Now help me out here.....I have seen this Student Developer Program but I am not majoring in Software Development. However, I am an architecture student who is interested in some small software development ideas. I am enrolled in all architecture classes and construction classes. Is there anyway for me to obtain this membership? Does anyone have a situation like mine?

Yes, I have read about some others getting this but they are freshman with freshman classes.....not ones that say ARCH 3452, ARCH 1200, ARCH 3680, CNST 2000, CNST 3000.....see the difference....

Any help here?

I see nothing that says you need to be enrolled in CS classes, and all I see is a need to be 18 and be able to prove you're a college student, so you should be fine.

So the rebate varies, depending on what you buy?

I saw the price on the regular Mac Pro was listed at $1999 through the ADC store (normal $2499).

So you still save $399 by being a member or more if you buy it with an Apple Cinema Display.

Yeah I have read as much of it as I can (without falling asleep) and I don't see anything that says you have to be persuing a degree in software development.....

Want ADC Student Discount?

Are you a student currently enrolled?

Are you 18 or older?

Do you want a discount on a new Mac, thats better than the EDU?

if you answered YES to all of these, then why havent you become a student developer?

the more expensive the mac, the more of the discount youll recieve, of course. BUT, you only get to do this ONCE, FOR THE REST OF YOUR LIFE, as a student developer.

So if you are in the market for a new mac, but they are slightly more expensive than you care to spend, try the Student Developer discount (remember, regardless if you renew your membership you only get ONE mac, ever, youll need to become a REAL developer for more than ONE discount per lifetime and that costs alot more than $99/year)

If you arent a student and still want to get the discount, find someone who hates macs, is a student, and would help you out!

Part time is fine (as the page says). I'm taking one three hour sociology class that I've put off and they verified me on Monday.

I'm pretty much set to become a student member of ADC; you just can't beat that 20% discount (I'm aware its one-per-lifetime. here's to reincarnation!) even after the $99 fee. And, uh, I totally want to learn how to develop, too...yeah...

Two questions:

1) Will I be able to shop in the ADC Store immediately, or is there a turn-around time after applying for membership?

2) I've heard that ADC members have traditionally recieved a free copy of any new OS that comes out during their membership. Can I expect a copy of Leopard when it goes on sale? Hoping!

1. There is about a 1 week turn around time from application to approval of your membership. Once the e-paper work is done there will be a link in your assets page for the ADC store. Happy SHopping. Here is a hint. don't buy apple care at the ADC store, it is not discounted at all. Instead go to your local apple store and use your Student Discount.

2. I recieved a every single version of Tiger on DVD with my member ship. 10.4.2 all the way to 10.4.6 (my membership expired). I would expect them to ship you a copy of Leopard when it is released.

you should be fine. I was a Communicaitons student and they approved my membership.

It should work just fine for me, a guy way out of college taking a credit bearing oxy-acetylene welding class. :)

Definitely worked for a friend while we were taking a gas welding (tig and mig) class. I just have found that realistically oxy-fuel is more useful in the every day realm, it cuts, it bends, it welds and it doesn't require a power source.

I don't have a link in my Assets! It says:
ADC Student Membership Quantity-1 Expires-31 Jul 2007
ADC Mailing - Student Quantity-1 Expires-31 Jul 2007

And on the right side in the little gray box titled Assets how there is Active and Pending, those are grayed out.

However, in my history page, it has:
ADC Student Membership (Pending); Paid-Credit Card; Purchased on-28 Jul 2006; Status-Approved

Should I be concerned? I already got the enrollment kit with the t-shirt, developer DVD, and OS 10.4.6 DVD.

I was a sociology major (15 credits, all sociology) my senior year when I applied and was approved for my student ADC.

to add to everyone else's confirmations, yes you do get (quite a few) copies of OS's as they are released (and full version of newer releases...i.e. 10.4.3, 10.4.6, etc)

also, you can always download the full OS's from the ADC download page as well:D

Anything about this from anyone?

There is no link from your assets page. Google is your friend ("Apple Student Developer" being the keyword - read the first two results)

You should confirm that you have verified your student status and have an active ADC Student Membership on your Active Assets page before placing an order. Orders will be cancelled if student status has not been verified.
Once ADC Student Membership is listed as a black asset, you're good to go.

I think a lot of you, the OP included, don't fully understand what Apple means when they say "once in your lifetime." It's once in your lifetime as a student. You might as well use the discount now since most of us will be students for 4-6 years only. So basically it's one discount during that time period.

im planning to buy the stock 2ghz white macbook which is $1349 canadian with student discount. its $1449 canadian with no discount. how much would i save with ADC on this purchase? and also, am i right in assuming the $99 ADC cost is american and does not include tax? thanks

it's $1,169.00 USD with the student developer discount. the $99 (to my knowledge) is american, and there is no tax in the subscription fee. just $99 USD

and how much is the 2ghz white macbook with a plain student discount? thanks in advance

$1,199.00 USD going through The University of Akron (but it should be the same for all the rest). $1,299.00 USD is the normal price.

Do you think being a law student counts?

I'm a first year law student. Do you think the developer discount would apply to me?

Anyone know about how long it takes to process everything, after I begin faxing over my stuff?

It took two days for me. I faxed my student ID and proof of enrollment. It was faster than I expected.
