I'd like a PS3 Slim for the bedroom. There's a 60GB PS3 (launch) in the living room (with a 320GB drive installed), but I'd like to be able to play other people over the internet (as split screen seems to have died these days).

Looks like the PS3 Slim's been confirmed. K-Mart has already listed the item starting today:

K-Mart Product Listing

The best part is that there's a price. And it's $299.99. Oh and a release date of August 24th. ;)

Tiger, I must have missed when the Slim was announced by Sony. Do you have a link to that I can view later?

You'll have to wait. We have to build up some suspense don't we? ;)

Oh BTW, I just remembered Sears owns K-Mart, so it's listed on their site as well, since K-Marts site is a clone of the Sears website.

9am PST is Sorny's Gamescom keynote. PS3 Slim, PSP-Go! Price cut and a bigger badder PSN, make it so.

GAF is reporting that in Euroland, PSP + PS3 bundled together for 400...

Wow, looks like Sony is serious about getting back in the game. If there's a firmware update for PS2 backwards compatibility, it'll be even better. Emotion Engine + Graphics Synthesizer emulation patents in the past month? I think Sony's striking back. MS needs to watch out now. ;)

I doubt they'll put BC back. They're sods like that.

And yes, I'm still bitter they pulled the BC chip from the EU launch units and had the cheek to charge the same price.

Sony had a string of backward compatibility patents get approved awhile back for competely emulating PS2 titles using the cell chip. Surely, they didn't develop that for no reason.

However, I have the 60GB launch model. So, it doesn't matter much to me.

I hope we get a new firmware update that adds new features. We haven't had a firmware update in what seems like forever.

Jem Alexander: From which he picks up the new slimmer PS3, available in the first week of September

299 Euros, 299 dollars. (in pound sterling plx?)

New PSP colours. New shorter Loco Roco game. Firmware 3.0.

Cool beans?

the original 60GB systems are still the ones to have. Hardware PS2 support, 4USB, and media card reader, can't be beat. Plus it is a workhorse. i bought mine off ebay and some initial problems early on and had to get it RMA'd and once i did that, she has been rock solid. I eventually plan on getting another one, but not sure if slim or another configuration.

Its always funny to see people reward MS for mediocrity. Latest reports show that the Xbox has a 55% failure rate! But what can I say, I guess people are just cheap. They wouldn't recognise build quality if it hit them.

When MS released X360, 80% of CPUs were defective and they knew it. They only wanted money from Christmas sales.

PSPgo with a free copy of GTP(sign up in time)
New PS3 with a cheaper price tag($299) bigger HDD and smaller form factor...not to mention all models get the price drop starting today.

I'll be getting another PS3 it seems and a white PSPgo....good form Sony.

Firmware 3.0 looks interesting but no cross game chat killed it.

Icing: Digital Reader....excellent.

Bless

And the amusing thing is they keep on going back to MS after multiple failures. I mean, don't these people learn their lesson? Why don't they just pay a bit extra for quality hardware? The total cost of ownership for a Xbox 360 is off the charts compared to a PS3.

And to beat Sony's release date by a year. That's the one thing about hardware, you can't issue updates to fix it post-release.

There's no excuses now. Go buy a PS3.

Edit: It's really tiny.

Hah, I win! No BC.

I have a launch 60GB model too, but being in the EU we got shafted as they removed the PS2 emulation chip.

Hmm, regular buttons....lame. The touch sensitive buttons on the phat PS3 give it a very exquisite feeling. Maybe the HD goes in the bottom right in the front where the logos are? Supposedly 30 odd percent better power usage. Ever take a look at your electricity bill before and after console+tv purchases? It might (and thats a huge might) be worthwhile to sell phatty for slim due to electricity costs alone depending on your usage.

Firmware 3 is.....yawn, nothing substantial. Just adding the store update in many locations really. The rest is nice, should have been done before. Still M$ XBL is the clear winner even at only $50/yr.

Trying to buy Wipeout HD Fury last night was a PITA. It was listed under the Disc based games addons, which it is not. Also was not listed under W or F in the alphabetical search section. Nor was it listed as new.

Sony introduces new PS3 Slim

The PS3 Slim has officially been confirmed by Sony, and it's coming in at a great price: $299.99. The system will be available in the first week of September, feature a 120GB hard drive, and will be around a third smaller and lighter than the first-generation systems. It gets better: if you don't want to wait on the Slim, tomorrow you'll be able to go to your favorite retailer and buy an existing PS3 for $299.99 as well.

Yup, I'm excited too. :D

I'm very tempted by this too. In this day and age, it's hard not owning a Blue Ray player.

Since the PS2 Slim is the newest non-portable gaming system I own, I may take advantage of this system... :)

299 Euros, 299 dollars. (in pound sterling plx?)

£249.99 UK

€299 with 120GB hdd - will definitely be trading up my Euro model to this as soon as it's released.

September is going to be pricy if that Apple Tablet comes true, oh and my gym membership is due for renewal then too :( curses!!!

Are you guys really willing to hand your money over to MS for something which should have been free in the first place? What kind of a Apple fan are you?
