I just picked up the new slim PS3 from GameStop. It was suppose to come on September 1, but I guess I lucked out because I was going in to buy an 80 gig PS3 (not with included game and Casino Royale BD for $399) for $300 last week when a clerk offered me the newer 120 gig for the same price. So I took it, never having seen any pictures of it before. I do admit, I like the bigger PS3's glossy finish. But the looks of it won't matter too much once I start Playing games and watching Blu-ray. 
I mean, XBox and XBox 360 aren't the most aesthetically pleasing systems but people seem not to mind. And I've owned the original XBox…Goliath of a thing.

Since your the first person with the slim, give us impressions! Is it quiet, how do you like the matte finish, etc...?

Oh well I wonder how long it takes for Sony to get a crate of them over to Ireland AHH I want. I guess I'll stop by my Best Buy later to see if they've got any...Or still have any in stock.
Picked mine up at Gamestop this morning, too. I don't think I'll be able to conect it until Thurs evening, though. Kinda sucks.

Yeppers! I picked up mine from Best Buy and running the system update. I thought the PS3 Slims were supposed to come with FW 3.0? I'm currently updating to 2.8.
I also picked up a new Sharp Aquos 46" HDTV to go along with the PS3 Slim. Man I'm liking the combo so far.

September 1st was a 'guide' release date rather than official it seems.
If it was an official then the stores would hold back selling them till that date even if they had them in stock.
It's certainly looking like you US folks are getting them first.
I'm hoping mine will be waiting when I go to pick up Batman on Friday.
I thought that it was coming out the first week of Sept. They are still trying to use the price drop to get rid of some of the old stock. I wonder what they are going to do once they notice everyone waiting to get the slim instead of jumping the gun and getting a fat version. Honestly they should have dropped the price earlier 6 months earlier if they were going to release the slim version now.

Not really a console gamer but I guess this will tempt me. I really like the look of the DMC, GoW and Silent Hill titles on the PS3 so a price drop would bring me into the mix if it came during an MMO limbo period..
Why don't you treat yourself? It's a cool little system. The newest and greatest. Play some fun games, watch some Blu-ray movies. Now is the time!
You said that you need to save. I'm sure you can put that off a little bit. Treat yourself! Get the new PS3 Slim and a game or two. Then, you'll be set! Just think about it... If you save money and wait until a later date to buy it, you'll have to deal with all the waiting and temptation. But if you buy it now, you get to have all the fun while you're saving money. I mean, you have to save money either way. Might as well get the PS3 Slim before rather than after all that time!

So true, man. That's how I live my life. Money isn't forever and it'll always be in constant motion. So splurge a little. Plus it's a game system and Blu-Ray player all in one. I was a gamer before I was a film lover. If you're even one of those you won't be dissatisfied (unless you're the latter and your TV can't do 1080p).
I'm tempted to buy the PS3 Slim as well. Haven't bought a console since the Nintendo Gamecube way back in the day. I always liked gaming on the PC more but I never really played the most recent game consoles so maybe now is the time for me to get back in the console world! Decisions decisions decisions....
I'm going to pick one up tomorrow. A friend of mines got one from gamestop today and not that bad looking in person...on the wide side but it will stack up nice in my bedroom(hate that I have to buy a stand for it though)

First Impressions: It's definitely noticeably lighter than the PS3. If you've ever held one, I'm sure you know how heavy it was in your hands. The non-glossy finish is actually quite nice (à la PS2). Many people say it's ugly because they haven't seen it in person. So much smaller and more "discrete" (not shiny). It look compact and more frontward facing. Since the PS2, Sony went for either horizontal or vertical. This is like a sexy flat square and less rectangular. Where the buttons are located is still shiny. That's enough for me. Personally, I don't mind the buttons. They actually feel like the power buttons on MBPs such as the one in my sig. There are lights above the shiny buttons. And on another note, Sony packahes their products like Apple. Once you open the box, it's pretty much take it out of the box, plug it in, and you're ready to go. While a game is in it, it's super quiet. Like a Mac mini or my MBP; almost silent from a few feet. And as someone else said, it's version 2.76. Updating to 2.80 now…
Just found out my local Gamestop has 1 and local Best Buy has 3. Soo tempted! I've been out of the console news for a while... since the last generation of systems was released. What are the "must-have" titles for the PS3?
