Upgrading a processor only makes sense if the software upgrades along with it.
Just like we saw apps optimized for the iPad 2 we will see apps optimized for the iPhone 5.

If this rumor is true it shows that Apple put this model out only to humor it's customers. After all is an A5 processor or an 8 megabyte camera such a big deal in an IPhone????
This rumor sounds to bland to be true I don't think Apple would let us down

What were you expecting? The iPhone design stayed the same for three years. A bigger screen would be nice if you have large hands but otherwise I personally couldn't care less about them making the screen bigger by .2 or .5 inches.

Don't see why people are surprised by this. It'll be another 3GS-like upgrade. Better processor, better camera, probably more RAM, and higher storage space options. I think the only reason it got pushed back was because iOS 5 wasn't ready yet due to them moving people to Lion to finish the development.

I get it, I do. I just wonder why so long...The longer we wait the more disappointment. It should have already been out 2 months ago.

This is what we should all expect coming. The iPhone 5 with an 8MP camera and the A5 processor.

Apple again being lazy ****.
Just upgrading some technical **** and voila; new phone.

Apple is moving so slowly compared to competitors that they are loosing the edge. iOS 5 is nice but all small changes compared to what the "competitor" is doing.

Apple design is also slowly updated: Can't remember the last time a real update was done on the Macbook Pro; just some hardware changes.

This will be nice because I can spend less time watching the announcement...in that all that will happen is Tim Cook entering the stage saying..

"Hi, we've got some really interesting stuff to talk about today!

Here's the iPhone 4S! It's unnecessarily faster and takes pictures that are unnecessarily larger in resolution!

Thanks for coming out, guys!"

If this is the real deal, I have no idea what Apple has been doing for the last 14 months.

I agree. I'll go crazy if the announcement comes and this was basically it

None of the waiting could have had ANYTHING to do with the terrible disaster in Japan, slowing or stopping progress. -Sarcasm-

You don't think they take this into account? Think again.

If the phone is exactly the same as the 4, other than they have to fit the A5 processor and a higher resolution camera in it, there shouldn't be any issues with time. They're pumping out iPhone 4's like there's no tomorrow.

Compared to what the competitors are doing? Like marketing outdated garbage like Flash as if it were a desirable feature, which confuses consumers to the point of allowing a harmfully obsolete technology to gain an extra five minutes of life?

You are clearly wanting a bigger screen and Flash, that's all.

There is no fact saying there will be 2 iPhone releases this year.

But I honestly hope they change the design. I like my iPhone 4 but I want something different.

according to an article on Engadget they may add a LED or a mic next to the proximate sensor

And since "specs do not matter", it means that iPhone 5 will be identical to iPhone 4.

The Apple dis-information campaign is strong!

We all know the iP5 will be large enough to satisfy even the most diehard compensator.

I hope so......We can only hope that this is Apple playing with us. Let's face it, it will be hard to top ip4 release.

I'm not so concerned about the bigger screen, myself. And I think the iPhone 4 is definitely the most beautiful looking phone on the market, but I just never have liked the way it feels. I think something that looks similar to the iPhone 4 from the front, with a curved back would be perfect.

Seconded. I've stuck with the 3GS for this reason.

A back fashioned from LiquidMetal would be good for the '5' - should make the phone tough enough to manage without a case. I have a memory stick made of the stuff which is tough enough to survive a car driving over it. Other reports suggest it makes good aerials too.

Honestly, a lot of people would be happy with "just" an updated iPhone 4 with an 8 MP camera and A5 dual-core processor.
A lot of people upgrading to the new phone have an older iPhone 3G or 3GS. This will be a huge jump. I have a 3GS, so I'm getting the retina display, a camera flash (I've been wanting one for so long), way more memory, a faster CPU, much better camera, a new design, better battery, etc, etc.

If you already have an iPhone 4 and are scoffing at rumors of such "basic" upgrades: this iPhone isn't for you then. Wait until next year.

I'm still not so sure that Apple will brand the "new" iPhone 4 an iPhone 4S... I think it will remain an iPhone 4 branding, even though they've reworked some of the innards for cost savings.

I also expect this iPhone 4 will continue to use an A4 even though some have found an A5 in them. Just doesn't feel right.

Could be wrong, but that's what my gut says right now...

They may be putting iphone 5 internals in an iphone 4 shell for testing purposes. The fact that they are putting out a slightly revised iphone 4 and all new iphone 5 seems to be confusing the rumor mill (I assume that's their plan, of course).

The most devoted iPhone fans always get the newest phones. Why should we be punished because other people are too cheap to upgrade regularly?

IMO the next iPhone will be nothing but a slightly upgraded iPhone 4. Why do you think Steve stepped down, its because Apple has nothing compelling to offer. He left at a perfect time and at the high point of Apple from here on it's down hill. Just look at other important people from Apple have left in the past year, that's gotta make you wonder.
