Seriously though, your anecdote is a single data point. Ookla averaged millions of data points with millions of variable circumstances. 2.8 million unique users. 12.4 million tests. 520 million data points. Li'l bit of a difference there.
 
Apple fans choose to ignore that very fact. I cant even use an Apple phone at my work if i wanted to, people get no reception with them, even on my S9 i only get 1 bar of 4G. But having bad reception is no big deal hey Apple fans :rolleyes:

What do I care about data points or averages. That’s why I get on an intel modem, 130Mbps.

Your anecdotal speeds aren't indicative of the averages expressed in the Ookla survey. You can't extrapolate any relevancy from your 130Mbps other than that's what you get. It bears no larger consequence. Now if your goal was just to say I get 130Mbps, then you achieved that. If your goal was to use your speed as some sort of comparative...

The averages expressed in the ookla survey were used by Qualcomm to show superiority over the intel modem.


By reading most of the posts in this thread it would seem to suggest that the intel modem is less than. It’s not. It’s the network.

The phone is more than capable.
 
Slightly faster LTE, yet CPU performance still gets utterly spanked by the A-series chips. I know what I'd prefer.
Figures ranging from 23% all the way up to 192% cannot be described as slightly faster, to use your words, they spanked.

How exactly does a single screenshot of a speed test from just an iPhone prove anything? There are far to many variables in play here. At the very least you need a speed test with a phone using the QC radio to compare to from the same location where you did the test. Even better go to an area with very bad reception and compare the 2 ;)

It proves the intel modem can achieve speeds that are higher than the posted Qualcomm averages.

I’m in London, ee pretty much blanketed the city in lte-a, this is the bad reception area

Well of course an iphone with the Intel radio will be able to achive a one off speed test above the average of the QC. Do you understand how averages work? There will be results faster and slower then that average. Anyway it's already proven the QC is the better radio, there is nothing to argue here, Apple are using software to gimp the iPhones with the QC radio to bring it in line with the Intel radios. Apple has a clearly superior CPU so you win some you lose some.

Not just theoretical buddy, go and check out any of the comparison vids on you tube, the QC is actually 20 percent and in some cases even faster under the same network conditions. But i know it really hurts you to admit when Apple do anything worse then the competition so I'm not suprised with your response.

Here's one from unbox therapy


We only have the Intel chip in the iPhones in the UK and we have the Exynos processor in Samsung phones so we don't get the benefits of a Qualcomm processor anyway.

I was quoting percentages from the article, not mbps. And the article was doing a comparison of like for like between Samsung and Apple on the same server at the same time.

I don't know what modem is in my iPhone, regardless of which it is, it will be the same speed, because Apple throttle the qualcom one to match.

In the video I saw from unbox therapy, Samsung was faster than Google which was faster than Apple.

Yes, as I was saying negligible worldwide differences between the Qualcomm and the intel modem.

Now the 2018 iPhone X plus will be compared to the 2018 s9 with the Qualcomm modem when it’s released in the fall, but as the video pointed out the s9 only offered a 26% increase over the 2017 model.

The 2017 iPhone is capable of more as long as the network can deliver.
