What would suddenly make Apple change it? People don’t ever buy/return MacBook Pros and displays?
I think it would be targeted…. To avoid abuse of the policy on tech such as vision pro

Returns are not completely harmless… they cost the company money… and if they reach ridiculous levels those costs are transferred to other customers as higher general prices.

I predict the returns will be minimal.

Com'on man- get real. All the pessimists who have spent enormous time & energy in every Vpro thread from the first rumor telling the rest of us how stupid this thing is and how "no one will buy one", etc, will now return all 100% of the units that they did NOT buy... and make sure we all know they returned the one(s) they did NOT buy and countless reasons why they returned the one they did NOT buy in this & every subsequent Vpro thread to follow. ;)

If it was shipped start your return on Friday, get your label. I think that gives you another week or so.

I mean ... good for the people returning it?

Like, don't get me wrong. I want what the Vision Pro promises. This device has been on my mind constantly, almost to the point of obsession, ever since I did my in-store demo last weekend. Spatial Computing is obvious a big deal for the future.

But I want the Apple Vision experience in two or three generations when the technology is more mature, the app ecosystem is more robust, and the hardware is more refined. And maybe when they offer a version that doesn't have "Pro" in the name. Because I cannot justify spending a minimum of $3500 (closer to $5000 when you figure in storage upgrades, lens inserts, AppleCare+, and accessories) on this device as it exists today.

So yes, bravo to the people returning the device. And bravo to the people deciding it's worth keeping and using at this stage. It honestly shouldn't matter to us one way or the other, so long as Apple keeps working on making this platform better with each iteration.

I see. They would target Vision Pro over other hardware because it’s more likely to be temporarily purchased merely to experience it?
Honestly, part of me would be tempted to do that if my credit card wouldn't throw a hissy fit over such a stunt. 🤣 Better to "test drive" it at home than a 30-minute guided tour in an Apple Store, right?

I think if the return rate is really bad and suspect abuse like that… they could.

Imagine being any business, and all of a sudden you had a huge percentage of people abusing your returns policy. It would make sense to change the terms of that returns policy in the future.

I think the vast majority of people buying from Apple do not abuse the returns policy… its a small minority. Unfortunately because of what vision pro is… i suspect its attracted a large number of people planning to return.. And under current terms, they have the right to return.

I think it could force Apple to make adjustments to their returns policy for such expensive hardware. Like a restocking fee etc

Especially if they just see people massively abusing a policy whose sole purpose is to give people a peace of mind when spending a big chunk of money... its their to help people make a good choice. I mean they probably have records... and enact a more onerous return policy if you have a history in returning high value items...
please no, that’s going to be a new low from Apple.

I was just thinking about this yesterday. And I was like: Apple’d better not introduce restock fee like many other retailers I would never buy from. If your product is not good, eat it up.

Nothing wrong with returning it. It's a huge financial decision for most people, and I'd imagine many also have families and maybe feel a sense of guilt in keeping a product that didn't completely blow their minds. I'm personally keeping mine and loving it.

It's all highly speculative at the moment but I am curious what % of sold units are were returned.

I think its more likely it would be targeted… like justfor vision pro… maybe if you're a customer who has a history of returning many items.

I buy from some companies who have restock fees… if you're a good customer they will sometimes just waive the fee.

I can understand why businesses do it… some customers return things like crazy. They cost the company and us money in the long run.

Yeah that’s is going to be really really hard. Apple is not like Amazon where they can close your account. If they charge a fee for some people and not others, they could be sued of discrimination.

I'd bet the $3,499 takes into account a higher than normal return rate for Apple hardware. As long as Apple averages even a little profit on each sale, they can afford to keep funding this experiment for a long time. And since they're so far ahead of the competition, why shouldn't they?

lets be honest, for 3500 and having worse features than a 480 headset isnt worth it, apple shouldn't have bothered, nothing apple is doing in the last few years is worth it. just having high res displays doesnt mean its worth the price
I completely agree with you. Since the AirPods Pro, I haven't seen a single "must have" product. They have gotten very lazy with design. They have shifted from a product company, to a service company and it shows. Time for a new leader at the helm.

Yeah, theres no easy answer really…

But one thing for sure… is that people who constantly return items and people who never had an intention of keeping an item cost the customers who keep their items.

A return policy costs money unfortunately :/

Refurbished units are typically discounted ~10%, which still provides a great profit margin.
