I think the S3 design is dead.

The S4 will be the low end model with no AOD starting at $199 USD

The S6 will have a few extra features notably o2 sensor and a slightly smaller bezel.

This. I don't see why people are confused about this. They clearly can't keep selling the AW3 if they don't plan to support it in watch OS 8. So they are essentially bringing back the AW4 and calling it by another name. Apple always uses the old models as the "cheap" version. There is no mystery here, except for the name, which they have to change because the AW4 has been discontinued.

Its better to piggyback on someone who is right some of the time than to rely on his own «sources» who are wrong all of the time.

How much cheaper really need the Apple Watch to be?!
Are you kidding? I know the intro model is pretty much Apple-Reasonable, but It’s old tech and the current models start at $400 and $700 for a WATCH.

I love my Apple Watch, and I started with a SS for Series 0, but The new prices - especially for a 44mm (plus AppleCare) Is just insane. I could even see $500 for a ss watch, but starting at $700 is nuts. $429 for the aluminum I just purchased last year has led to scratches, gouges and looks very cheap in comparison.

I don’t know that I will purchase another when this one goes unless they drop the prices of the ss.

Hate the names, but I get it. You have to differentiate somehow and keep it consistent across all product lines. I think a lower cost Apple Watch at $199 would be a great buy for a ton of people, which would keep Apple with a healthy lead in the wearables market.

I don’t mean to be flip, but even if he’s right, who cares?

It’s a surprise to NO ONE that Apple is going to sell a lower cost AW with features of preexisting models. That’s not inside information or showing skills as an analyst, that’s common sense. They do it every year.

Tell me about new features or new devices or what date those will be announced. Oh right, Prosser tried and he was wrong about all three. Seriously, stop reporting this guy’s garbage.

After the war, many heroes rise :))
You think we will get an apple pencil SE ? in the near future? Or you guess Apple is doing this only for the main devices like ipad, iphone and macs?

We’re still covering this guy? Just a week ago, he didn’t even think there would be an event on Tuesday.

I've been using the Series 4 since launch and it's been amazing. If they can offer a similar experience with a device price competitive with the lower end of the market, I think that would sell like crazy.
I'm of the same mind.

I have the series 4 since launch, and my biggest worry has been what I would do if it got damaged. Right now, there's no way I could afford to replace it with anything other than a downgrade to a series 3.

If they bring out a "Watch SE" for under £200, that is (as near as makes no odds) the series 4, then I'll be a very relieved person.

Unlike Ming Chi Kuo, prosser’s predictions seems more miss than hits, not unlike digitimes. I don’t know why MR is reporting on everything he says.
EXACTLY! When I see Prosser or Digitimes I just move on. And if I post something saying so, it gets deleted by MacRumors. So telling.

Yes this is perfect for me to replace my AW series 1. I had a feeling they would replace the AW3 with the AW4 at the £199 price point. Although they have removed some features like ECG, its fine by me, the larger size and massive performance improvements over the AW series 1 will be well worth it.

Anything introduced without a significantly larger battery and the ability to fully charge in less than an hour is unfathomable to me. Once again Apple thinks a watch is a vanity affectation rather than a tool.

S3 to S4 speed improvements were massive, that's more than enough reason and that's not even mentioning the screen size which is huge.

They're welcome improvements, but the S3 CPU is probably plenty fast for the $199 Watch.

The display… maybe? Especially with the new watch face sharing in watchOS 7?

I don't know what he is even talking about with "M9" chip though, since that's a motion coprocessor from 3 years ago, not a watch SoC. God I hate Prosser.

Well, the Watch S* chips are partially offshoots of older iPhone chips. The M9 is actually even older than that; the generation three years ago had the M11.

Always wanted an :apple:Watch Air with no health options. Just calls, notifications and longer battery life for $99.
For now I use a Samsung Galaxy Fit.

"faster CPU" probably isn't as big of an issue as future capable CPU. The S3 in the Series 3 is 32-bit ( if I recall correct). Apple has killed off 32-bit ARM code just about everywhere. At this point in time the Series 3 is very likely a 'dead end" once Watch OS 7 ships.

Yes, that makes sense. They probably don't want to kill Series 3 support until around watchOS 9, though, since the Series 3 is still sold as of today.

It would not be very surprising if all of the Watches switched to having the exact same processor. That would give Apple more volume and uniformity of hardware target to write towards. And then differentiate the watches on "advanced sensors" like EEG, temperature , etc. ( maybe sleep) as well as "fancy case material". They could sell "old S5 " chips in the new lower priced model, but it really probably isn't about "horsepower" for the processor.

Maybe. They did kind of take this approach with iPhone SE / 11 / 11 Pro this cycle. They all have an A13.

Being able to keep up with Watch 8 (and up) is going to be noteworthy going forward. At some point Apple is going to break out the Watch from being so hard tethered to the iPhone if they want better growth objectives s with the product.

Well, recent developments do suggest that. It ultimately depends on whether they expect to make more revenue selling watches that don't require an iPhone. (My hunch is most people that want an Apple Watch also want an iPhone anyway.)

Apple is moving the watch beyond "fitness" and more into general health. Even if don't do workouts ( although that is more healthy) , your sleep , falling (or not) , heart health are a broader set of outcomes.

Yes, but stuff like sleep tracking is also part of fitness trackers.

Commentary on the source aside, this would be a great move. AW4 was a fantastic release (massive upgrade from the 3) and would cause many more people to pull the trigger at the $199 price point, even if they nerf a few features. Honestly the ECG is a wickedly cool feature but also completely unnecessary for at least 75% of the market.

PROSSER IS DONE!

He’s a tool.

- AirPods "ready to ship" this spring? Then postponed to WWDC? Still hasn't arrived.
- AppleTV rumoured to ship. Still hasn’t arrived.
- WWDC iMac predictions - WAY OFF! No hardware whatsoever.
- iPhoneOS apparently ”confirmed”. HAH.
- AirPower - Turned out to be a fake photo! Which he added his own watermark to...
- Apple Watch/iPad Air 4... We all know how that turned out...

And the list just keeps growing! MacRumors, please stop posting his so-called leaks!!
