So in exchange for staying with a carrier for 2 years, a carrier we were already going to be on, they knock 400 dollars off the phone. Yep we are getting duped real bad

Yes because AT&T isn't cheap, it's alot more than Sprint per month. try at least $40 more a month to have AT&T. So yes you are getting duped. A percentage of what you pay each month goes to Apple. It cost Apple $187 to produce an Iphone 4 , and you are getting it for almost cost? yes but you are paying way more for it than $600 over 2 years just in the extra money AT&T is charging you. Yup Yup.

What does that have to do with AT&T? Sprint subsidized your phone as well!?!

Also AT&T may be more expensive but then again AT&T has the iPhone 4 and like they say, you get what you pay for.

BTW because I have a fan discount AT&T costs me less then 20 dollars more a month then Sprint, actually if I downgrade my plan on live on the edge with rollover, it will probably be cheaper then Sprint.

even when 4 phone is dropping calls?

This concept of dropped calls seems to be a US network operator issue rather than an iPhone issue. I have the iPhone4 and have not experienced and dropped calls or reception issues at all. In short the networks and operators here are good and spend money on developing the infrastructure needed rather than just paying out dividends. In short, US networks and the management that run them suck.

Anyone that buys a phone on a subscription contract deserves to be abused and has no one to blame but themselves.

I ended up just reading this entire thread as I couldn't sleep , and I normally don't really post much but had to weigh in here. I think Badandy is spot on in the concept here. I don't get those of you that bash him, read his posts, if you think about it logically, being a pack rat with old iPhones is fiscally irresponsible, not only that but it prevents the use of non obsolete equipment still being used until its demise.

Simply put I'm in the camp that says buying a 3GS at this point in time is foolish and a bad use of your money. Skiltrip nailed as most iPhone users are not (nor shouldn't be) penny pinchers, so there is no reason to save the $100 when your committing yourself well over $1000 in a cell product/service. In the long run, your better off financially, and during the whole process you get to use a much more feature rich phone. Hell, if I was getting iPhones for my whole family, I'd get the iPhone 4 for facetime for everyone alone.

That's what I'm kinda boggled at the people still insisting that there is a place for the iPhone 3GS. I say can it :D

I think spending on a 3GS you won't use is a waste of money. The same way I think spending an extra $100 on features you won't use is a waste of money. Sure you can get that $100 back on the resale but think of what you can do with it now.

Btw, I don't get the logic of having 3 active phone lines that you pay a monthly fee on just to have three phones. You'll never get the line rental fee back.

Actually the total commitment was only $360 since my wife only needed at 200mb plan. After looking at my iPhone 4, she liked the 3GS better. She didn't care about the extra features as it already blew her old cell away.

But money wasn't even the driving decision, after 16 years of marriage I realized dad gave me sage advice after our wedding. It's a lot better to get her 'what she really wants' vs what I think she should want. ;)

There is also no worry about the antena with the 3GS.

I disagree with that. My iphone 3GS drops signal when held to pretty much exactly the same degree as my iphone 4 (neither is that bad, maybe a bar or two in a weak coverage area. neither will lose all signal unless it was one or two bars to start with.).

So AT&T has the iPhone 4? So? I'm talking about service at a good price here. A jailbreak can put that iPhone over on Sprint easy. I get a work discount at AT&T 20 percent off and the bill is still way to high still more than Sprint without a discount, I found out later I get 25% off Sprint :(

Most people don't get discounts though, and yes Sprint is cheaper and just as good as AT&T... All the extra money AT&T charge isn't worth what you pay for it, not even with the defective crap iphone 4.
