my experience

couple of points from my experience that will hopefully help address the questions and concerns in this thread:

1. i joined when i was a part time student at San Jose State Univ
2. i just had to fax in my current class schedule as verification of my student status
3. i continued to renew my membership each year as long as I was taking at least one class when I renewed my membership
4. i received at least 2 copies of the current OS each year (sometimes 3) - they are not the retail package, but install just like a retail version of the OS
5. the last year of my membership, i renewed during the last semester that I was taking classes and did not take classes for the rest of the year. i ordered my g5 towards the end of my membership and at the time i was no longer taking classes, but my order went through without a hitch.
6. i didn't have a link or an asset for a hardware discount in my account, but the terms state that if you have an active student membership, then you have a once per lifetime developer discount. they will just check that you're student developer membership is active when you place the order
7. i considered getting a display when i ordered by g5 but decided against it because the discount was only 10% (or maybe little less). the educational discount was actually bigger than the developer discount for the displays. plus, i though the displays were a bit overpriced at the time, so I waited.

hope this helps.

For those of you that have ordered using the ADC discount, how long did it take from the time that you placed your discounted order to the time it was shipped? The document on the ADC site says it can be up to 4 weeks or more before its shipped.

Also, is there a discount on the cinema display?

 There's shipping delay?! But I've been waiting for a Rev B MBP for so long.... :(

Exactly how much is it? I cant seem to find it.

I just bought a Mac Pro, is there anyway I could get them to apply the credit toward that? I see that it would have started at just $1999! I really hope I could apply that to the Mac Pro...

Can you just buy displays? Thanks!

try this: http://developer.apple.com/membership/usa.html

under ordering information there is a link to the developer store (found it in another post). I was checking display info and you only save 20 dollars over the normal student price on the 20 in. all the other sizes are the exact same price as with the student discount

Yeah I ended up finding that.

How much is the Student Membership though? And do you think they would apply the discount to the Mac Pro I just purchased? Thanks!

I think I found the price. It appears to be $500. Totally not worth it for me to buy that, and try to buy a Mac. I am basically paying for the discount. I would love to join anyway, but right now the hardware discount incentive is why I would be doing it.

You have to order from the ADC select store - so you could cancel your just-placed order and start over, but that's about it.

I was confirmed on Aug. 27th - anyone know how long it usually takes to receive your OS/t-shirt/etc. package?

I already got my Mac Pro. It doesnt seem like it would be worth my money if the Membership was $500.

I may do it next year when I am in the market for a Macbook/Pro. Can someone confirm that it does infact cost $500? Or is it some other price?

I ordered dual 2.0 g5 through the adc with my student developer membership on March 28, 2006 and it was shipped on April 1, 2006. I'm not sure which items actually have that 4 week delay, but mine didn't.

Membership is $99.

Sorry for my stupidity, but where do I get it? I found this page, I see the $99 gift thing, is that it?

Since I already got my Mac Pro. I think I will join up next year to get Leopard and a MBP.

You need to edit your profile... you need to check that you are a university/college student and give your student number and school name before they will let you buy the ADC student membership for yourself.

ADC at Apple Store

Does the ADC discount work at an Apple Store? I would rather pick something up quick rather than wait for it in the mail.

On a side note, can I upgrade my HDD at the Apple store at the time of purchase? I just want to skip the whole online wait process.

Thanks

Unfortunately not: link.

"NOTE: To receive your discount, you must place the order through the ADC Hardware Purchase Program Store, NOT on any other Apple online store, retail location, or reseller. Purchases made outside of the ADC Hardware Purchase Program Store will not be re-booked or credited at developer pricing."

Am interested in signing up for this student ADC program. From what I see on this site, it seems that you would be able to get developer disks of OS X. I understand that only the Premier and Select members get pre-launch versions of 10.5, but would student members get it in their monthly developer's package after the release? If so, wouldn't that offset the $99 membership fee alone? Of course, I am also interested in the one-time hardware discount but if the OS X factor is true, I wouldn't mind at all.

As a side note, I'm currently an freshman in audio production and design. Would I still qualify for the student ADC? My school allows their students to take major-related classes freshman year. Out of my 13 credit hours, 7 are in audio courses. Would that matter?

Yes, you'd qualify as well

Yes, it is expected that student members will receive Leopard after its release. But remember that the student price for OS releases is usually $69, so it doesn't entirely offset the cost. But yes, you make a valid point.

What do the Student Mailings consist of?

DVD's with training material on it or what? They come monthly? Really good info or what?

Just curious about this end of the thing, I am buying the membership tonight, faxing my membership tomorrow, and ordering my Mac Pro hopefully by the end of the week. So the hardware discount is covered, but curious about the other materials included in the package.

MB & C2D-MBP and ADC

Can someone who has access to the ADC Student Store, post the current MB and MBP prices. If it's in Canadian, that would be amazing, but not required. Thanks in advance.

Student ADC membership gives you a one time only discount on your hardware purchase.

You might want to hold off until you are working on your major or grad school
to take advantage of gear that covers all your needs, once you know exactly
how much gear you're going to need.

I'm in my final year of university doing SE and starting grad school in Septermber 07. I know it's a one time deal and I'm prepared to full the trigger. I just want to know the prices so I can decide what's the best deal (ADC or HE). I know people say ADC is best, but I need numbers.

Same request really for MB and MBP prices on the student ADC store, but in American dollars too.
