I restored my phone to 4.0.1 and set it up as a new phone. I no longer have issues with the proximity sensor or bluetooth. Before the restore, I was constantly muting, pressing buttons, and changing to speakerphone due to the proximity sensor issue and my bluetooth (Jawbone Icon) was unusable (muffled voice, static, mic would stop working mid call).

No idea why this worked, but I am unable to replicate any of the prior issues.

Update: Problem has returned! This sucks.

For anyone else that has a Jawbone Icon:

I read a thread in another forum that indicated A2DP may be causing the problems. I had the A2DP software installed on my Icon, so I uninstalled A2DP from the Icon and have not had any trouble with bluetooth. Not sure if this will last, but I did this Saturday night and all is still well.

I was having constant problems with the P.S. on my week 25 phone. I spoke with AppleCare a few times, and after trying to troubleshoot the problem, they shipped me a replacement phone today.

The new phone is a week 28 build, and I am still having the exact same problems:(

Iphone 4 problems making and receiving calls

It is my understanding the iPhone 3's touchscreen sensor disabled itself when you placed the phone near your face when making or receiving calls. It looks that the iPhone 4 is not designed as such. Therefore when you are making or receiving calls, either you are limited to using the speaker phone or put up with annoying sound bites coming from various things on the iPhone being pressed, such as speaker button, key pad, etc.

I hope Apple comes with a solution soon as I am getting ready to dump this phone in the bay.

I've had serious problems with my proximity sensor(Mute,Speaker, end call etc.) and i did quite a lot of search about it.
I updated to 4.1,reset factory/network settings etc. But none helped, however i managed to fix it today.
I took out my OT Commuter case out of my phone and bingo! Haven't had any proximity sensor problems yet! (tested for about 30minutes of talking).
I think it makes sense because the edges of the case are slightly above the phone itself which seems to make problems with the proximity sensor, and as soon as i took it off, I didn't have any problems with the PS.

Same here

3 days ago when i called a girl, it randommed called another girl without disturbe my during call, but the randommed girl called me 4 times and i got so mad becouse i was in a meetin so i didnt have time to call but she continued to call me and i didnt know why, untill i hang up and saw i had called the randommed girl 4 times while i was talking

the touch is crap on the iPhone 4. When i write text it very often dont make space or hit the letters even when i clearly hit it. iPhone 3g(s) worked perfectly, iPhone 4 is so buggy. Apple should be a shammed

Ancient thread bumping ftw.

While I post some spam, why not add something relevant? I did have proximity issues when I had an iP4 on AT&T. I hope it has been fixed because I will be upset if it happens when I get my Vz iPhone.

This has been so frustrating for me to. I can't have a phone conversation without my face ending the call, and even sometimes calling someone else. I didn't have this problem when I had the otterbox defender case. I guess I will order another one. It has a plastic cover so I am guessing that it helped the sensitivity issue since this problem started when I changed cases.

Why be upset?????

This problem was fixed a long time ago.
Apple will replace it for free. ;)

yeah there was definitely a hardware issue with the proximity sensor on some of the early models after reading of so many problems. I got mine on launch day and could not go through a call without muting or hanging up on someone. I actually dropped my phone and cracked the screen last week and brought it to the apple store where they kindly replaced it for free. On the replacement I have had ZERO proximity sensor issues! When the phone is against my face the screen is now always off :D. I also no longer have any issues with my home button. Feels good to have a properly working iPhone! lol

this **** isn't fixed because I have the problem on my Verizon Iphone and my GF doesn't. It did work before and now it doesn't.

Is there still no fix for this?

I am running iOS 5 and my face hitting buttons happens on every call I make. This should be even less of a problem for me because I have an otter box that means its harder for me to hit the screen with my face.

Is there an app (I'd pay up to $4.99) for this?

If Apple has not fixed this issue by the time I need to buy my next phone, it's highly unlikely I'll ever buy an Apple phone ever again.

"They all do that Sir"

My iP4s screen is still active and lit up when I take a call, I just angle the phone away from my face, hopefully this will be fixed for iP5.

My IP4 was pretty bad with the proximity sensor not working very well. At some point when I upgraded to IOS 4.3.5 and have had no problem since. I am not sure if the new OS fixed it or what, but it seems to work ok now.

Thankfully mine works perfectly. Screen is off when it's at my ear and comes on when I pull it away. Works even if I'm using wifi and voice at the same time too. iPhone 4s though.

After reading all the issues people have I baby my perfect phone! Lol
