i am one of those people that hate to have calls in whatever shape or form, i rather send 100 messages or voice messages in a row. i am weird like that lol i probably used FT 5 times

either way. this gives apple 20 minutes to talk about something the competition has had for years. their iCloud file editing "feature" from last fall comes to mind!

This update to FaceTime would be nice, but I would much prefer Apple release iMessage for Android.
They have no incentive to do so. They will never release iMessage for Android unless they can profit from it.

This would be stellar. Personally, I don't call or video chat often, but those who travel for work/keeping in touch with family/friends will love this. I can think of some demographics specifically.

With this and the iPhone facial recognition rumours lately, I wonder if there is a 'Time to face the future' iOS event incoming... ;)

But while I can see both things being very useful, I'd just like to say to technology in general: please get out of my face! I'm sure Apple will make it optional, but it's stuff like the Minority Report-style advertising kiosks treating our faces like browser cookies I am not looking forward to.

You're not allowed to FaceTime on cellular

Yes you are, they changed that a few years ago (around iOS 6 I think).

I'm not allowed to? Tried to make a FaceTime Audio and I was told to connect to Wi-Fi and try again

Update: had cellular data turned off for FaceTime (had once been on a 2 hour call on cellular!) and that's why

Strange though because the Wi-Fi connect message I think is custom, so it should have said "Cellular is turned off for FaceTime, go to Settings"

And yes now I remember with the iPhone 5 intro video they showed that dude in the back of the car

Group Facetime sounds like an amazing way to burn through cell data plans.
Then don't use it. And definitely don't stream movies. That uses a lot of data. And messaging, and on and on. All use data. Don't use any of those and you'll be just fine.

I thought the point of video chats over cellular was... I don't know, video chats over cellular?

But, but, but... according to McTaste, you shouldn't be using data if it will burn through your data plan. I'm going to use two cans and string. I'll show those cellular people a thing or two if they want to charge me for data. I'll make an extra set of cans and string for McTaste. This thread has allowed me to add a bunch more to the ignore file. Another two thousand to add to make the forum readable and useful.

Huh, didn't realize this wasn't possible already. Didn't iChat allow group video conversations?
Yes. Unfortunately, Apple kinda dropped that great service in favor of something worse. I was surprised from the start that the iPhone didn't have iChat. It used to only have SMS, not even MMS, and my friends used the crappy AIM app to communicate with me!

I hope this is true...I think this should have been included in FaceTime if not from the beginning, than from one of the first updates after. I'd definitely use this when facetiming with my family.

On a slightly off topic note, if they're gonna be making changes to FaceTime, I'd love a way to access my voicemails from my iPad when wifi calling is enabled. I love having the ability to make and receive calls on my iPads and use this feature all the time. However, its usefulness is somewhat limited for me, since I get a lot of spam calls and need to screen a lot of incoming calls. As such I still generally need my iPhone close by to check voicemails. I'd love to be able to just use whatever device that's in front of me to do that though. So yeah, I'd love to see that sometime.

Since you're showing more than one person at once at a fraction of the size, it should give them each a fraction of the bandwidth and end up using the same bandwidth. Or if it's like Google Hangouts where you see one person full-size at a time, it'll use the same plus a little extra for low-res versions of everyone else.

Who gives a **** anymore, anyone on an Apple boycott?
Boycott? I just don't buy their stuff anymore cause I don't want it. What reason is there to boycott?

Matthew Ellis, VZW's new CFO, will be spending most of the weekend sharpening his canine teeth and fingernails, planning on drawing VZW-colored blood money from its subs each and every month.

Can you hear Ellis now?: Bwah hah hah hah! Bwah hah hah. Sniff… Bwah hah hah hah! Scrape, scrape, file, scrape… I can… :(
