Restart hubs/ATV/HomePods and phones?

Apart from that I think I speak for everyone here when I say: Thanks for taking one for the team.

(I will wait for 16.4.1)
oh no not the fans!! I was just looking at 4 of those ughh. guess ill wait a but on that too

Anyone still having the same issues with HomePod minis that updated the first time?

Mine are still configuring. I updated via connecting to Mac and factory resetting, then setting up new.

Setup process went well, and I thought all issues were behind me.

Still configuring almost 24 hours later.pat features not available.

Anyone solved this?

They removed iPad HomeHub support since iOS 16.1
iPads are no longer supported as Hubs unfortunately, you need an Apple TV or a HomePod

iOS 16 still supports the iPad as being a home hub. My parents' iPad is on the latest version of iOS 16 and it works just fine as a hub.

It's only the new architecture that does not support iPads. So long as you don't upgrade to the new architecture, you can still use an iPad. (Users that only have an iPad and no HomePod or Apple TV shouldn't even get prompted to upgrade the architecture.)

I had no issues with this the first time around, but hopefully they worked out whatever the issues were

Patiently waiting on other people’s experience about what will happen if I hit that update button…
I was one of the lucky ones. I got upgraded the first time it was available and never had issues. But my setup ins't that complex. A bunch of Hue lights, some home pods and an Apple TV, mini and OG and a Aqara hub with a bunch of motion and door sensors on it.

The one issue I do have is my automations don't work great if any of the home pods are the primary hub. I solved that by putting all my home pods on smart switches and power cycle them all in the middle of the night to try and make sure the Apple TV is in charge.

By gawd... it works. 🥺

I've barely finished speaking and the lights react. I hit a string of commands one after another, changing colours, turning on and off lights, turning on and off the TV, activating scenes and it never fails or delays.

I love the tone when a command is applied in a different room and Siri keeping quiet and just doing what I requested when I'm in the same room. If this stays like this, Apple doesn't have to do anything ever to HomeKit.

For the first time in a while, I can say...

So then what did they fix?

The setup. It failed for certain setups, particularly where there were multiple homes or shared home access. If yours installed without issue like mine, you don't have to do anything.

I got the new architecture in December. Didn’t have any issues except with a few thread devices(kinda regret getting so many thread devices cus now THEYRE the problem ones) So is 16.4 changing anything for me. If we upgraded to the new architecture in December and it was faulty why don’t we have to do anything now? The OS just fixes it?

They also appear to have turned on a switch server side with Siri since as soon as iOS 16.4 was released – not installed – my HomePods started behaving a lot more reliably. They worked well with the Home app but Siri was a mess for the last several weeks.

Don’t know if I trust it yet..
Same. I've spend the past year integrating my new wife's devices that she bought, adding new devices, etc. Not about to throw that all out the window until I have more confidence.

It may be obvious, but it’s worth mentioning that third-party apps (like Hue and ecobee) still work on non-updated devices to control individual accessories.

I thought of that too but the iPad Air I have on my wall is stuck on iOS 12 and even the up-to-date Hue app won't install anymore. Had to give up my iPad setup but it was worth it, for the reliability the new architecture brings.

I ended up getting an Echo Show frame to control some of my smart home stuff and Hue Tap Dials for the lights in each room.

Yeap, just made it and lost iPad home hub. For me it’s not a problem but somebody could be upset🙂

This did it. Restarted EVERYTHING - all devices got a circuit breaker reboot. Apple TVs were rebooted. Watch was rebooted even. Mac was rebooted.

Everything is working great now - EXCEPT my August lock. It still works perfectly through the app, but I can't use the Home app to lock/unlock it. Weird.

Overall - time and reboots lol

Just wanted to add that I took the plunge and so far I haven’t found any issues nor delays on responses, so far it’s been good and I have quite a lot of devices.

I don't get why a company with the resources of Apple can't figure out how to make these changes backwards compatible.

Because apparently, home automation is just an ongoing experiment in the basement at Apple, while the emoji team already got the top floor.

But yes, 16.4 fixed the bug/issues/problems that 16.3.x introduced 7 weeks ago. So from my perspective, I am no better/worse than I was before accepting the new architecture in 16.2.

Is there any way to have the list of scenes in the home app be a grid instead of a long single row that you have to scroll left and right to browse?

Upgraded but don’t see any improvement. If anything, it seems a bit worse as my hue lights show “failed” even though they’re turning off and on just fine. Really disappointed in Apple software these days.

What is the technology on that? BLE to an Apple hub?

I had excruciating problems with my Schlage lock for the last 7 weeks after updating tvOS to 16.3.x (I had already accepted the new Home architecture with 16.2) It's working normally again with tvOS 16.4 update.

During that 7 weeks of issues, rebooting my router and Apple TV got everything working for the rest of the day. Had to reboot router and ATV daily though. Maybe you just need to reboot your router - but don't power up your Apple hubs until after your router is rebooted.

Taking a look at the Hue app, it looks like it requires iOS/iPadOS 14.0 or later, so while not directly related to the new HomeKit architecture, it must be relying on something added to the OS in the past couple of years...

Don’t know if I trust it yet..
Since I've been trying (unsuccessfully) for a day to download the HomePod update, I think it's safe to say that the same crack team of geniuses that got us into the HomeKit mess in the first place are still on the case, and still as incompetent as they have been for the past ten years...

August use BLE to a small hub (size of a smartplug) that plugs into a nearby wall socket and relays the signal to WiFi.

The BIG problem with August is that their supposed reset mechanism is extraordinarily finicky. It involves like seventeen steps each of which requires three arms to complete, and won't work unless the batteries in the devices are all super fresh. Designed by an utter moron.
My experience has been that one of my August locks works just fine, the other is in reset hell.

It's a shame because, apart from this reset stupidity, everything else about the August locks is pretty damn smooth and nice.

So then what happens after a power failure?

Maybe there is nothing wrong with your BLE to August hub connection. Try rebooting your router while the Apple TV and any Home Pods are powered off. Then bring up your Apple hubs after the router comes back online.
