If anything, the newer material presumably can be thinner, meaning it help minimize the additional thickness.

Thinner iPhones are stupid and compromising user experience at this stage. Apple promoting thinner as a feature is something only the naive believe.

Camera bump, bad
Weak battery life, bad
Bending, bad

The camera bothers you that much? I have my 6 in one of Apple's silicon cases and the protruding camera is hardly even noticeable. Btw, according to Business Insider Jony Ive hates the protruding camera so I'm sure of there's a way to get rid of it without degrading the camera they'll do it.

Not everyone uses a case. They want to enjoy the actual profile of the phone and few things (such as protruding camera) may bother them.

it's been confirmed COUNTLESS times that the A9 chip will contain 2GB of LPDDR4 RAM

I'll belive it when it's confirmed with a real product. At this stage I expect Apple to release underspecced products that compromise customer satisfaction and user experience for the sake of margins.

Apple did acquire technology to combine the screen with the TouchID. This could mean that they will eventually eliminate the home screen, but who knows. I think that if they did that, they could increase screen real estate without increasing phone size. And IMO, that would be a good thing - any bigger and we will be talking on our ipad mini's.
But nobody is expecting Apple to do that this year.

I'm using a 4S. I hate it and want to upgrade. But my fear is the lightning connector will change to a USB-C by the iPhone 7. Anyone have thoughts on that? Heck if the connectors will all change to USB-C I would love to upgrade my iMac, iPad, and iPhones all at the same time.
Even if they do use USB C on the device side, does not mean they will also put USB C on the charger end. It might be a while before USB C fully takes over as USB A is not going away anytime soon, there must be billions of USB A chargers in the wild.

Yup, bothers me enough not to buy it. That and the antenna breaks. For a company that are all about aesthetics, (apparently), the 6 is a travesty.

There is an easy way to get rid of it. A thicker phone. I’d prefer that.
Well my phone is in a black case so I don't see the antenna lines. And the camera bump is hardly noticeable. But then again I don't buy an iPhone just for the aesthetics.

You may think so, but some people, myself included like the thinness. I remember picking up an iPod Touch when I was used to an iPhone 4 and loving it.

That's not to say that's it's worth compromising other factors - I personally would make it as thick as it needs to be to fit the thickest of the components in (so no camera bump).

I don't care about longer battery though - one day is fine for me. I don't think you really have a user experience improvement going over that until you get to around the one week mark, that's when you can really start to alter your attitude to charging habits.

Bending is an engineering challenge, certainly, but one that I imagine can be resolved.

Just thought about the iPad 3 after reading the article. Last time Apple went thicker they created a bastard product that was replaced 6 months later. :-/
More the reason to skip the 6S I think.
It wasn't replaced because of the thickness it was replaced because the A5X didn't cut it.

I don't love the protruding camera (and apparently neither does Jony Ive) but it certainly wouldn't be the deciding factor on whether I buy an iPhone or not.

Right because compromising customer satisfaction leads to more sales...

They've stopped with the thinner mantra? Is nothing sacred?;)

He's not. He CDO now.

Have they retired Jony, by giving him an empty title and removing his underlings? Seems like he's now a figurehead whose main role is to draw $$$ with his celebrity status. He's the Royal Family of Apple, Inc.:p

I kid, I kid. Jony is a smart man. He knows people have been ridiculing the "thinner and thinner" mantra for years now. I'm hoping to see a radical redesign from Sir Ives to remind us why he is a giant in the design industry.

I haven't felt like my user experience has been compromised.

Camera bump, case that evens it out
Weak battery life, my 6 battery is worlds better than my old iPhone 4. 16 hours average.
Bending, has not bent at all even in skinny jeans without the case

It is not a deciding factor for me either. I was just saying that mentioning the use of a case to someone who is bothered by the protruding camera is not a solution.

Did anyone expect the home button to be removed? Why is that even part of the headline?

I expect it to go away at some point. It's a physical weak point and they could emulate the functionality with Touch ID.

My underwear is hidden under my trousers but I don’t buy yellow and brown Y fronts. Purely because of the colour.

Little bug-bear of mine, but that's I wouldn't call that a schematic! It's a design draft, mechanical design drawing, mechanical sketc, take your pick. Schematics are symbolic representations of a system, such as this:
