I'll probably get one. I sold an bass I wasn't using anymore and I've got a nice pay coming up, so I'll have too much money for my own good (if that's even possible).
I'll just have to be carefull though, I almost got scammed by someone who was announcing a 80gig PS3 on Kijiji.ca for 300$. Sounded too good to be true but the procedure seemed almost ligitimate. But I made a little research and found other people who got scammed... thank god!

You can get a PS3 bundle on walmart.com with a $100 gift card. A walmart gift card is basically cash back for adults that need to buy gas or groceries, its not that useful to kids though other than for buying games.

MGS4 is not like the other games, the combat is more like GoW. People who didnt like the old games because of crappy combat should like MGS4. Watch some gameplay videos of it, its one of the best shooters out in terms of gameplay, and in terms of overall-ness it IS the best shooter out.

There will be other big games this year as well, Little Big Planet is going to revolutionize multiplayer games and will be a force to be reckoned with.

Little Big Planet looks AMAZING

R:FoM was good at launch(its nothing amazing now, but R:FoM 2 looks good)

Personally I want one, but we'll see.

I don't mind if R:FOM doesn't look good. As long as it's fun to play...
(And I don't own a Wii!!)

I say it is worth it. I am not a huge gamer or Blu-Ray fan, but enjoy it. The Xbox 360 sounds like a jet engine getting ready for take off. The PS3 is nearly silent.

Buy it for a Blu-Ray player and RockBand Special edition. My brother says MGS4 is amazing, but I haven't played it since the original one came out.

P.S. it works for an internet browser when the wife is on the Mac.

I have two. A 60gb USA model & 40gb Euro model. I have upgraded both machines to 160gb as I was struggling with space from game installs.

Ps3 is a great machine. Forget comparisons to 360 or wii as that discussion is irelevant. You ask if the ps3 is worth it... The answer taking into account the machines merits only is a definitive yes....

only 160?? psssh :p

If there are enough games on the system that you like and you can find it for a decent enough price, yes.

When I had a ps3 all it did was gather dust after I beat GTA IV.

So I got the 40GB today, didn't play yet. It's pretty big... (and I thought the original Xbox was big!) and I would've thought they'd have put a component cable in there... oh well, hdmi is pretty cheap now. Gonna play MGS4 now.

Was able to use my component cables from my PS2.

Enjoy!

If you get Warhawk - post over at the Warhawk thread and we can all meet up.

It's a great system - had a rough start, but definitely one for the future!

i think it pretty much comes down to if you have $400 to drop and dont want to invest it or don't have anything else to spend it on, cop a ps3. otherwise, id just wait until bluray becomes the more commonly used format and wait till they drop the price again.

also the large size of the console kinda bothers me, but sony will most likely thin it out like they did with the psone and ps2. and they're aren't any games that would require you to buy a ps3 except for mgs4

The PS3 is definitely worth its hefty price tag. The quality of the games that are on the console right now is quite brilliant. MGS4 and GT5:p are alone enough to buy the console. MGS4 is definitely going to be a contender for game of the year. The storyline, graphics, gameplay, controls, of this game is like nothing before it.

Mark my words, its like playing a movie! :)

On the contrary my dear fellow. I'll think you'll find at least 3 other games that are just like it.

And the biggest problem a lot of people have with the game in general is the fact it's way too much movie (now with slightly interactive cut-scene's which make those 15/20 minutes slip by) and not enough game.

Add GT5 (Prologue / as final version isn't out) and MGS4 are enough to buy a PS3 for alone ? Well you have too much money then sir...

I may have two PS3's - but buying a machine for solely 2 games is just a ridiculous statement in a sane world.

He's probably just a mega fan of the MGS series. I'd have bought a Wii for Smash Bros Brawl alone  though it wasn't a £300 console.

I've been a huge Metal Gear fan since the 80s and that game alone is worth the price of the PS3 for me. That movie-like feeling is part of what I love so much about the series.

This is the year of the PS3 in my opinion. Lots of big titles coming out, not even counting MGS4. And if you have an HD capable TV and were looking at Blu-Ray players, getting hte PS3 is a no brainer. Good value in my opinion.

i must be insane because i bought my ps3 recently so i could play gta4. the last console i had was a super nintendo and that was just for street fighter 2. that was the only game i had. ( i have 4 games for my ps3. cod4, nba 2k8, gta4, & gh3. i suck at all of them)

i realized now, i'm not much of a gamer. i've had it for a month now, and i still haven't even come close to beating gta4.

the thing i've been using my ps3 the most for is to stream videos from my mac to the tv. i was thinking of getting an apple tv, but now i just use my ps3. it's a cool machine. i had regrets at first, but now i'm really liking it. little big planet looks awesome. i just wish i had a better knack for these new games.

i say get one!

I so love mine, there are already some good titles out and some awesome ones. And by the looks of it end of 2008/beginning of 2009 looks great game-wise. With the Blu-Ray player you can't really go wrong, though I wouldn't want to trade in my apple TV as a media center.

I pretty much bought it for GTA4, though there are other games too that I enjoy on there.

GTA4 is truly a masterpiece, it's such a fun game. That title alone makes it worth it!
