Am I being stupid but doesnt the lowest, leftmost setting for haptic actually turn it off??

Unless mine is broken, yes the left most setting on the haptic turns it off. Or it puts it into a mode that only super humans can feel.

Same here. Just that from posts I've read there is an implication that the settings for haptic and brightness are more granular than I can see.

For brightness I have Low, Medium and High
For haptic I have Low (off), Medium and High

Plus the option for prominent

You can't select in between the above, like you can for sound.

You are correct. There is a slider, but you can only select the pre-adjust values which is basically low(off), medium, and high.

I had prominent haptic on for a while, then I turned it off. So far, I prefer it off, but if I start missing too many work notification, Prominent Haptic will go back on.

When haptic is low on my watch, I get a click but it is very faint.

Do you mean when you adjust the slider in settings?

I get this if I've turned the volume down using the touch screen, but if I turn it down with the crown, then adjust the haptic setting, then the left most setting does nothing.

I don't feel that there's a lot of difference between the middle and the top setting when testing in the settings app.

Wanted to test the strength of the haptics earlier, so I called my phone a few times. Noticed that the haptics are fairly strong, until I turn my wrist. On further testing*, it seems that the the tap is strong until the screen is activated, then it gets weaker. I'm guessing that's by design.

*I held my wrist so the watch was facing up, then called it. The taps were strong until I touched the watch to bring the screen on. Once the screen was on, the next set of taps were weaker.

I have prominent turned on. I miss it most times otherwise. I have haptics strength at max but I barely feel it. However when I make the adjustment in settings and move it between low and high I do feel the difference. I may try a reset to see if that fixes it. Anyone else see where the strength in the settings screen doesn't match the actual haptic when a notification comes in?

I'm not sure if mine is broken or not. I feel it but I also seem to miss you things especially is I'm going something with the arm my watch is on. I'm I'm just sitting there it's a little better. Hopefully a software update will make it a little stronger.

I share your experience. I did reset mine and it is still the same, barely feel the tap even on full strength.

Im actually having a hard time feeling the taptic. I tried all the settings low middle. Sometimes I get notified and the taptic doesn't work even though the notification comes in. I sent myself a message to test and sometimes works and sometimes does not. My watch was manufactured week 16, I hope it does't have a faulty taptic in it. I wish they used the motors to vibrate like in the iphone, maybe to big...Anyone else having problems with taptic to soft or not working consistently?

Me too. I turned the ding sound on because I wasn't sure whether I was just failing to notice many of the taps, but sometimes I get the ding and no tap, and other times, I get the ding and the tap for the same type of message. So I'm starting to become sure it's either a bug or hardware fault.

I did a hard reset just to see if that would help and it didn't. I don't feel like going through the hassle of setting up apple pay again so I'm going to live with using the prominent for the next few months until replacement stock becomes available in the store.

I agree, it could be stronger in normal mode and then it would not be missed.

It's highly likely that Apple will correct this with the upcoming second gen watch.

Since they can do a prominent haptic already, I think they'd be able to tweak this with a software update.

I agree it's pretty faint. Easy to feel sitting in a meeting, but when moving around not so easy. I do think I will get used to feeling it with time. (with more time I will probably get phantom taps to match the phantom vibration I get from my iPhone )

Just to see if I had a weaker than average engine I dropped by the Apple store for the try-on experience. Haptics on the ones I tried on were about the same.

Prominent haptic off
Haptic High
Brightness on low.

I can got from 6:60am till 11:30pm including a 45 min run and still be 55% left

I find myself keep switching the prominent haptic on and off.

When I am in the office I like it off. I get too much emails and messages and find the prominent haptic annoying.

But when I am doing activity, I don't notice the haptic when prominent is off. And I miss my notification.

I wish there's a happy middle, but I haven't find that setting yet.
