If it was not the same design how would they have the case posted for iPhone 4 or iPhone 5? Last I checked you can't use a iPhone 3GS case for iPhone 4 so it would have to be at least close enough to share the same case.

because it shares the same dimensions and the metal rim is recessed from the glass (leaving a gap in the case with the iphone4)? it's not that hard to use some of my brain cells you know.

case manufacturers arent going to round the back if there isnt a particular reason to do it :rolleyes:

Surely this wont actually be called the iPhone 5 for production, it'll be the iPhone4 or something similar keeping the '4' in the mix.

If you think about it, we've got:

iPhone 1
iPhone 2 (aka iPhone 3g)
iPhone 3 (aka iPhone 3gs)
iPhone 4

Logic would dictate that the yearly refresh goes as follows:
2010: Major (iP4)
2011: Minor (iP4S)
2012: Major (iP5)
2013: Minor (iP5S)
etc

If a major refresh was done every year it'd mean the iPhone has a very short lifespan left...theres only so much you can do in a year and it'd just end up becoming a very disappointing product.

They'll call it the iPhone5 because it's the 5th generation device and has the A5 processor. No more 3GS naming scheme snafus (I own a 3GS, love it but the name is stupid).

Bet on it.

Yeah the next generation will be the iPhone 5. The following year when they add LTE it will be the iPhone 4G. :D

Agreed

I think this will be the iPhone 4s or 4gs with a larger 3,7" screen, A5 cpu, both cdma/3g and probably a 64gb version... Same design of iPhone 4.

I would tend to agree with you on that. The LTE version will hit in 2012. Hoping for a $99 iPhone 4 8GB like the current 3GS. That would be a win for my Wife and I as we are looking to make the move to iPhones hopefully this year.
I think we might see them expand to Sprint and T-Mobile provided the merger is just a rumor.

There's a problem with the mock up.

The only problem with the mock is the it doesn't include the extra incision near the top corner of the right side of the antenna:confused:. The is currently found on the Verizon iPhone:apple:. The extra incision was there to help with the drop call issues. I don't that Apple:apple: is going to back track to a design that had imperfections. I agree with everything else except for the mock up and the mock up is unreliable and should be removed. :apple:

I'm more excited about what iOS 5 has to bring .....Im satisfied with my iPad 2 and iPhone 4 for this year

This is one of my problems with buying an iPad 2 when I really only have the budget for one iOS device a year. Pretty soon the iPhone fever will start, people will forget about the iPad, and in 4 months the threads in the iPad forum will start that say "do you now regret having an iPad considering the iPhone has everything it has and more?"

That being said, for people with cash to burn, I am envious. Having an iPad 2 and an iPhone 5 is obviously the optimal situation.

Details about the iPhone 5!

I've heard from someone who knows some person who is testing the iphone 5 prototype. he has one with a keyboard on it. It is likely the keyboard will not be present on the iphone 5 when it get launched.

So, the Iphone 5 without the keyboard is going to be:
Same design as the iphone 4 but it is some millimeters thinner, new antenna design; the three antenna's will be placed in the top right corner instead on the bottom like the iphone 4.

And of course: A next generation chipset.

No words on a bigger screen.

Gonna put a case on it anyway.

For the last time, I don't need it to look nice. I just need it to be able to turn on my car from across the friggin country.

:D

Doesn't matter I'll be upgrading

Currently have iP4. Would appreciate a slightly larger screen for typing in landscape, but nothing too crazy like HTC EVO/Android whatever. And yes, I'll take one in white (if the iPad 2 is any indication that the white paint issue has been resolved finally).

Oh so you just summed up all of the rumors for us, and say you personally know this? Cool good job.

Hit and miss

Case designs certainly have been hit and miss. I saw silicone cases for the iPod touch on sale in Best Buy before the 2nd gen was on sale that had a camera hole in the middle of the top edge. Not where it turned out to be, but someone at the case maker obviously believed what they'd been told and thought they were getting a jump on the competition to have their cases available early.

I think they will have to do something with the antenna. Too much bad press and perception out there, regardless of truth. ATT gives me an upgrade every year so I will be getting it regardless. Although the iPhone 4 is gorgeous I would hope it would be slightly more durable. Also 64 gb would be a nice touch.
With the ever changing smartphone market I would think Apple would want to keep up. Especially since we probably won't see LTE until 2012, we need to see something big. Unless they do some revolutionary software update they will need to improve on design. Just my 2 cents

If the iPhone 5 is the same form factor as the iPhone 4. I'm glad that it is then because that would mean a really big change to come for the iPhone 6th generation and a good time to upgrade for all the iPhone 4 users because of the 2 year contract ending.

Love the iPhone 4 design - and that way I also won't be upset since I am on a 2 year upgrade cycle and I already have the iPhone4 - so iPhone6 is my next one.

Why do you guys think Apple should innovate for only the iphone4 users on 2 year contracts that fall on 2008, 2010, 2012, 2014 etc only? Just so you as a group of Apple consumers won't be upset when the next generation comes out?

The iPhone 4 looks great and considering the 3G design stayed for two years it would not be surprising that the current look did the same.

Don't do it Apple. Same form factor just shows you've run out of ideas. 5 years and 5 generations with the same design is not good.

You'll lose at least one iPhone customer.

(Me)

how is it 5 years with the same design? there have been 4 phones, with 3 completely different designs.....if you mean sleek, volume buttons, lock button and home screen....those are all essential buttons and most likely will never leave....apple would do fine with out a customer like your self

I wouldn't mind it staying the same. I like the iPhone 4 design.

I'll say it again boys and girls. It is not the iPhone 5, it is called the iPhone 4G. The real iPhone 5 is not til spring / summer of 2012.

1st Generation: iPhone and iPhone 3G
2nd Generation: iPhone 3Gs
3rd Generation: iPhone 4
4th Generation: iPhone ?
