PwnageTool 4.0 is out!!!!

So, I have 3.1.2 jailbroken with baseband, 5.12.01. I got my iPhone 3GS on release day last year so I'm guessing I have the old bootrom. But I also want to unlock mine because I am selling it to a Canadian friend. Will upgrading to iOS 4.0 still allow me to unlock with the new ultrasnow 0.93?

Update: Do I not select enable baseband upgrade on PwnageTool 4.0? Right?

Yes. You must first downgrade to 3.1.2 or earlier and jailbreak that firmware with redsn0w. Then you can do an option-restore to a custom 4.0 firmware created with PwnageTool.

Save yourself some time and don't bother syncing after you downgrade to 3.1.2. Just set up as a new phone and then jailbreak. You're only there to get your phone pwned anyway.

Thanks for the help. With the files stored on Cydia, and my not having access to Cydia on my device, will I be able to downgrade to 3.1.2? I thought I read that if you try to downgrade to 3.1.2 Apple won't authenticate via iTunes 9.1/9.2.

You need to edit your hosts file to point to saurik's server so that the signature request will go there instead of Apple. Instructions can be found here.

6. Open iTunes and hold the Option button while clicking on the Restore button in iTunes.
7. Select your custom firmware and let iTunes do its thing.

The restore took about 5 minutes to complete. Restoring from a backup is taking an hour.

Try This (copied from a message someone posted over at iClarified). Worked for me:

I kept getting the 1600 Error while doing this. I searched around and found this fix which seemed to work... open a terminal window type the following: sudo mkdir /Library/iTunes/"Device Support" *Note that the quotation marks are very important! If that directory already exists, navigate to it and delete the contents. Now run PwnageTool again and rebuild your ipsw. Also, the tutorial for how to get the phone into RECOVERY mode is wrong. Following those instructions will put your phone into DFU mode. To get the phone into RECOVERY mode. Disconnect the phone from your computer, power it down. Then hold down the HOME button and (without letting go of the home button) plug in the sync cable. As soon as the phone powers on and itunes sees it, it will go into RECOVERY mode, then you can let go of the button. Everything seemed to go smoothly after these steps. Cydia is installed and itunes is now restoring from my last backup :)
 
i have been searching online for many hours please help.

I have 3gs 3.1.3 with older bootroom and jailbreak with spirit ...how can I get ios4 unlocked?

I take it you don't have blobs on file for 3.1.2?

You can only do it if you have previous SHSH saved and can downgrade to 3.1.2 or earlier. Then jailbreak with redsn0w, upgrade to 4.0 using PwnageTool, and unlock with ultrasn0w .93.

If you do not have SHSH on file and cannot downgrade, then there is no way for you to go to 4.0 jailbroken or unlocked.

I thought you can downgrade the firmware not the baseband.
 
Help! No service..

So the JB went smoothly, but now I have no service.

Anyone else have this happen? Any Ideas?

I have jailbroken my iPhone 3GS 05.13.04 with iBoot-359.3.2 from iOS 4.0 GM to 3.1.3 and copied my SHSH file to Cydia and my desktop. I've been told that I can not jailbreak my iPhone as the iBoot is the new one, and that 3.1.3 is the highest I can go. Is this true at the moment? There is nothing I can do with the files I have, etc. to get a jailbroken iOS4 on my 3GS? Thanks!
 
Can anyone tell me if i can jailbreak. I have a 3gs and I am currently on 4.0. I would really like to be able to tether again.

If you want to remain JB'n then yes 3.1.3 is the highest you can go.

But the restore worked (I have no gain in lying about it) ... And no SHSH on file or on the server from Cydia.

Anyway ... I'm running the ios4 now and happy with it ... UltraSn0w works great too.

Keep up with DevTeam blogs. As new tools come out, you'll find them there. Unless they have a jailbreak for your particular model/bootrom, then stay where you're at.

Bummer as I was hoping to sell my 3GS which is a month old jailbroken and unlocked (if possible) with 4.0 to cover the cost of an iPhone 4. Time will tell. Thanks for your help!

It is a possibility in the coming days there might be something out there for you but even then it might not work for the new bootroms. Depends on how much of a rush you are in I guess.

Not much, just want to strike while the iron is hot. Figured I could get more $$$ for an unlocked or even jailbroken iPhone 3GS before the iPhone 4 launch, or even a little while after the launch.

Well no one is going to release anything until they test on the new phone, not sure if any of them was able to get their hand on them today or not..
