Looks like white is popular.
It is probable because many of you watching this forum already have an iPad.
But first time buyers, like me, going to buy a black one.

I am a first time buyer of an ipad and I will be buying a white one. I hate black on all the devices lately! Oh and I am a woman and love the white model :) To each their own...

White just doesn't look good to me and it says cheap. That's just me and my weird feelings toward white though.

You don't really see the screen when off on a black, it looks like a monolith and is just beautiful. The white always looks like a computer monitor to me.

You know, all this time since the announcement I've been planning on buying a white iPad (even though I'm a guy), but I think this thread may be changing my mind.

Pragmatically, the black is probably the better decision. Better perceived contrast, etc.

There's something pleasantly clean and minimal about the white look, though. I'd probably have to see them in person to make an actual choice.

This. I am still debating whether I will be going into the store on Friday or not. But the white is just so clean and simple, IMO.
If I order online, I'll order white. If I go to the Apple store on Friday...who knows. :)

I'm male, very professional, not childish or a poser: I just like the way the white iPad looks, and for me, it's time for something different (I have the orginal iPad and my last two iPhones have been black).

Personally I really dislike the white, the black looks so much more sleek.

I think the white might appeal more to women and posers. (no offence intended)

Funny you say this. When I showed my fiancee' the keynote - she, whom has never had any interest in the iPad, said she wouldnt mind one if its white.

Photos will look FAR better with a black bezel, without a doubt.

Colours will 'pop' with the muted black bezel, as opposed to the in your face white one.

Amazed people are actually considering getting a white iPad because of 'fingerprints'

I'm getting a white cause I think it looks great and I've wanted a white iPhone 4 since they were announced and could never get one. I like how it Looks different. I've been using idevices since 07 so im ready for something to look a little different.
This.
Plus, I don't need to convince myself that the white looks good, it looks good instantly, IMO. YMMV.

I honestly don't think the color matters that much besides some psychological perceptions (like the guy who thinks white is for women and posers). I've never had a problem switching between a black macbook and a white macbook (which I do often). Colors don't pop any more or less and the white bezel never distracts me. The only difference between the macbooks was the material of the black and white, but it'll be the same glass+alu for the iPads so I think both white and black iPads will offer the same experience.

Man, I was totally settled and happy with white until now... :( I'm a guy and not worried about what the perception of a man with a white iPad will be. I'm really only concerned about what someone said about the screen looking less vibrant and the colors not looking as good with the white bezel... Is this really the case? I also agree with what someone said about wanting something different. I had the original iPad and I think the white is a nice change from the black bezel...

It's a psychological effect; some people notice it more than others. Just do a side-by-side and you'll know if it bothers you or not.

Don't get the advantage of the white one regarding fingerprints... most of the screen will be black (if it's off)/the same like the black one anyway.
The white bezel will let the screen appear to be smaller. The device shows a black (switched off) Screen most of the time. The black one will look like one black piece of glass, the white one will look like a smaller black screen with a white bezel. That's why I never liked the white iPhone. But the iPhone got also a white back, so it looked quite different while both iPads will look 95% the same (aluminum body + most of the screen black).

Bright colours of a photo will pop out at you far more if the image is surrounded by an absence of light (ie. black). A white bezel will just assault your eyes and distract you, whilst making the colours of the image appear less vibrant.

Why do you think tv's and broadcasts either have a black surrounding edge or black bands on the top and bottom, and not white?

what about for reading, is the black or white better for reading?

The impression I get is that a black border makes whites appear whiter (and colors pop), while a white border makes darks appear darker. Basically, by having something true white or true black to compare the screen against, it's made more obvious where the image is falling short.

I'm glad most people are swaying from white to black, it just means there might be some white iPads left over for me.

I'm a guy and proud I want a white iPad, and an iPhone too but we all know that isn't happening yet.

Every time I watch the Apple promo videos of the new iPad, I can't help but love the white iPad. It looks very sleek and I don't see how it will make me perceive the screen to be smaller.

I'm getting the white one. I think it will look great with the pink cover I'm getting. :)

I have a black iPhone, and tend to lean toward black products, however I did recently get a white Kindle and love it so I will go with white on the iPad.
