I gave up and bought an Android phone. Been tethering with it for over a month now... no text.. no email.
yeah but i don't really see how they can "force" you onto the tether plan but I guess we will find out. I think this is really more of a way for att to weed customers off of the unlimited plans in favor of tiered data. I think they are trying to limit the bandwidth used more than trying to make a little extra money.I'm guessing AT&T won't put up with this for more than a couple of times without some sort of severe repercussions.
not that i agree with what att does, but your ToS say you have data for your phone, not for any device you choose to use.Umm but I dont even use my allowance 2gb on my iphone....why do I have to buy 20 bucks more of data when I'm not gonna use it all on the ipad? I would only tether occasionally, cuz 80% of the time I'm around wifi....

well, att doesn't offer such a planWell he wasn't saying that he should be able to keep unlimited and tether. He is saying why can't he have some kind of plan to have his 2GB of data with tethering instead of having 4GB with tethering since he only uses 1-1.5 GB at most. Which I can agree for people who tether because not all people who tether use 4GB
I am in the same boat as you.
I tether infrequently, about 10-20 minutes
every few days, staying around 2-3GB usage
per month.
They haven't gotten to me yet, either, but I
imagine it's just a matter of time.

Lol yes I have. We FaceTime all the time with 3G Unrestrictor. Got HBO Go and will stream all day til the battery dies.
Received a txt over a month ago saying they updated my plan to the $45 tethering plan, but as of yet I still have unlimited.
On the phone with att as i type this. Last billing period att told me to stop tethering, wasn't tethering. a comprimise reached, limit data use and use wifi and they gave me 7500 rollover min. to compensate using voip. Made it thru was hard. new billing period started called to add second line, the bomb. They are still threating to change data plan becuase they say im tethering. A DAMN LIE i never was. So now on the phone with att and they say their trying to staighten it out. 1st problem they say is when i sync to itunes its considered tethering and to put phone in airplane mode. What a load of ******.
on hold again, will follow up later.

What a crock, I tell ya, if they try to change my plan over some BS like that, I'll be switching to VZW the same day!
how is it a lose lose situation? I am not under contract with ATT, I don't have to pay an ETF to leave them, and if I can't have unlimited data on either network, I'd personally rather be on the network with better coverage, and the one who has a substantial LTE network rolled out....who no longer has unlimited plans. You would just be in a lose-lose situation because you'd pay an ETF.
I have heard the same things, but I am seriously doubting it now. First off, real world tests from VZW LTE are beating Lab tests of ATT LTE in terms of speed. Also, ATT is launching with 5 markets, and plans to have 15 by the end of the year. VZW launched with almost 40 markets, and will have 175 by the end of the year.
Rollover has never once been beneficial to me, my minutes all just end up expiring after not being used for one year. I guess it is helpful to those who often are right around their minute allotment, but I think the vast majority of people probably just end up never using their rollover minutes.
The thing that sucks about reception is that it is really based on your location. ATT may be way better in some areas, while verizon or sprint excel in others. Luckily, both are pretty good in my area so for me it comes down to plans, phones, and prices which is why I chose att for the iphone years ago. Now that they are no longer the only carrier, I can look to moving my service elsewhere. I really wish sprint would get the iPhone because they still offer unlimited data and have the cheapest plans.
