This is why I <3 living in Canada.

Rogers doesnt seem to even care. Even though your plans are much better in price, Rogers offers free tethering to all plans over 1 gb data. Im on 6gb/month plan (plus tethering) for 30, not including voice and text.

through all the pages it looks like nobody has come to a conclusion.
Gee thanks, how about not posting if you have nothing to add

We are trying to be systematic about this, it's not like any of us work for AT&T and know exactly how people are getting caught

I use to tether about 4 GB a month from my iPhone 4 to my iPad only using mywi and I received the text, email and letter last week.

I have since stopped and called them acting dumb.

fYI- I only tethered to my iPad. No other devices.

hmm this sucks. Can you verify that your wifi signal was only being used by the iPad, and that no other laptops, etc connected to it when you were tethering

If this is true AT&T must be able to detect non-iPhone Internet use (perhaps using device id tags) since theoretically the browsing software is exactly the same in the iPad and iPhone

Mine was iPhone 4 to iPad2 doing FaceTime-- and got the text and then email. I have unlimited data and using MyWi. Before that, just tether to iPods for the kids watching YouTube videos in the car with their own iPods. These cases do not involve using Safari!

Yes, that's fine, but have you ever tethered your laptop to your iphone? Just once?

Are you sure? So in the last four years of you using MyWi, you've never ever ever tethered to a laptop?

100% sure only ipad... I always had the Wifi feature off on MyWi since I only used the OnDemand feature through bluetooth

hmm. well i guess that is that. No more free tethering. However, I'm going to get back at AT&T by using iTransmission on the iPhone.

AT&T makes me angry by taking away tethering. They should have never allowed it in the first place. If they knew it was happening, why not simply block it?

So fine, I'll max out my bandwidth with iTransmission. I'll make them sorry that they pulled this stunt.

Yes I am sure ATT is going to be angry with your data use  Much more likely the people sharing the same tower as you are going to be angrier if its a high use spot already and since its an iPhone they are going to keep it and just be unhappy and possibly call ATT and then ATT will say upgrades are happening all they time so expect your speed to increase in the next 10yrs ;)

Youre going to get back at them by hurting all of the other people that use the same tower as you:confused:?

If you really want to get back at ATT then go to Verizon, just know they are not dumb enough to allow unrestriced teathering ither.

I was sold unlimited data. Is it wrong to expect that?

You get unlimited data on your iPhone but that
does not include tethering data.

Read your terms you agree to. Your PHONE has unlimited data... The laptop, iPad, desktop PC with wireless card... Do NOT have that.

So I cant even tether my iphone to my ipad? That stinks, I have a 2 gb plan but I barely use 500mb a month, why cant i tether to my ipad and still stay under my 2gb plans....att should at least allow this.

I mean you really have nothing to lose since you're already on the 2gb plan. Worst case scenario, they add the tethering to your account and you cancel it every time.

I mean, if that's too much of a hassle, you can always just pay the extra $20 required for any type of tethering....

I'm guessing AT&T won't put up with this for more than a couple of times without some sort of severe repercussions.

Umm but I dont even use my allowance 2gb on my iphone....why do I have to buy 20 bucks more of data when I'm not gonna use it all on the ipad? I would only tether occasionally, cuz 80% of the time I'm around wifi....

Yeah in your case you don't really have much to loose since they aren't removing you off an unlimited data plan. But I guess it's just the hassle of having to call in. But then again it's AT&T they might just say "Tether again and you will be stuck on the $45 plan for 1 year." Who knowss

This is the problem with AT&T's rates and plans.
