Is it? A vast majority of users aren't having issues, and it's not as if the phone is unusable by any stretch.

Actually, a vast majority of users are having issues. Apple is recognizing them but its been a messy start for 17.

I’ve noticed this happening on my iPhone XS on iOS 17.0.3. It doesn’t happen on my daily driver, an iPhone 13 Pro.

I think it has something to do with charging overnight, because that’s when it happens on my XS.

As I've said previously, I've had this on my iPad and iPhone since iOS 14.
But nobody noticed it until now, it seems.
I wonder, if this existed for so long and nobody complained, how come it only becomes a problem when somebody is posting something on Twitter?

Potentially related—I've had my 15 Pro for almost a month and it still hasn't figured out the Optimized Battery pattern. That is, it charges immediately to 100% and stays there all night, instead of plateauing at 80% until just before I wake up.
Same here

Scott Forstall needs to be rehired.
The Current iOS team is far worse than the Android OS team 😤

I have to say the current iOS looks so cluttered and messy relative to Material You. To be fair to Apple they can release absolute garbage every year and it wouldn't matter, very few if any are going to change their phone.

Coming from someone who works in a hospital and is required to take call, this could mean my job if the phone were to shut off during the night. All call ins are initiated using the perfect serve app. Luckily, so far my 1 tb 15 pro does not have this issue at this point. Apple needs to address this immediately.
on a side note.....OMG I have Dr. Deth as my Doctor.......🤪

I have my iPhone 14 Pro by the side of my bed at night in Standby Mode (i.e. horizontal with the red clock) and a couple of times over the last few weeks I've been woken up in the middle of the night by a blazingly bright white Apple logo shining in my face as my phone's rebooted - and it's not for software updates either.

The only issue I've had with my 15 PM is the WiFi issues with disconnecting etc. Thankfully not seen this switching off issue on mine.

I always turn my phone off at night, while it's connected to my 5W charger.

I'll have to check if it does the opposite, and sneakily turns itself on for a few hours in the middle of the night...

This article is not taking into account that that the final version due to release next week could be a different build than the current RC. So there is still hope.

Please Apple: how about a Snow Leopard year or even TWO: bug fixes & refinements instead of glitz & gimmicks? iOS, iPadOS, macOS and tvOS please! Take that time to revive "just works" again.

On this, I agree with you. The current anual release cycle of operating systems is absolutely crazy, and more detrimental than beneficial. A long term support kinda release, a la Linux, would be extremely welcome on my part.

for me going on sleep mode crashes the ui restorings it, go to settings focus and if it works when you click sleep mode it crashes

That´s because even if the current versions of Mac OS and IOS are, software wise, well behind Apple glory days, they are STILL considerably more intuitive, easy to use, safe and stable than the alternatives, at least for the average joe.

And considering that Windows and Android are in a VERY good shape nowadays, that´s saying something.

Having said that, hardware wise Apple is in great shape today. It´s the software QC and design what have declined.

If your iPhone just reboots, will it show a break in the battery level graph? I've woken up needing to put in my passcode, but never a break in the battery graph. I thought it was just a rando. thing Apple did for security making you put in the passcode once in a while.
There is the routine requirement to periodically re-input your passcode for security, but that's different to this. You can tell the difference by the text that says "you need to input your passcode when your iPhone restarts" rather than the slightly different "you need to input your passcode to unlock your iPhone". People have been seeing the restart prompt or the SIM PIN input in the morning, which means the phone has physically power cycled

* The text is from memory so probably not exactly right, but they are slightly different
