I wish I loved a company enough to defend them for charging me more for the same product. I get that some people will keep the subscriptions, but I find it weird for people to actively cheer on Apple for charging them more.

It's not about loving a company.

It's about being realistic about how prices increase due to inflation and other factors. That's true for individuals and companies.

I'm not glad that they're charging me $3/month more for the AppleOne family plan but in the grand scheme of things it's not worth complaining over when my whole family uses iCloud, Music, News+, TV+, and Arcade every single day.

I only subscribed to Apple One because it was a convenient saving of features I don't use. TV+ is lacklustre that I surf and don't end up watching anything these days. Apple Arcade my kids don't even touch.

So with this price increase, I cancelled the service to keep iCloud and Apple Music. My wife has been complaining about the selection of songs available on Spotify versus Apple Music. I love that there's high-quality songs, but being we're all on Bluetooth devices, it doesn't make a difference. So possibly cancel Apple Music as well and move back to Spotify.

In which case all I really need at this point is for iCloud service.

A reasonable increase. Especially if you're on the annual plan.

Apple Music is still an outstanding value.
Apple Music, yes, but most other services, notably TV+ and News+ are laughable, and to some extent Fitness+ too.

Any talk of an increase from the 2 TB? I’m going to need more storage one of these days.

We have Apple One Premium and make heavy use of most parts of it. Apple TV+ had a really slow start for my tastes, but now has multiple shows I like. So I’m not happy about the price increase but will continue my subscription.

Netflix is probably on the chopping block though. I’ll just renew for a month every year or so to catch up on the shows I like.

Boo and we knew this was inevitable - it's the strategy upon which almost every subscription service is built. They attract and build a user base with low rates, then over time, begin increasing the service fees ever other year (or so). They bank on A) our increasing laziness and B) that we'll be too entrenched in their service to leave (we are creatures of habbit). Apple is no different here.

While this has always been an understood inevitability, I didn't expect it to start increasing as soon. Additionally, I was hoping (I know, I know, crazy me!) for some feature improvements that could maybe take some of the annoyance off the price increase. But to do so with virtually no tangible feature improvements is kinda lame. And, again, not surprising. Money talks. Enough current One users leave and Apple will for sure alter their price hike cadence. Fo rme, I'm not quite there yet. We'll see how this pans out over the coming years.

The great thing about freedom and capitalism is that you can do business with whomever you choose. If you do not think the Apple increases are worth it and/or are unjustified, go to a competitor. In fact, you should go to a better competitor and allow the marketplace to work as efficiently as possible. In the meantime, as an Apple stockholder in this economy, I would be disappointed if Tim did not proceed with these increases. With inflation hitting everybody, there is no free lunch.

To get back to 80 cents a gallon you’d also need to trade in your Apple products and listen to Muskrat Love on your Sony Walkman. But you’d look awesome in your yarn swimwear. 🫣
Since I don't care for iDevices not much of a loss.😏 It would be PITA to give up OSX and revert to Classic MacOS and beige Macintoshes again.😑 I still get cold shivers thinking about the Performa lineup.😱

For what it's worth, I did.
Every company exist for the purpose of making money. However, some companies push to get more profits every quarter. Not just make money but make more in records. If more people took a stand with their wallet maybe, they’ll at lease try not to squeeze every penny. But people just pay. They have no need to compete or drop prices. People complain but they still pay no matter what. They are hooked so deep that they spend money they don’t have on things they don’t need for reasons no one knows. Sad but it is what it is.

Yes I'd gladly go back to that time as long as I forgot what was gone.

Yes I don't know who to blame more. Why would they stop raising prices as long as customers cough it up?

Yet the Apple One Individual plan still only has 50GB of storage, and Family only has 200GB. These are basically useless if you or your family needs to store any amount of media files. These should be at least 150GB and 500GB. Why does it have to jump from 200GB to 2TB? lol

A more than 10% increase in one price bump for the company with record profits. Great look.
Exactly. Increases are inevitable, but the % and frequency that are ridiculous lately. I remember when companies were scared to raise prices barely anything after years because they were scared to lose customers.

…so, are you canceling Amazon Prime, Netflix, Spotify or any other service? They’re all going up. Amazon keeps threatening to spin off Prime Video into its own service.

It's always worth it for the ones using all six slots or however many you get. This is why after YTMusic Expires we're going Spotify Duo. Is there anyone else who even acknowledges two people in a household?

I don't subscribe to any of those services.

Prime is still well worth it for everything you get. Even just shipping they destroy everyone else. Even if you can find better shipping on other sites, it's way more expensive, and they still take a week sometimes to ship the item.

To me, the insult comes less from the modest price increases, than from the fact that the economy is slowly imploding and they have the nerve to increase prices on an already barely-enough product. Just seems like a weird move.
They're increasing their prices, because like every other company out there, things cost more to provide. It's basic economics.

You're going to see everyone increasing prices of their products and services. This isn't just an Apple thing.
Neither of you are wrong. The fact that many of these services were so affordable for so long is nothing in short of amazing. It'd a hard-pressed situation if they stayed that way any amount of time. Hopefully, the increase in money is going towards those employees and those who are making the actual content, who are also feeling the squeeze (although, I doubt it :( ).

Speaking of which, people's wages indeed haven't caught up. Being that much of this is all entertainment/leisure*, it is one of the first things to go to the chopping block when people need to slash their budgets. Folks should be slashing their budget of things they don't use regardless. Not just when there's a price increase, but I do acknowledge that price hikes do help remind folks and help them reevaluate.

I'll be another to say that ATV+ is great. I really enjoyed my free trial of it. However, even though I can wholeheartedly recommend it, I don't think it's "the ss (streaming service) to end all ss" type deal. It's simply another ss that I plan to rotate in and out as new content comes out (Central Park and Foundation for a couple), and depending on what deals will be available next year (I got HBO Max on annual for 40% off, so that'll keep me occupied until the end of 2023).

* I'm sure some people justify iCloud+ for work related activities. Music for their commutes, and perhaps ATV+ and AA along with that for those that take public/mass transit. Fitness+ can be worth the $$ if it's just the ticket to keep you in shape.
