My guess is the auctions were hosted by Gawker Media in an effort to raise money to pay for legal expenses. :D

NintendoDSi/3DS Sony also has a camera add-on for the PSP. Also Sony has the iToy, and Microsoft is using cameras for project natel. Cameras are making their way into game machines.

for the record, i was being sarcastic. recall when apple didn't include a camera in the last iPod touch update citing the reasons i've mentioned.

these are actually first generation "skankphone" iphone touch prototypes from 2008-2009 judging by the OS that looks a lot like the one in the

and the presence of the skankphone app

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 3_1_3 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/528.18 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/4.0 Mobile/7E18 Safari/528.16)

So with the new iPhone leak DVT or design verification test, is supposed to mean that it is near final design. If this device bearing DVT turned out not to be what we got, how can we be sure that the iPhone we have seen and are now anticipating will actually have a front camera or other features?

You can't.

Steve.

Sent from my iPad :D

I agree with everyone that thinks there should be a camera on the itouch, but when the new iPhone comes out with a front facing camera, iPod touch users are going to complian that they don't have that. But, it's a good idea and I can't wait to see what else they will do to it by September.

God I hope that isn't real. The design is still the same and I'm tired of the metal back! I want an ALUMINUM back!

It's already aluminum... just shined. If you mean brushed aluminum, that's making more sense :p

So why were they removed? Between the the 4G, phystar, and other recent news apple is starting to sound like a crying school girl.

And you just showed your lack of intellect. Apple did nothing but ask for the 4G prototype back, the DA in two cities are looking at filing charges because a crime was committed. Psystar, you can't even get that right, was violatiing the rules by which you buy the Apple OS. Go back and read the long threads on this topic, though you're probably not smart enough to understand that topic either. Psystar couldn't even prove it bought OSX for the number of machines it sold, that's because it didn't - again theft of IP.

What other recent news? Apple started getting sued by other companies that are jealous of Apple's success; Apple chose to counter-sue to protect its interest. We could have a long debate as to which company is more in the "right" however I don't think any of us know enough facts, let the courts handle the issues at hand.

The only one I see crying is you becuase you have no basic god-given common sense.

I wonder if Jobs was pissed when these got lost too.

He's not pissed about any of the leaks, nor are Apple in general as they planned this.

This is all part of the process - keep iphones in the news at all times - everyone SUPER aware there is a new model coming. Wake up.

Basically it's product lifecycle management. They need to make sure their higher priced gadgets have more features. With the next gen iPhone looking likely to receive a front facing camera, I imagine a rear camera could be on the cards for the next iPod touch release.

it would kill both the nano and iphone. plus why do we need so many cameras?

I'm not going to buy an iPhone simply so I can have a camera. What is going to make me buy an iPhone is the fact that I want a cell phone, which I still don't own and don't want.

And I'd much rather have an iPod Touch than a Nano, camera or not, which is why I have one. And I want a camera because the only camera I have is not something I can stick in my pocket. I carry around my iPod Touch with me and would love to be able to take pictures with it. WHy is this so hard to understand?

and they weren't lost they probably didn't need them and were going to be destroyed and someone took it instead.

IF these were real and were rejected for the 'gaming' thing blah blah, you can bet that they were kept under the same lock and key until they were destroyed and not left out for someone to take.

Apple is that secret. I once overheard someone tell a store staff member they had to put a piece of paper in the shredder not the trash. It looked like it was a diagram of how they lay out all the cases and such on the walls. why would something like that be kept so secret, seriously.

And you just showed your lack of intellect. Apple did nothing but ask for the 4G prototype back,

According to Gizmodo, who probably aren't above faking that letter to validate that the unit is real

the DA in two cities are looking at filing charges because a crime was committed.

maybe two, I mean come on, he 'found' the phone. might that be code for 'I picked this guy's pocket at a bar and stole his phone'. It would be a reason to protect the source.

Psystar, you can't even get that right, was violatiing the rules by which you buy the Apple OS.

More to the point they violated copyright since Apple is not an illegal and abusive monopoly of a non existent Mac Market, they can in fact control what hardware is used and who makes/compiles it. And even without the whole copyright issue they violated the DCMA which makes it illegal to break access control methods placed on a device or in software by the originator.

And yes Apple is suing for violation of their patents. it's part of the patent game. Same for trademarks. You don't protect and it's seen as giving them up. Which is also why Apple is being sued.

I can't believe people here think they have the right (and the marketing knowledge) to determine which devices should and shouldn't have a camera.

So we should expect a 'leaked' iPad with a camera found in a Taco Bell sometime this fall? :D

All these alleged prototypes (in their final stages) are getting a bit tiresome. I wouldn't be surprised if the next iPhone and iPod Touch looked quite different from these "teasers" that we're seeing.
