If you are attempting to navigate with Apple Maps right now, you may be unable to do so, as the service appears to be experiencing downtime.

The issue appears to be widespread, with many users reporting that Apple Maps is down across the United States, Canada, and other countries. The outage affects all devices with Apple Maps, including the iPhone, iPad, Mac, and Apple Watch.

"Directions Not Available," the app says. "Route information is not available at this moment."

Apple has yet to update its system status page to reflect any issues. We'll update this article if that changes or when the issues are resolved.

Down for me as well.

Apple claims it's pivoting into a services company yet hasn't updated their system status page to reflect any issues. Maybe they are hoping it will fix itself without people noticing :D

Apple maps is down and very few people notice because few use it... and rightly so. It’s taken me on so many wrong turns and given me so many headaches that i finally deleted it. Google maps is not only more accurate, but the interface is more appealing to me and intuitive. Better colour schemes, better directions, better arrival estimates and transit. Better in every way.

I’m one of the few. There may even be 10’s of us. 10’s!

I prefer it over Google Maps. There are some things I like more about Google Maps but Apple Maps has been faster re-routing with traffic than Google is (although Waze is even better [yes, I know Google owns Waze]) and in my use has been just as accurate or more accurate at routing the best routes. I also like that Apple Maps includes the speed limit. I wish Google would bring that feature in from Waze to Google Maps.

My experience with Google Maps has been good (other than the fact that it occasionally routes incorrectly to my home, which is inconvenient for people trying to get to my house; Apple Maps gets it correct but not everyone has an iPhone) but my experience with Apple Maps has been just as good (and sometimes better within the past few years). Google’s time estimates are a little better but Apple Maps over-estimates time, which is fine becauase it’s okay to show up early.

Invaluable here in México. Ouch.

While I prefer Google Maps most of the time, Apple Maps does have one rather significant benefit. When I get in my car in the morning, it'll pop up a notification on my watch telling me how long it will take to get to work and which route is quickest - If the highway is backed up, there's an alternate route that'll be faster, but if the highway is fine, the alternate route is a couple of minutes slower. I was really wondering why that didn't come up this morning.
The thing that’s been funny to me with Google Maps are the notifications about “time to work: XX minutes” or “time to home: XX minutes”. They’d be useful if they popped up at the right times (I allow Maps to use my location all the time), which they sometimes do, but I typically get the notifications at random times. Like the one that popped up at 5 AM telling me the time to work right then. I haven’t gone in to work at 5 AM for at least a couple years. Or I’ll be at work at early afternoon the notification will come through about time to home (when I still have hours left at work). Or, I’ll be driving home and typically almost home (or recently at home) and it will pop up telling me my estimated time to home from where I work. The notifications have not been helpful but I keep them on because they make me chuckle.

$260 Billion in cash.

The Maps war is over. Apple should close up shop on it and move on.
By that reasoning Apple should stop selling computers. Competition is good and many of us prefer Apple Maps to Google Maps (I like both though).

Down. Figures right? Getting ready to leave for home after being away for 5 days. The one feature for Apple CarPlay that’s worth it, maps, and it’s down!

If Apple wasn’t so freaking stupid in not allowing Google Maps or Waze with Carplay I wouldn’t be nearly as annoyed!

They are adding both with iOS 12. Now all they have to do is allow CarPlay on the phone when I turn it sideways and I won’t have to spend 500-1000 to have a new stereo installed.

Seriously who uses apple maps when you can have google maps.
Was looking for an Aldi Store last month and I knew one is close by. According to Apple maps the nearest store is a few kilometers away, google maps showed me one maybe 500m away

If Apple can't do navigation better than the competition (which they can't, in my opinion), I agree with you -- it's time for them to move on and invest those resources into other things that they can do really well.

I'm in the US and have used Apple Maps exclusively in many parts of the US over the past few years. Took a 2,000 mile road trip last year and it worked flawlessly the whole time. On one leg of our trip, a solid 8-hour drive, it gave us arrival estimate when we started out, then had to reroute us several times to avoid traffic, taking us all kinds of weird back roads throughout the night. And at the end of that drive? Within 30 minutes of that original estimate.

Maybe Google would've pulled off the same thing, but frankly I give them as little of my location data as I can get away with. Apple Maps is also better integrated into the OS than Google Maps, and it isn't infested with ads like Waze. It's 100% my first choice any time I can use it. And here in NYC, it works quite well with transit, even accounting for service diversions and delays.

Outside the US, I know it's a different story and Google is way ahead on comprehensive data. With sporadic internet in Central America a couple years ago, I relied heavily on Google Maps' offline map caching ability.

Down in NYC.
I'm now looking out my window at all the people with iPhones and many are walking into walls. Some walking onto subway tracks instead of trains. Directions are clearly not working. It's like watching a zombie movie only with Apple Maps users affected.

I'm going to have to follow people with Samsung phones in order to travel safely today.

It's really depressing. I do prefer Apple Maps.

I predict that bringing Google Maps and Waze to CarPlay in iOS 12 means that Apple has finally resigned itself to the idea that the writing is on the wall for Apple Maps. I think it's telling that there wasn't a single mention of Apple Maps in the WWDC keynote; but there sure was a lot of applause from the audience when they mentioned that Google Maps and Waze would be available in CarPlay. I mean, really, how many people would complain if Apple Maps went away in a two or three years? There will be a few vocal complainers who will go bananas over privacy concerns with Google, but if someone is so concerned about "being tracked", they should turn Location Services completely off on their devices.

That's not to say they can't or shouldn't use the technology behind Apple Maps for other things that they might be working on, but I think they need to get out of the consumer-facing mapping business.

Wow, the 3 people that use it will be inconvenienced.

Fact is that Apple Maps is used by the vast majority of iPhone users to the tune of many BILLIONS of times a week. In my case, I travel all over US and use it everyday, having switched from Google Maps, though I periodically still run them side by side for comparison while driving, because the UI is better; it is often more accurate with estimates and better traffic rerouting, and Privacy, of course. GM is still often better with voice recognition of odd places I am searching for.
