Just tested Quasar with the latest, now iPad 3-compliant version of RetinaPad (thread: https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/1380526/ ). An excerpt from the full article:

To be compliant with the excellent windowing app “Quasar”, keep the following in mind:

1, do NOT enable Settings > Extensions > RetinaPad > Always Zoom! (or, when you run Quasar, disable it temporarily)

2, do NOT enable Settings > Extensions > RetinaPad > Portrait in Landscape! (or, when you run Quasar, disable it temporarily)

The first will always zoom in too much; the second will always crop as is shown in the following screenshot of the same Landscape- and Portrait-only two apps I've already shown in the (rotated) screenshots above:

Otherwise, RetinaPad-enabled apps run just OK if you keep these global switches off while working under Quasar. That is, you won't end up having to disable RetinaPad'ing each of them when switching to Quasar, which saves you a lot of time.

I've had several issues associated with iBooks and the App Store.

App Store & Logictech Ultrathin - When I am prompted for my password, the iPad doesn't accept what I type, but it doesn't pop up the onscreen keyboard either. If I disable Quasar, it works. If I turn off the keyboard, the onscreen keyboard pops up and I can enter my password.

iBooks - If I attempt to switch from the default window to full screen before the book I was reading is loaded, the iPad hangs.

Great tweak; except I have 1 gripe with it.
It can only run iPhone apps at iPhone resolution. There's no way (That I've found) to put them at 2x like you can without this tweak.
It's a pretty major problem for me actually because I have quite a few iPhone resolution apps :/
Anyone know of a fix for this?
Apparently there's a workaround for iPhone app compatibility in Quasar. It allows for rotation and fullscreen mode for quite a few apps that need it. It's just a basic tweak available in common Cydia repos.

It's a shame Quasar didn't include the functionality by default. The added compatibility for iPhone apps really makes the tweak a lot more useful.

Edit: Alright! It works.

Im noticing that since I installed this on my NEW IPAD (ipad 3), more and more programs are freezing. For instance, HANGING WITH FRIENDS loads ip and then it freezes and I can ONLY do the HOME BUTTON/POWER BUTTON to turn off the ipad. If I turn off Quasar, everything works. Is there any fix for this or did I waste $10 that I cant get refunded?

I noticed that too. I can only reproduce the bug when I fullscreen the app before it loads up. Try keeping it in a window until it loads.

This is a major interface overhaul. I'm surprised it works as well as it does.

Wow! Great to know that, unlike RetinaPad, FullForce does support Quasar!! Will give it a try too.

1.1.1 out. My findings:

Unfortunately, while still not having a quick mode switcher icon as I've recommended for example at https://forums.macrumors.com/posts/14926218/ or iPhone app rotation / full screen support without relying on FullForce, the, in addition to some bugfixes, additional functionality is great:

- now, it suffices to tap the SpringBoard background in windowed mode to switch entirely to it (no need to press the Home button any more)

- the standard pinching gesture now works in full-screen mode to return to windowed (non-fullscreen) mode (but, unfortunately, the other gestures – for example, the four-finger swipe to left/right to switch apps – don't work)

Just a bug report (as the developer doesn't answer my twitter messages / emails, I post it here) on the second bullet above: when Quasar is disabled, the gesture doesn't work, as opposed to previous versions. Hope the latter bug will soon be fixed.

Yeah I noticed that too. If you do not have Quasar activated, it disables the pinch to homescreen gesture completely. Kind of annoying, as I use it often.

Fixed

I uninstalled Quasar and my pinch to close gesture came back.

I also uninstalled Quasar. I've given him enough time to fix the squished fullscreen issue and its still there in this latest update. It's just too buggy for me.

BTW, another bug report (could you also ask the dev to join us to make bugfixing faster? Or, can't he at all understand / speak English?)

The home screen-webpage bug of Quasar (the great windowing environment) still hasn't been fixed. If you add a link to a page to your SpringBoard via Safari's "Add to Home Screen", it'll only work when Quasar is disabled. When it's enabled, the page will immediately close or won't load (but Safari will be invoked with its earlier content).

My biggest issue, so far, has been that Browser Changer doesn't work with Quasar.

Has that been updated?

Nope, it still doesnt work.

Tried to contact him via email and twitter several times, even provided the Cydia Store mail of my purchasing his Quasar legally. Didn't answer.

That's too bad.

Other than that, it works close to perfectly for my uses. There are various QoL updates that could be done, though. Hopefully he continues to support the tweak, but maybe most of his users are using pirated versions (would be a shame).

Yup, the Cydia dev should invent some kind of a remotely upgradeable blacklist of pirate repos to make the life of people pirating Cydia apps harder. I don;t understand why for example xs****e can still be accessed from Cydia after so many months? years? of it distributing pirated Cydia apps.

1.1.2 has just been released, fixing the issue. Works just great here.

I have it, but I disable it most of the time. The funny thing is I don't even really use it for its intended purpose, rather the expectional backgrounding it provides.

Yeah, I was also forced to uninstall it. It's pretty unstable on my iPad3, constant crashes when trying to send emails from apps, random resprings, etc. I really want to like it and use it, but the amount of time spent just isn't worth it as I depend on my iPad for work. That said, the update is definitely more stable.

THIS!! Why does it have to be a trade off between chrome and quasar? I want both and I wish the dev would respond to emails.
