1. Connect your 3GS to your Mac and put it into DFU mode.
2. On your Mac, click the Apple Logo in the upper left corner.
3. Click About this Mac - More info...
4. Click Hardware - USB - USB High Speed Bus - Apple Mobile Device (DFU mode)
5. Look for the iBoot version under the Serial Number.
6. If the iBoot version is 359.3.2 or higher, you have the new one that can't be JBed (yet)

Bummer! Bootloader 359.3.x hasn't been able to be jailbroken for a while now on 3GS models. Any one have any best guess as to when it may be jailbroken? I was hoping to sell my iPhone 3GS that is only a month old jailbroken and hopefully unlocked as the funds would be used to purchase the iPhone 4.

Thanks! Happy jailbreaking! :)

You can jailbreak with Spirit and unlock with ultrasn0w as long as you don't upgrade to 4.0.

If your on a 3GS device on 4.0 with the old bootloader; that has been at some point JB with pwnage... Then why do you need to go down to 3.2, just to go back up?

The Dev team's post said "has been jailbroken" not Is Jailbroken.

What am I missing here?

I jailbroke using Spirit but my boot loader is older can I proceed with iOS4 and unlock it?

thanks for help

Unfortunately I upgraded to iOS 4, with firmware 05.13.04 and iBoot-359.3.2, seems I'm screwed until there is an official jailbreak for my situation

I did jailbreak it with 3.1.3 and saved my SHSH file to Cydia and onto my desktop. Would this be beneficial in jailbreaking it for iOS4?

On my 3gs, I am running OS4.0 (public release), but I have never jailbroken my phone with Pwnage Tool. I tried to jailbreak with this 4.0 version of Pwnage tools, but i kept getting 1600 and 1604 errors....

So is that happening because I never used pwnage tools in the past? Im so lost and i even had to restore my phone because it was stuck in recovery mode

ps. I tried in recovery mode, normal mode, and DFU mode. neither worked. bootrom is 359.3

You can't jailbreak iOS4 if you used Spirit. You'll need to re-jailbreak it with redsn0w and then use pwnage tool to update to iOS4

So I have my 3gs jb with 3.0.1 with baseband 4.26.08. If I jb using this, will my baseband be preserved or will it update to the latest one?

Also just got a mac recently but my phone is backed up to a pc. If I update using mac, will it sync with mac iTunes?

Thanks

anyone?, thanks

I have iphone 3GS with old boot rom with I updated to iOS4 and I have never jb it before,
so am I still qualified for JB with using this PwnageTool?

In order to use PwnageTool, your phone must be "pwned" -- it must have its bootloader modified to remove the signature check. This cannot yet be done to a device on 3.1.3 or 4.0 since the 24Kpwn exploit was pached out of the firmware in the 3.1.3 update. This is why the Dev-Team (and everyone else) told everyone NOT to upgrade their phones if they hoped to jailbreak. The 3GS can currently only be pwned at 3.1.2 or below.

As for your grammatical argument, the Dev team is not using jailbroken as an adjective. They are using the present perfect passive form of the verb "jailbreak." Compare the phrase "iOS 4 has been released."

It worked.

After trying several times, I got 4.0 on my 3GS with Pwnagetool.

This is what I did:
1. Update iTunes to 9.2
2. Download Pwnagetool 4.0 - See http://blog.iphone-dev.org/ for link to download.
3. Download 4.0 ipsw from http://www.mobiclue.com/2010/06/ios-4-direct-download-iphone-3g-3gs-ipod-touch-2g-3g-ipsw-links.html
4. Make custom firmware with pwnagetool.
5. Put iPhone into Recovery mode, not DFU mode otherwise you will get 1600 errors. Recovery mode is when you see the iTunes logo. You do not want to see the Apple logo.
6. Open iTunes and hold the Option button while clicking on the Restore button in iTunes.
7. Select your custom firmware and let iTunes do its thing.

The restore took about 5 minutes to complete. Restoring from a backup is taking an hour.

no, you're screwed if you already updated to iOS4 and never jailbroken before, for now

iphone 3GS, 3.1.3, OLD Bootrom, NEVER JB

3gs, OLD Boot, 3.1.3, NEVER Jailbroken

Want to upgrade to 4.0
Jailbreak
Unlock for T-MO

This is where I'm lost

'If you have a Jailbroken iPhone 3GS with the OLD BOOTROM and you DID NOT use Spirit to jailbreak then you can create the ipsw with PwnageTool 4.0 and restore with recovery mode.
If you have an iPhone 3GS with the NEW BOOTROM this is NOT supported by PwnageTool 4.0'

I get that.. BUT

What if:
'If you have a iPhone 3GS "NEVER JAILBROKEN" with the OLD BOOTROM and you DID NOT use Spirit to jailbreak then you can create the ipsw with PwnageTool 4.0 and restore with recovery mode......

What to do!!!

Thanks in Advance

A phone must be currently jailbroken to use PwnageTool, and must have been jailbroken with redsn0w, blackra1n, or PwnageTool.. Unfortunately, since you are at 3.1.3 you cannot jailbreak using any of those tools.

I have itunes 9.2, 3GS, 4.0 GM, and my SHSH are backed up with Cydia. Do I have to downgrade iTunes in order to downgrade my 4.0 GM? I'm just wondering what my options are to get 4.0 jailbroken.

Odd request: Anyone that has a mac, would it be possible to request a custom iOS 4 Ipsw and uploaded to a dropbox?
Plain vanilla customization. Stock load screen, Cydia only, no hactivation needed, ect?
If necessary will offer paypal for time/effort
thanks guys

Ok so some kind advice please. I am running a jailbroken iPhone3G (jailbroken using Pwnage tool). Running 3.1.2 (never updated) and 4.26.08.

I downloaded the 4.0 pwnage tool, created my custom ipsw, and went to restore from my custom ipsw I created. Each time I try to do the restore, I get this meassage.

Any ideas what is causing this?

Just saw your post...I am getting 1600 errors even when in recovery mode (Itunes logo and usb shown on screen) Also got a 2001 error. Ideas? Thanks.

Im confused. I am on iOS4 right now on my 3GS. I have my SHSHs backed up on Cydia for every version since 3.0. Am I able to Jailbreak 4.0 or not?

I currently have an un jailbroken 3gs on 4.0. Can i use this to jailbreak. Just a note I did jailbreak fro awhile back during 3.0

Those who are receiving the 1604 and similar errors should remake their IPSW file again. It's possible that the one you're trying to flash with was corrupted, and won't work when you try to restore. Also try to get into DFU mode through PwnageTool app. It may not work the first time, so keep trying again after you've made the new IPSW, and it should work.
