes no sense, or the prices would all need to be rethought.

There is the $1899 slot available :D, besides, if the macbooks go aluminum as is the hot rumor, then I believe it will just be a matter of timing before a full fledged 13 inch MBP spec model is made available.:)

There's... no... way Apple would blur product lines quite so far as to have a MacBook Air, Aluminium MacBook AND a 13", 15" and 17" MacBook Pro.

If anything, Aluminium MacBook / 13" MacBook Pro would be the SAME product.

BlackBook specs with an alu enclosure, illum keyboard, LED, multitouch, matte screen option and perhaps a 128MB GPU. At best. No way would I hold my breath for that though...

Also, Apple proudly advertising MacBooks having

- doesn't lend credence to the aluminium rumours.

what else would they say? "the macbook has a crappy plastic shell that is prone to cracking"? i think not...

Interesting...

You know what I find very interesting? Where I live, all the different Apple Authorized Resellers have promos in which they give you free softwares and gifts after you buy a cheaper priced MacBook Pro. Well for all of them, the promo ends in 9th June. Is this a coincidence or not, because the Apple Worldwide Developers Conference starts in the 9th of June. Verdict?
