Quite the contrary. You have a 4,1. Which is identical to the 5,1. Flash the 5,1 firmware on it, and install a 6-core CPU.
This is the system ~90% of the users (myself included) own in the Mac Pro forum. The MP forum is the only forum aside from this one that actually has a lot of good, useful knowledge provided by intelligent people.
needing to spend a lot of money on metal capable cards.
Thank you. I just try to help. Right off the top of my head I can think of several people here far more knowledgeable than I, but I do appreciate the kind thought.Nice find! I was thinking about one myself, but I am more of a laptop guy.

You know, this might motivate me to finally get a Mac Pro
The question is what model though... Probably a 2008 model so I can offload some of the music production duties of my MacBook onto a more powerful machine, but we'll just have to see what comes forth.
I am still hoping that eventually someone will make an SSE4.x emulator for these things. We've got an SSE4.2 emulator for the 3,1 for AMD GPUs. Nonetheless, 1,1/2,1s are still decent machines for sure. They run Windows 10 like a dream if you're into that. I'm sure linux is another good option. Though I'd imagine 10.11 is still pretty usable since in retrospective it really isn't old at all. Forced obsolescence...I am a fan of my lowly 1,1 quad core 3ghz (woodcrest). I definitely enjoy it but it is tied to ElCap. I picked this up back in 2017 for something stupid like 50 bucks on CL.

I Highly recommend you search one out. They make great DAWs in the same way a DC or Quad PMG5 can and if you keep an eye out, you'll undoubtedly run into one for cheap. I see folks dropping 1,1s very cheap considering their OS limitations but as a DAW that would not matter much.
Awesome! I'm glad to hear thatThank you. I just try to help. Right off the top of my head I can think of several people here far more knowledgeable than I, but I do appreciate the kind thought.
It was @LightBulbFun that found it for me, so the credit goes to him. I usually consult him since he's pretty good at finding stuff for less $$$$ on eBay. And he had advice (@bunnspecial too) on what to get.
Anyway, no intent to go anywhere. I still have old Macs (my G3 is my server) and they are all still used. Even if I didn't, I'd still stick around to help where I could.

Ok, thanks for the info! My MacBook5,2 is officially tied to 10.11, so it won't be much of a change at allI am a fan of my lowly 1,1 quad core 3ghz (woodcrest). I definitely enjoy it but it is tied to ElCap. I picked this up back in 2017 for something stupid like 50 bucks on CL.

I use it as my main and it's perfectly usableI am still hoping that eventually someone will make an SSE4.x emulator for these things. We've got an SSE4.2 emulator for the 3,1 for AMD GPUs. browsers are useless
I wouldn't go as far as that - ArcticFox covers 99% - much respect to @wicknixFor the gaps I have Intel TFF, TSF, Chrome and Win 8.
LOL! Externally it will seem no different except that one Mac sitting above the other (in the pics I have of my setup) will have gained one optical drive slot.Congrats on the purchase! It'll be weird to see you on a newer-than-PowerPC Mac as your daily driver.
Mojave is a pretty great OS. I'm still using it on my 2012 MacBook Air, and it does everything I need it to! Let us know how you like running a newer OS and machine as a daily computer!![]()

Beautiful machine! Congrats on the purchase!![]()
My DD is a 1,1 with Snow Leopard - full web compatibility can be problematic

Is upgrading to a newer version of OS X not an option?
I had Lion on it originally with frequent kernel panics - rather than hunting the problem down I put SL on - and felt a speed hike.
Just for the record, should you ever find yourself in the spot - Adobe CS4 will work up to Sierra. High Sierra and above breaks it. It will run and you can actually 'use' it on anything higher than Sierra, you just can't SEE anything as it's all blank windows.I had Lion on it originally with frequent kernel panics - rather than hunting the problem down I put SL on - and felt a speed hike.
I'm reluctant to shoehorn an unsupported OS on it as I suspect it will break Adobe CS3.
Hence "officially"It can go higher though.
