Anyone hanging around here will think the notch is a crime against humanity, but most people don't actually care-- they want to see the state of the art move forward. If your laugh line boils down to "we couldn't figure out how to do anything better so applaud us for giving you the same as last year", the audience is left underwhelmed.

Tout how you've innovated a new solution to a competitors problem, not how you failed to innovate one. "Aren't you glad we didn't try" isn't a crowd pleaser...

Complaints about the notch are mostly manufactured outrage. It sounds like Samsung thought it was a badge of tribal affiliation. It's not. It's something to complain about while people wait for something better.
Add me to the lobby to enable upvoting comments. One of the best articulated comments I’ve read against the ridiculous notch hoopla. Snide notch remarks are nipping at the heels of snide emoji remarks for the title of Least Clever Things On The Internet.

Not true at Apple Store in Stratford / London where I was asking how to deal with a mega (300GB) Photos Library!

The response was move to Google Photos! And as for the Mac Pro debacle, the store guy was hyper critical of the current biscuit tin and the crazy lack of RAID support in High Sierra!!

Unfortunately, Apple has its blind spots...
But here's the thing. Apple employees (source: used to be one) are allowed to suggest apps on the App Store that may solve your issue. Google Photos can be a great resource for many people, their free storage cannot be beat when you really need to back something up.

The genius ranting about holes in their current lineup has nothing to do with suggesting competitors. Healthy critique is very normal.

How do you know? Do you believe no one else would have thought of putting a graphical user interface on a computer?

It would have likely happened eventually, but it probably wouldn't have been Apple and you wouldnt be spending $3,000 on an iMac with 3 year old parts.

Samsung can poke fun at Apple all they want. Until they are willing to commit to support of legacy devices like Apple does. I'll keep buying Apple.

With Samsung you are lucky to get one or two major Android updates. That update will come many months after it is released. Perhaps you'll also get a couple security updates.

Considering the price. They should be working with Google directly. To get major Android updates out the door the same month Google releases them. They should also get a the latest Android OS for a minimum of four years from the phones release date. They should also be getting the monthly Google security patches. Like Pixel and Nexus devices.

If LineageOS can keep pace so well on a huge array of devices with hardly any funding. There is no reason why Samsung can't. On devices they built and understand in complete detail.

While Apple may be not be perfect. I am reasonably assured by past devices. I will get the latest OS updates and security patches for four to five years. I know Google has the Pixel. But it costs as much as an iPhone and they don't commit to updates as long as Apple does.
Samsung is a juggernaut though, like it or not. The Note 7 battery gate didn't hurt them at all. They may have zero stage presence but they still have a loyal phone community, not to mention quality consumer electronics.

They also produce low priced phones so it's easy to buy a new one every year or two, a good option for those w/o technolust buying $500+ devices. There's no real incentive for them to support phones 2+ years old. They sell their new stuff like hotcakes.

"and as always, you know, there's no notch"

Looking at iPhone sales, I'm surprised Samsung isn't copying the notch.

It's already old hat with multiple Chinese manufacturers copying it. ;)
Or maybe it's in their contract, Samsung can't use the OLEDs with notches they made for Apple. :D

I would say you found at least one "honest" Apple store ;)

Seeing the Galaxy S9 next to the iPhone X is embarrassing, I really hope Apple up their game.

Samsung make constant evolutionary changes to their phones, unfortunately besides updating the internals Apple just try and be revolutionary, but you can't keep re-inventing the wheel.

Just an iPhone 8 with smaller bezels will do nicely thanks Apple.

I think comments should be disabled for these quick take articles and instead direct readers to the full versions or else all of the comments will be jumbled up and confusing. Also there is more detail in the original articles that may be skipped over.
