Nice! Suggesting apple went from ibooks checking for jailbreaks to detecting illegitimate tethering?

FYI
I'm running 4.1 still, mywi, And used 15 gig during the month of Feb.
I fell back down to my usual usage for the month of mar--about 2 gb.
Received the email three days ago about tethering And was given till 16 apr to respond.
So I dont think the IOS version matters. Seems maybe mywi is the catch here.

1. What do you intend to do? Call AT&T or
just keep tethering?

2. How much data were you using at the
point that AT&T contacted you?

I know I am late to the party, but the first rule of the "tethering" group is we don't talk about the Tethering Group or how much data we use. Second rules is.... well...you should know where this is going by now.

You could very well be correct. I'm gonnn a just call and play stupid. I have that down to a science as proven by the fact that I'm stll an AT&T&. Customer!!

Well the "tethering group" will be no more unless this is discussed and figured out.

For the record, I called AT&T and told them I hadn't tethered (as I wasn't) The woman was very rude to me and said they would investigate it but that I should prepare to have my plan changed. I said that if they laid one finger on my account I wanted a phone call before hand, and followed up with threatening to jump ship to VZW if they upped my plan Never heard back from AT&T, and still have my unlimited plan.

Eight posts above yours is a guy on 4.1 that did so maybe not related to os.

Just to be clear, you got the email?

I have had the "unlimited" data plan since the original iphone and continue to be grandfathered into that plan with each new iphone purchase. I probably use 2-3gb of data per month on average, never have received a phone call, letter, text, nothing, and I've been tethering for a long while.

I think it has been made pretty clear at this point that AT&T has no way to actually identify how you are using the data (on the phone or through a tether). They simply look at accounts, if you were averaging less than 1gb of data per month and suddenly your last 2 months are over 2gb they are probably going to assume you are tethering and will likely contact you. If data usage stays consistent, I don't see how they would message you, even if you were using the full 5gb every month on the "unlimited" plan as long as you have been a consistent high data user.

Has anyone continued tethering even past the date their account was supposed to be changed? If yes, then reply.

I don't think any of the dates that AT&T has said they were going to change peoples plans have come upon us yet.

I've tethered maybe 50mb max this cycle and am now at 5123.75mb with 17 days left, mostly from netflix. I was going to try and use as much data as I could WITHOUT tethering to see if it got the notice, but my internet went down for a while and that plan went out the window.

What happens if you get the notice and call them up and say you weren't tethering? Will they just note it on your account and let you go on tethering and not bug you? That would be nice...
