I loved all the plus phones, I have big hands so to me the phone never felt big or clunky.

Watching movies, YouTube videos, etc is a great experience. I don’t want to hear about aspect ratios, it’s absolutly awesome on a plus phone!

Now as for the X, which as I’m writing this I have a huge gripe about why the phone doesn’t spin around upside down while using Apple maps, so I may be a little angry and subjective...lmao

It’s just better on the plus, 6plus, 7plus, 8 plus....it’s just better plain and simple.

However watching videos on the X is fairly good and that’s because of the awesome screen from Sammy, the colors are crisp and the video seems to float on the screen, yea the notch is there, but whatever...it’s not going anywhere so why even bitch?

But all in all, Yes the screen itself measured is bigger in real estate screen size and fit into a smaller device, however the width on the plus is wider and videos and movies will just fit better into the notchless screen.

Which do I like better? Well I’m a few days into the X, do miss my 7plus a little bit, but I don’t think it’s enoigh to sway me from the X and back to a plus.

11plus please!

Form also makes up part of function. X is much easier to hold/use than the + and I have pretty big hands.
I've got big hands too. I'm not doubting that the X is comfortable to hold. It is. Mostly. Just different from what I'm used to especially two handed use and typing.

But when I open up MR I'm thinking "where's the rest of the webpage"?

Movies (as in, actual movies) are bigger on the X.

They're not if you're comparing it against the Plus.

I have my X and 6S Plus side by side right now trying to decide the the X is acceptable to me and the Plus is larger.

ETA: Definitely bigger on the Plus but as far as size goes it's not a deal breaker for movies on my iTunes accounts. I don't like how movies do not automatically play in landscape mode on the X but does so on the Plus.

I am definitely more concerned about how much content is displayed on webpages than I am movies.

I’m talking about cinema movies, with a very wide aspect ratio. You lost the notch, but they are definitely larger.
Bring up a movie trailer on YouTube on both phones and zoom in.

I prefer not to zoom in on the X as I hate cropping content.

Watch a video in default “Fullscreen” landscape mode on an x and compare it to the default full screen landscape mode on a plus and it is not even close how much bigger the plus screen actually is in any way you’d actually use it.

Also in standard full screen mode on the x guess what what you get on the left and right of the video? 2 thick bezel like black bars which definitely remind me of the non plus phones.

For me, its nearly the same size in a form factor that's virtually the size of the 8 (or 7, or 6) and so I''m happy with the display size. YMMV and I can understand that people who had the plus going to the X having more of an adjustment (larger to smaller is always a bigger adjustment).

Yeah this is what I mean about feature films/movies being bigger on the X.

You know Apple are going to release the XS next year with a Plus model which will have the same footprint as the current Plus line but be edge to edge. Now that will be awesome lol. So I predict we will only have to put up with the smaller screen for a year.

Again, like a previous post I made: it depends on the content, very specifically the ratio. Most modern film is in 2.35:1, an X is ~2.2:1 a Plus is ~1.78:1

This means that if you don't zoom, don't crop any content, and use the most width you can that also does not truncate the top/bottom, the X is at least the same. It's the reason your huge 16:9 ratio television gets massive black bars on the top and bottom - the content goes as wide as necessary and scale the top-to-bottom to keep the appropriate aspect ratio.

[edit]

Holy smokes, hahaha, someone posted some relevant content while my original post was just sitting here :

Yes.

I mean, I literally ran a few movies on the X and Plus, right next to each other, and clearly the content was the same size - this was in the correct ratio, no clipping, no notch space used.

But aren't films/movies usually presented in a 16:9 format? Why would you pick 2:35:1 if that's not the native format?

ETA: just did some reason and cinemas do indeed run 2.35:1-ish and HD TVs/displays are 16:9.
16:9 tends to be used for television movies and shows. The more dramatic aspect ratios are being used for cinema style films. Check out Wonder Woman trailer, as the first one that popped up for me in the TV app.

If you like walking around with phat tablets in your pocket yeah.

They're at least the same size from my test (and the X looks a touch wider, though my photo isn't the best, the angle is a little off):

Really?

Native, no zooming or cropping.

Your WW video has some black area to the sides (you can tell from the little video logo), not sure what that's about[?]

User error. Double tap iPhone X video to make it fulls screen.

Not user error. That crops the movie on the X. Not acceptable (to me).

Though in this case there’s clearly room in all directions.

Wonder Woman is 2:39.1 though. So not the “standard” 2:35.1.

I just fired up Air Force One on the iPhone X, and it’s either quite small, or filled to fit the whole screen including the notch. Odd there’s no option to fill the screen but not include the notch, but that’s clearly part of Apple’s desire to embrace the notch at all times.

Sigh.

Yeah, look, I mean, I realize this is _very_ unscientific, but here's my X over @Technarchy's X (scaled to where the devices are roughly the same size), and you can see my John Wick 2, running full width, not cropped comes completely to the very bottom of the notch, and matches the other end symmetrically, his is clearly not optimizing the available space:

It almost seems like that dingus logo is creating a "false bezel", THEN the movie is scaling from there.
