Of course iPhone 5 will be basically same as iPhone 4 same as iPad 1 and 2. Few little tweaks here and there and apple nerds go mad. Love apple stuff but too sensible to get hooked on this never ending upgrade thing

No offense, but upgrades is what happens. Can't stay with the current product forever. Does not mean you have to buy every upgrade, but it's normal for all companies to make upgrades at least once a year.

Thing is, Apple tends to make the upgrades enticing enough that it's hard to resist. But the iPhone 5 I'll probably not worry about because the 4 I have is still a killer phone, so I'll probably hold out for 6.

Yeah they shouldn't not release a better product just because some customers will feel left out while others who can get the upgrade or switch to the new version can/are willing to.

Also, am I the only one that things the inside of this looks more curved than most of the iPhone 4 cases? it's not a curved device ... maybe the 5 will be slightly?

I'm not getting a new iPhone until 6th gen in July 2012, two years after my iPhone 4, but I can't resist chiming in because, face it, we all love rumors, that's why we're on a site called MacRUMORS.

iPhone (5th generation):
Specs:
Apple A5 0.88GHz Dual-Core processor with 512MB RAM
7MP camera with flash, plus 720p video
Front-facing 540p camera for FaceTime
960x640 "Retina" Display
10-hour battery
GSM/CDMA World Mode

Form Factor:
Either iPhone 4 design OR iPad 2 inspired design
8.8 millimeters thick to match iPad 2

Availability:
6 versions available "from day one" ;) :
16GB Black: $169 with contract
16GB White: $169 with contract
32GB Black: $269 with contract
32GB White: $269 with contract
64GB Black: $399 with contract
64GB White: $399 with contract

As for the name, I would like Apple to simply brand it iPhone.

I never liked numbering, and never referred to iPad 2 by that name until it was confirmed.

In simply using the moniker "iPhone", versions would be distinguished in literature like this.

1st Generation: "iPhone (1st gen)"
2nd Generation: "iPhone 3G"
3rd Generation: "iPhone 3Gs"
4th Generation: "iPhone 4"
5th Generation: "iPhone (5th gen)"

geez.. you didn't think apple was going to keep innovating did you? After a 1.0 release, that ship sails...

Now it's all about money through small refreshes and rehashes (vPhone and some dumb white iphone4 dropping shortly).

$teve Job$ bashed larger screens on phones, therefore his huge ego won't allow him to let engineers put a larger screen in any iphone from here on out.

Uh. He also said people don't read anymore. Then came out with the iPad.

Well I currently have a 3GS and really like the iPhone 4's design so I'd be more than happy.

I'm going to be upgrading (first time to a smartphone - yay) this year... The ONLY thing I want is a 4" + screen... man fingers are useless on a small screen...

A bit annoying that I'm looking at purchasing in the "minor upgrade" year, because I'd probably keep the phone for two years, and THEN it will prob be the 6Gs.

I think they'll call it the iPhone 5 -- I would like it if they called it iPhone V

They'll call it iPhone 5 because last year it seemed like they wanted to keep it all in sync - i.e. iPhone 4 with iOS 4.... This year I think it will be iPhone 5 with iOS 5.

Does Verizon/AT&T not offer 1-year contracts? It makes no sense that they offer all the new Android and Blackberry phones with the option of a 1-year contract for $70 more but don't do the same for the iPhone.

The iPhone 4 is already the perfect size. I don't really see a way it can get any smaller without things like screen size and battery life getting worse.

Iphone 5 should be thinner like Ipod Touch

Iphone 5 should be thinner like Ipod Touch. Apple should really work hard at trying to create a solar panelled side to slowly recharge.

I'd love a 4" screen and LTE, but I'd settle for just 64 GB.

But I don't think I'll get any of those though in iPhone 5. :(

I bet Apple is settling into a two year fom factor pattern. 3G -> 3GS, no change in form factor. 4 -> 5, no form factor change. In the interim, spec bumps.

More like 4 -> 4G this year.

Then spring summer of 2012, 4G -> 5 my friend.

I'd love a 4 inch screen as well. After doing a little measuring, Apple could extend the 3.5 inch screen out to ~3.75...half way to the 4 inch many are lusting after.

Just enough to make it different. Why not?

Haha i want a 4-in iPhone, but one of those 'monster phone' (droid x and evo) form factors (just iphone 4/ipad 2 thinness, or better yet, ipod touch 4th gen thinness) would be amazing. I really hope they at least have an option for it, but its not really a dealbreaker for me, as im already probably going to get it anyways. A brushed aluminum look would be cool, but the glass looks amazing already. Hopefully they fix the antenna. The a5 is a no brainer, as is probably more ram. Maybe more memory, bit i wouldnt need it anyways. I also cant wait to see the "one more thing" feature. Other than that, i just want a better facetime camera and 1080p video (which is an ios limitation, so ios 5 please apple). This would be a killer phone with those features!

I read somewhere, I cannot remember where, that the 5 is supposed to have an aluminum back. If that is the case, then you will most definitely see a curve.

*facepalm*

It's frightening that you run a tech blog.

Agreed. *facepalm*
I've had enough of people saying the iPhone 3G to iPhone 3GS upgrade was "minor", and so the iPhone 4 to the "iPhone 4GS" (don't know where they got that name from) will be minor too.
It's so sad to see distorted views that people have, just because they want to feel better about having a year old device.
From reading this thread, i noticed that to people a major upgrade = if externals change. It's pretty pathetic, imo. You can't reason with such people.

Btw MacRumors, there's already a topic about it : https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/1118514/ ;)
