Sad to see the backlit logo go, but not sure a white logo would go as well at the aluminum ones for the colored MacBooks. Maybe that's why they've done away from them. Or just trying to have every line available in the same 3 colors.

i so disagree. i found it heavy, dim-screened, clunky. a much better mac was the 12" powerbook (especially the last gen 1.5 model). just a humble opinion... :D

There's about 7 years difference between the 12" 1.5ghz Powerbook and the Pismo...compared to what PC companies were turning out at the time, the Pismo was a pretty darn good computer.

Saying it's heavy and clunky next to a 1.5ghz Powerbook is like saying that the classic Macbook Pro is heavy and clunky next to the Retina MBP.

I think I'm one of the few that will happily say; thank god it's gone. I'm an advocate of Apple's products, but I always found the light up logo to be a bit tacky (just like the gold rMB, iPad and iPhone).

On the other hand, I can completely see why people will miss it, it's iconic!

I have a bigger issue with the word 'MacBook' appearing below the screen.

Yeah that word there is gross. I wish Apple wouldn't do crap like that. It's like putting iPad on the front of your iPad. It's like DUH! we know it's an iPad. It's got the tramp stamp on the back or you can look at the software to figure out the type of mac you own.

You sure had a lot of bad things to say about it in another thread:

i had one, loved it. but it got seriously hot, had a dim screen, no backlit keys (of course), and in modern terms, is old, slow. and that thing is heavy.

Which is always going to be true when you compare it to newer generation products. However, back in their day they were both excellent machines.

I agree and sometimes I wish could turn it off. it was nice and all but I don't want or like to bring attention to myself so i won't miss it neither.

R.I.P. Backlit Apple Logo?

The Pismo has a backlit Apple logo. Even the one on my Wallstreet glows, ever so faintly.

My wallstreet light glows brighter than my iBook G4, but definitely not my 2011 MBP. It was also 3d and not flat on the back, with I think is cool, but not to practical, being that it adds to its thickness.

Every product Apple has made starting with the Apple ][ through the rMBP has had the name on the front or back. It's a signature apple thing to do. Idk why apple didn't put it on the rMBP, but it made a triumphant return with the MacBook, as well the MacBook line itself. However, it never left the MBA so...

The Pismo seemed to be the pinnacle of Apple designs prior to Apple's love affair with aluminum. It was and still is a great computer, I believe it still sells quite well on ebay.

Its with great sadness that apple seems to be removing some those features that made them unique. The glowing apple was cool, I wonder why they chose to remove it.

I would have to say the Bondi-Blue era was probably the pinnacle of apple design, mostly because it was such a radical departure from the rest of the computing market and Apple's past products, and it was what made apple "hip".

Also, the design of the Pismo was based off of the Wallstreet, accept the Pismo was thinner, more powerful, and more modern, dropping the old rainbow logos from the device and going with only the new white logos. I believe the design of the Wallstreet came from the original iBook, which was part of the Bondi-blue era with the original iMac.

it really sucks.
I hated it when they removed it in 12 Inch MB and now the MBP..
so sad to see this iconic and unique design feature is gone.
but why? why they remove something so iconic and cool?

honestly, it was my least favorite mac, and i've had many powerbooks/macbooks, since the 2400c (which was actually one of my favorites, and astonishing for it's time). the pismo screen was mediocre, the whole thing felt bulky, fragile. but some people love it...

I still stick by it being a great computer for its time.

I was playing with an early 2000s Compaq Armada laptop the other day(don't forget that the Armada was their enterprise-class laptop). It had a dim 800x600 screen compared to the bright 1024x768s on my Pismos and was just generally slow feeling. Granted my Pismos do get a decent amount of use and are also upgrade to the max(one has a G4).

I recently managed to get a stash of NOS Lombard/Pismo batteries, and I can get an honest 9 hours of full use out of one. That's in the ballpark of the new MBPs.

I think having the light there is cool, but that's it. I like the black there as well.
I am ok with this change. Beyond nostalgia I doubt I will actually miss it.

back in the day (whatever year that was), i liked having the backlit apple, it let all the PC-laptop people at starbucks know how much cooler i was then they were. now, everyone has a macbook (at least in nyc), so makes me feel more like part of a cult (am not into cults). i don't miss it (on my 12"), & have a decal shaping the light into an audio waveform on my 13"... nothing to advertise. don't miss the light at all...

Agreed. Nothing last forever and ever. More cosmetic than practical. Besides, wouldn't it be nice to have different looking MacBooks? Spice it up.

If some people will miss it so much, they can always buy the older models, go to any college class, or check their local Starbucks. A ton of them will be there. I will miss USB-A, SD slot, and MagSafe more than it.

If they were going to continue it, I wished Apple would give us different color options to differentiate between MacBooks. The uniformed look gets boring eventually.

Alot of RIP this year and not just David Bowie, Prince, Muhammad Ali, and the omission of any likeable U.S. presidential candidates this year.

RIP -
Note7
Nexus branding
3.5mm headphone jack on iPhones
USB-A, SD slot, MagSafe, and glowing Apple logo on MBs.

End of an era for alot of famous people and things.

I miss the safe connection for power more - especially with a shorter chord .. i cringe just thinking someone including myself forgetting to check where we walk and pulling a 3500+ euro machine off of the table.

+1.
It is iconic and I will miss it, like MagSafe. Why did they remove both? Just for sake of a change. Apple is lost in the woods and can't find its way out, lately.

yes, they work without reason or purpose, and removed those things 'just for the sake of change'... just like all tech companies.

some of us are more concerned with how our macs work, what happens in front of the screen. am excited about the new pros, and where apple (and tech) is headed.

More sad at the death of the MacBook Air. Replaced by a MacBook Pro with less ports, no glowing logo, slightly heavier, worse battery life, and for $500 more without Touch Bar.

RIP MBA (2008-2016)

you know, of course, that the new entry-level pro has more power, and a retina screen? if i had an older air and wanted to upgrade to a new mac, this would be the one... (or, for that matter, the 12" macbook, which i just got, and love...)
