"What about "Tasks, ToDos sync"?"

Nope. :( at least that wasn't announced today. Maybe that will be one of the 100 other features.

Agreed. I don't care if it's Apple or 3rd party, but I need to sync outlook Tasks to the phone, and the solutions so far just don't cut it (Our Outlook is not exposed to the web, and why should it be anyway). I'm syncing contacts locally, so why not Tasks? (and why not wirelessly, via bluetooth or wifi?)

1) So much for all the Kevin Rose haters

2) So much for the crowd that said it wouldn't run on the original iPhone

Looks like a great update.

Wow the micro payment idea is dumb, 99 cents to get a rocket launcher ??? WTF is up with that, looks like no more free map updates for apps  .

Yea, and probably the last. Did you notice he started choking after he said it? He knew he was in trouble.

Ass is a mule/donkey hybrid.

Arse would have been a better term to have used ;)

EDIT: I jailbroke my phone ages ago, and changed the carrier to say "iPhone" using "makeitmine" and it is STILL there, in 3.0 even though I am not jailbroken now!

Devs asked for it

ngcomo explained afterwards that this was simply a demo/proof of concept (they were supposed to put 3.0 features in). That part shouldn't be in when they release the actual game.

Do expect that kind of stuff from the likes of EA though. Think Xbox Marketplace. There will be lots of moneygrabbing at least in the beginning, but the word-of-mouth drive of the appstore should limit it somewhat.

You're apparently not aware that developpers were already able to release "paid" updates... they just chose not to.
What about a new version of the iPhone itself? Did they mention a release of the 3rd gen iPhone this summer as well? 32GB would be nice.
No mention of new hardware.

Apple wants your money.
Oddly enough, owners of the 1st gen iPhones in the end will give Apple more money than owners of the 3G model. Remember it is in AT&T's best interest to get you on the 3G cause they don't have to share any of the service money with Apple. So if anything Apple should want the 1st gen iPhone owners to keep their phones for as long as possible.

Oh, Phil!

Seems Phil was tremendously excited by the audience's response.

Seriously: Someone get that man some microphone etiquette lessons.

Outlook sync works very well via wifi... I don't know how you think it's supposed to work without exposing Outlook to the web. If your company doesn't want you using outside-computers/mobile-devices to access their Exchange server then I don't see what Apple can do about it.

Looks like a great update.

1) Once Kevin Rose's beau at Apple is exposed and removed, that'll be the end of his amazing insight.

2) I thought I read that some features would NOT be available on the original iPhone (like A2DP and MMS). Or did I misunderstand?

It still will be a great update.

Well, the stream stuttered at first, but on third or forth attempt it looked pretty good. Didn't get much more out of it than looking at the pics on engadnet. Started downloading the sdk last night, it was still downloading when I went to bed. I have a 8mb cable modem but this download was extremely slow.

The getting started videos loaded very quickly and showed everything the demos did and more... they are a very good starting point.

I don't think I am going to put the beta on my iphone yet, I heard its a bit sluggish and your phone is locked into the testing software.
I would only put the beta on my phone if I could restore if there was an issue and the beta notes says that is not possible.

I ussually start development on the simulator anyway so I may wait a while and closer to summer get a touch to test the functionality of my apps.

Also the beta nda you have to click/sign doesn't let you post so much as a screen shot, further it sounds like just developing with the new sdk (even using a 2.21 framework) will prevent you from submitting to the app store.
I don't want to do that I may have an app or two I want to publish before summer.

There's a lot of buzz on the palm site about the pre still being better. I don' t own a pre but I do also have sprint so I was thinking about it until I found out it was a wm 6.1 device.

I use to develop a lot on wm platforms, it wasn't exactly hard but I couldn't describe it as fun, better I guess than toolchains and java me but still a pain. Developing with both dashcode and xcode is actually fun at times. The simulator is one of the best. Although the performance of the simulator is not always a good guage of how the app runs on the phone. Always asume the phone will be somewhat slower .

So for now the new sdk goes on one macbook pro and later a possible ipod touch and the 2.21 sdk remains on the new macbook pro I brought last month.

Curious how any other developers without more than one iphone are going to proceed with this. The temptation I know its to download it and try, But if something goes bad your without a phone for a whiile.

I wish Steve Jobs would do all the major announcements like new products... I think he does the best job, he's the most personable one on stage, imo.

I thought the same thing after watching Macworld 09, but after seeing this keynote, I'm pleasantly surprised. Scott Forestall and Jos did an excellent job presenting and the reality distortion field was still there :p

But Phil Schiller....No. Scott Forestall is a much better spaker.

Agreed. EA is notoriously known on Xbox Live to charge for the most minor update. In fact, many of the downloadable pieces of content available on the Marketplace are actually ON THE DISC, and you're paying to unlock them. EA WILL nickel-and-dime us.

Hahahaha.. now at least I can believe it when the old line "We've got some great products coming up that we're very very excited about" makes an appearance

Would rather have seen demo's done by TomTom and Sling rather than a blood pressure monitor app!
