had this happen on ios17, once, but remember a few times while on ios16 that I woke up to have to enter my password, just never thought about that it could have rebooted ...

Potentially related—I've had my 15 Pro for almost a month and it still hasn't figured out the Optimized Battery pattern. That is, it charges immediately to 100% and stays there all night, instead of plateauing at 80% until just before I wake up.
Same issue with my 15 Pro Max as well

Interesting bugs. I wonder why it only affects certain people. Mine is on the group "it's just work" so I don't really care about this news. But hey, not commenting just doesn't feel right.

Please Apple: how about a Snow Leopard year or even TWO: bug fixes & refinements instead of glitz & gimmicks? iOS, iPadOS, macOS and tvOS please! Take that time to revive "just works" again.
I'm with you that iOS 17 has been pretty brutal for me (full system lock outs, needed a restore, poor battery, excessive heat, etc) but lets not forget Snow Leopard had a bug that literally deleted your home directory that was patched in like 10.6.2 or something like that.

iPhones shutting off at night is a feature, not a bug. Most people are sleeping at night. The iPhone shutting off at night helps save energy. That's better for the environment. Just another way Apple's helping with the environment and reducing our carbon footprint.
I hate this kind of argument. Much like when Windows would turn on "turn device off to save energy" or "reduce carbon footprint." Good lord.... tell me how many trees I need to plant outside so I can use my computer without having to crank it on the side.

Who cares? Functionality is not so important, right? According to many people on this forum, Tim Cook is doing an excellent job because the important thing for Apple to do is to make sure Cook and his shareholders are making lots of money. Therefore, bugs are not a big deal, right?

(Yes, I'm being sarcastic.)

Many people on this forum don't care about something as helpful as that. In their minds, Tim Cook is doing an excellent job because he is making loads of money for Apple and their shareholders.

In all honesty, I don’t think that feature has EVER worked for me since its inception. Hit or miss on the mac as well.

It’s just greenwash at full display, without truly tackling the biggest offenders or address the real issues. Beating the bush is all powerful individuals and corporations do to make public think they are doing something but in reality it is the complete opposite.

I was having this issue. I could be wrong but it felt like it started with 7.1 Beta 3 and was happening nightly. I read it might be a bug with battery optimization so I fully turned it off and the phone didn't shut off that night. The next day I turned battery optimization back on and it hasn't happened yet, I'm also now running the RC.

Coming from someone who works in a hospital and is required to take call, this could mean my job if the phone were to shut off during the night. All call ins are initiated using the perfect serve app. Luckily, so far my 1 tb 15 pro does not have this issue at this point. Apple needs to address this immediately.

We should all support Apple here and stop buying their crap. That‘ll really help them reduce their carbon footprint.

I agree this is a problem and Apple should address it, but it’s also worth noting that a gap in the battery graph does not necessarily indicate that the phone was off. I experimented by turning my phone off and on again straight away, then not entering my passcode for about two hours. It showed a gap in the battery graph, but the phone was alive and well and waiting for its passcode. I didn’t happen to receive any notifications in that time, which might have registered battery activity. More experimentation required. But it would be good to know for sure if phones really are turning off for hours or just restarting but not registering anything in the log.
