Maybe it's all fake, and in October they announce the most insanely awesome phone on earth. lol, I can dream can't I?

Here's something to note about the "4S" idea... Our current iPhones would go wayyyy down in value... More so than if they just had an iPhone 5. Lameness!

If this is the real deal, I have no idea what Apple has been doing for the last 14 months.

Just thinking that myself. Apple is not announcing 2 phones (iPhone 5 and iPhone 4"S") They're just gonna announce the iPhone 5 with a larger screen/new design/better specs/etc. They will still offer a cheaper model of the iPhone 4 for everyone. How hard is this to understand?

Wait, I don't get it

I'm still not so sure that Apple will brand the "new" iPhone 4 an iPhone 4S... I think it will remain an iPhone 4 branding, even though they've reworked some of the innards for cost savings.

I also expect this iPhone 4 will continue to use an A4 even though some have found an A5 in them. Just doesn't feel right.

Could be wrong, but that's what my gut says right now...

i hope it's true and it's the iPhone4s. I also hope they sell it quite cheap as unlocked version. I don't care about a 4inch screen on a hyper gameboy phone with 8MP camera.

I want a smartphone that is unlocked and doesn't drive you into poverty when you drop it......

Somewhat true...you can still sell a 16gb 3gs for $250 if its it good shape on eBay out of contract. That's still pretty good resale.
If I can get $400 out of my 4 when the new one comes out I would be happy.
I am lucky enough to get an upgrade every year with my plan, so it makes sense to upgrade every year.

IF all we are getting is 4S. I would expect more people to buy the reduced priced 4 or wait for 5. I don't see a lot of people spending the extra $$ for 4S.

Bad move IMO.

If that is infact what the next iPhone will be Apple just saved me a few hundred dollars...I'm not going to upgrade an i4 just for a faster processer and calling it an i4s.

I would like to see a larger screen, as long as there is an increase of pixels as to maintain the 326ppi, which i really like and value alot more than screen size. But, i dont want to see the phone get any larger, or at the worst, only want to see it increase in size a tiny bit. Ive used many android phones, my interpretation is they are fat massive things that dont fit in your pocket, have a comparably blurry resolution and an oversized screen - i dont like them, i prefer super high pixel density for bright whites and the ability to read any detail on a compact thin phone. There is a point where cell screens are too big, bigger is not always better, its a mobile device after all. There is a sweet spot, that should never be passed at any point no matter how far technology goes. Its not like in 2016 6" screens will be the norm. I could deal with a 4" screen max and then im done

If the iphone 5 doesn't have a bigger screen, I will not be buying it. What's the point of buying a device that looks identical to what I already have? I'm sure it'll be a bit faster, but the iphone 4 is fast enough for my needs. I honestly just want a bigger screen and if that means going to android then so be it.

I can't imagine that apple keeps a A4 chip production line running. I seem them more likely to have only one type of CPU in all iOS devices. It's more economical. Maybe they have different clock speeds for iPhone 4 and iPhone 5 and iPad 2/3. That's how it was done with computers before.

And here come the "I demand a bigger screen or I'm going to Android" posts ...

Actually, if the next iPhone does not have at least a 32" 3D retina display, 5G network, 1gb of storage, 50mp camera, 5.1 surround and a built in Keurig coffee maker, I'm going to Android!

Really... I guess we'll know what's going on for real in a couple weeks. My guess is the 4s will replace the iPhone 3 as the entry level phone and the iPhone 5 will be something completely different. My guess is there's a lot of confusion with these spy shots between the two and I think Apple has been testing iPhone 5 components in iPhone 4s form factor for security.

Steve is no longer in charge so the new one will be beige and the size of a brick with a thick, black antenna protruding from the end.

They could easily get a 4 inch screen on the next iphone without increasing the size of the phone too much. I agree some android phones are way too big because they wanted to include a bigger screen, but there are many android phones with 4 inch screens that aren't much bigger than the iphone.

Hopefully this isn't the only new iPhone we get. If it is, why take 15 months since the last? I could understand it looking the same if they stuck to the original June release date, but almost 4 months extra and we get the same? Please say it isn't so.

I see three possibilities here.

1.) This is the cheaper iPhone 4 model offered alongside the 'iPhone 5' this fall
2.) This is an incremental update for the iPhone4 offered this fall, with an 'iPhone 5' offered early next spring (unifying the iPad and iPhone release dates).
3.) There is no 'iPhone5' as such, all the redesign rumors are false (at least until later next year, late summer or fall).

Best case from my perspective as a prospective near-term upgrader is 1, worst case is 3.

I'd say they look almost the same from the first look.

Right.
So my inferred point was/is maybe some of these rumors attributed to iPhone 5 or 4GS are actually for next gen iPod touch. The devices are not that different. Meaning, an unknown redesign of both could easily yield parts we could attribute to either device.

C'mon announcement. Let's get a date in mind when we can end this madness. ;)

I think/hope this is the iPhone 4 redesign- the cheap version that they will be selling....

i'm ready for something new!

Given the timing of the iPhone release this year more than likely coinciding with the iPod lineup being also up for a refresh, is it really so hard to imagine that the iPhone rumors about a "tapered metal back" are simply regarding a new iPod Touch? Every time I see posts claiming "mixed messages" regarding an iPhone 4 like design vs. the teardrop design, this seems like a pretty obvious conclusion.
