A TLDR at the end isn’t all that useful since by the time you’ve seen it, you’re pretty much through the post.

Reasonable points though.

I think it's hypocritically hysterical that there's loads of mockery citing exploding android phones that skip right past this part of the article.

Also skipping that this standard has already existed and is not responsible for exploding phones...

And if we *really* want to poke fun: keep in mind that it was apple recently who "tried" to develop this little known thing called AirPower, repeatedly failed, and then scrapped it after it already went public that it was an upcoming product.

Meanwhile, Apple was the company that for many, many years kept delivering 5w power chargers, only *very recently* started including stronger chargers in the higher tier models, only to be rumored to be axing that entirely.

Despite this, one can go on Amazon and purchase mutli-port PD chargers with USB-C and USB-A ports for charging multiple devices quickly, and inexpensively, while being well built. The new one is they're all developing reliable 100W PD chargers that are significantly cheaper than Apple's bricks.

tl;dr y'all are laughing in the wrong direction.

wow? What a way to get a hot phone.
Wow!? I only need my 18 watt charger.
Wow!? I only need to charge my phone at night.
Wow! That sounds like a lot of heat?

It’s starting to piss me off reading this forum full of zealots. I bet ya’ll will be ordering the apple version of super quick charger If they ever release one.

Tried a mat for my iPhone XS; went back to wired charging. I don’t understand the ‘convenience’ of it, it still requires a cable and a plug... I’d rather just insert the Lightning connector and get faster charging.
In most cases I do not require faster charging, so I’m perfectly fine with charging overnight. And in those rare cases, where I would need faster charging, I can still plug in a cable.

The convenience, however, of simply laying down the phone to have it charging, is something I experience every single day. I just learned the hard way just how much I do like that convenience: Going from a 2017 iPad Pro to a 2020 one means plugging in a cable again. And finding that dreaded charging port in dimmed lighting conditions.

With the 2017 iPad Pro I could simply place it onto the Logitech Base charging station, have it magnetically aligned and charge away. No fuss!

Pity that Apple moved those connector pins on newer iPad Pros and Logitech did not update the Base station accordingly ... :-(

It literally says in the article it’s reducing the temperature by 10° C compared to other technologies.

I miss the days when Apple led the market with innovation.
It said the phone will be 10 C cooler, or the charger? I'm pretty sure it's the charger, but correct me if I'm wrong.

Curious to see what the battery degradation long term will be like.

IIRC Oppo did a 75w fast charge, but they said you’d lose something like 30% of capacity in a year.

My XR is from release and still at 100% capacity.

meh- barking up the wrong tree.

Just give us USER SWAPPABLE BATTERIES like all the flip phones used to have and we can just swap a discharged battery on the go like we use to. Doesn't matter how long they take to charge. Batteries could charge over night in a charging dock

But noooo.....

I use an Apple iPhone Smart Battery Case. I never have to charge the phone during the day (or maybe a couple of days), so I don't have to look for an outlet or put the phone down on a wireless charger. Fast (or slow) charging not needed.

Plugin the phone at night, and both the case and the iPhone charges with one (Lightning) cable.

A widget shows the battery capacity of both the iPhone and the case.

I can easily remove the phone from the case, so it's kinda like a swappable battery.

It adds some bulk and weight to an iPhone, but that tradeoff is worth the advantages it brings to never have to worry about charging, while also protecting the phone.

IMO, it's one of the most underrated products Apple makes.

Why don't these companies work with better battery management and batter technology instead finding ways to charge it faster.

Jesus, 100W......

When Qualcomm released Quick Charge 3.0 they claimed "Quick Charge 3.0 is up to 4–6 °C cooler, 16% faster and 38% more efficient than Quick Charge 2.0". It was still hot AF.

When Qualcomm released Quick Charge 4.0 they claimed "Quick Charge 4 with Dual Charge++ is up to 5 °C cooler, 20% faster and 30% more efficient than Quick Charge 3.0 with Dual Charge+". It was still hot AF.

Forgive me for not buying the marketing for Quick Charge 5.0.

And Samsung claimed flip mechanical in 1st flip phone had been thoroughly tested. 🤣

I wouldn’t believe any of these companies marketing claims until tested by reliable 3rd parties.

If Apple announced this, people would be praising and drooling.

Because Apple is a big company everyone loves to sue. We will get what’s promised, or someone will sue them for class action lawsuits. You can bet your house on that.
There is a safety net buying Apple’s products on what being claimed. You don’t have that with these companies, not at the level of Apple’s.
