ummm, i'm playing htem on my g4 powerbook, at least the fantastic four one so far.

update: the wildlife or space shuttle ones won't load, is anyone else having this problem?

The Batman Begins trailer sure doesn't play well on my 1.42GHz Mac mini (aside from being bigger than my 1024x768 display). Tried playing it at native size, half size... It's just too much for the G4, the "G5 required" doesn't surprise me.

personally, i've been waiting for Apple to release new content in H.264, to really see how improved it is. so far, there's nothing on the site, except this..

http://www.apple.com/quicktime/hdgallery/

the page doesn't seem to be up yet, as it's currently giving me the new specialized for Quicktime "Are you looking for something?" page.. but the link for the HD Gallery is on this page.. hopefully by tonight we'll have some nice HD to try out on our computers.

it's up now... they have the batman begins trailer along with some other stuff in HD. pretty sweet except that my monitor isnt in HD! soon i will get the 23in HD

I already had Quicktime 6 Pro. Do I have to buy a Pro upgrade AGAIN?

Looks like yes. I won't have spare cash for 15 days.

All of my QT scripts are screwed! Aperently, the AppleScript syntax is not supported. My licence for FCP is screwed, and I would bet that LiveType and SoundTrack are equaly disabbled.

All of my scripts are screwed!! I'm just venting. I am all for QT upgrades, I just didn't think that I would loose access to some of my applications and have all my scripts screwed.

A warning would of been nice! (Yes I know that there is a warrning about this in the Pro-Apps manual, but I needed a reminder.)

Saness, they dont seem to be working for you. But as for me they are fine. the fps seem to drop a bit here and there but definantly nice!

I'm downloading the Batman Trailer right now, my copy of Tiger came in about an hour ago. The quality is AMAZING!!!! I knew it was going to be good, but this is making my jaw drop. I am speechless. Job well done Apple, just, well done.

*There is a download option and I am on a 1 ghz G4.*

Ok then I don't see why some people are acting like they took this feature away. I will agree that Full screen should be a basic feature, but these people sound like the ones who were complaining that Tiger wasn't a free upgrade.

It is a feature that they took away for those of us that wrote scripts that used QT's FullScreen ability. All of the scripts that wrote now have syntax issues. I haven’t upgraded to Tiger, because I can't afford it. Apple did make a point, and I am looking for the technical document, that script enhancements would work concretely through the 10.x line, so that scripts wouldn't inherently be made invalid through upgrades.

I don’t mind paying for upgrades, even though it just goes on the credit card for a time. I am just cash strapped. It would have been nice to get a warning during the download as a reminder as to what will happen.

I will buy a new pro-license and I will buy Tiger, but it would have been nice to wait until after rent is due. 1/2 my pay goes to rent. This almost encourages pirating. Pardon the rant, I just had my day (or next 17 days) screwed.

HD footage will have to keep me busy for 4 days while I wait for Tiger :p

I really like it. My iMac G5 can just about handle it. I hope there is a HD version of the online seminar :p :D

This is Quicktime 7, not Quicktime 6. Do you expect iLife '05 for free if you buy iLife '04?

(granted, upgrade prices would be nice)

That was a nasty response to the question... its a vaild question. If you buy, say, Konfabulator, and they release updates/upgrades, its FREE.

If you JUST purchased QT6, I assume you can get QT7 for free. But, you need to buy it again otherwise.

I'm ending up produce more and more training documentation these days for the various systems that I support and am therefore interested to start recording demonstrations from my desktop. I note that Quicktime states that it can record footage from digital camcorders, but can it record the actions that I perform on my computer as a movie? If not, does anyone have any recommendations of suitable applications for doing this?

hi Kelmon,

Check this out:

Download the demo, try it out, report back and let us know what you think.

Sure, he should ask Apple if he just bought a QT6Pro license, but aside from that?

My QTPro/iLife comparison was valid and in no way supposed to sound harsh.

I'm just gonna wait till Final Cut Studio ships with my copy of Tiger before using QT7.

For everyone having problems running the HD QuickTime files on a G4 machine: Are you running Panther or Tiger?? I am running a clean install of Tiger on my 1.42 gHz Mac Mini and have watched several of the videos from the Apple HD site and there is no problem at all. I can resize them, change as many options as the non-pro version will give you, still no problems. I can't do fullscreen yet, gonna purchase the QT7 Pro key as soon as I make it to the bank later.

This might just be a problem on G4s running Panther. Tiger seems to be optimized for running QT7 on everything. Will check out the site on my iBook G3 running Tiger later and see what happens.

i'm hoping they switch all the movie trailers to H.264.. i understand that they need to wait until there's enough of an install base.. and definitely wait for Quicktime 7 for Windows to be released, but i don't want H.264 to be another demo codec that they forget about (like MPEG-4, although, i understand that.. MPEG-4 just wasn't better than Sorenson)

Panther here, Mac mini 1.42GHz. Have you tried the humongous (~150MB) Batman Begins, H264, 1920x816 trailer?

Surround sound

Interesting. Anyone think this might mean support for surround music in the next version of iTunes? SACD, DVD-Audio, DTS-CD... it would be great to be able to rip and play all of those in surround using iTunes just like regular 2-channel audio. I've been suggesting this to Apple for awhile. :D

For those who are complaining about the upgrade price, I feel your pain, but it's really not that big of a deal. It's been this way at least since QuickTime 4 - each new major revision required a new license for QuickTime Pro. And just like with OS X, you get plenty of free updates - with QT 6 we went all the way up to 6.5.2.

Yeah, Apple should have notified Pro users that upgrading would invalidate their license, but honestly if you depend on a piece of software, wouldn't a major version number change set off alarm bells in your head? If not, it should. You should be asking around whether it will affect you, and hold off until reports from other users come in. It's the smart thing to do for any software which is critical. ;)

wondering

Does a Quicktime 7 Pro key come with Motion 2
or for that matter what apps does it come with
I know when I bought DVD studio Pro 3 a QT 6 Pro key came with it...

" This almost encourages pirating. Pardon the rant, I just had my day (or next 17 days) screwed."

Give me a break...why don't you go down to the grocery store and walkout with a gallon of milk while you're at it. The justifaction for pirating amazes me

Don't Steal Movies

Maybe they had this on the old site, but I just noticed it: (http://www.apple.com/quicktime/pro/)

>Don’t Steal Movies
>If you see something you want to watch again and again, QuickTime 7
>Pro lets you quickly save your favorite content to disk.
>
>Professional studios around the world spend millions of dollars and
>man-hours producing commercial entertainment. Please don’t steal
>their work or in ten years, it will cost $50(2) to see a movie in the
>theater. But, you can find lots of material on the Web that’s legal to
>cut, copy and remix. Look for the Creative Commons license and add
>to the world’s culture.

and a very "do no eat ipod shuffle"-esqe disclaimer

>(2) Exaggerated estimate.

Maybe they should start adding that disclaimer to benchmarks, too: (http://www.hardwareanalysis.com/content/article/1796/)

Any word on QT7 and/or Tiger wrecking QT-dependent computer games like Myst/Riven/etc? Now I'm almost too scared to install Tiger when it comes "before 4:30pm" today.
