You're trying to justify the dongle which is the wrong approach. Dongle will be dropped after a few months, per the usual Apple methodology. They will literally force through this change unless people stand up to be counted right now.

Plus, I have more than one pair of headphones I use, depending on location, so I'd need to buy a bunch of adapters, or always have one in my pocket.

It seems like no one remembers the last time a dongle was required for non-Apple headphones...the first iPhone, and the backlash was strong.

i have an LG Bluetooth headset. My car is Bluetooth. I have a clock radio that is lightening at work, if I want to plug it in...

why do I need a 3.5 plug?

I think they hinted that the iPhone 8 will be the real huge leap.

Like Johnny Ive said this is the kind of zenith of the original iPhone.

I suspect next one will be waterproof (or moreso - I didn't get the impression the 7 is really that water proof - just more resistant), have wireless charging (if anyone can find a way to make this really work it will be Apple), etc

Anyone know why wireless charging hasn't really caught on? I thought the idea was that you place the phone onto a mat or dock, or into a (precharged) sleeve of some sort that it will start to charge from there. Still needs proximity to a charging device but no direct connection required. I must be missing something.

What is there to take a stand on, though? You're not "losing" anything? You haven't been deprived of your right to use the 3.5mm jack? They explained that one of the primary reasons was to allocate that space to other internal systems? It's a design choice?

You realize that people said the exact same things about floppy disks and cd drives right?

Eventually other phone makers will remove it as well now that Apple has so you may be out of luck for any future upgrades ever.

...except that Lightning connector is proprietary and I doubt that any other phone makers would be adapting Lightning connector.

I'm losing a built in jack and I'll lose the dongle and need to pay $$$ for a new one. Also, how many inserts of the lightening dongle before something breaks? That really worries me.

OK.... I agree with you on the losing it... and knowing apple it will be expensive to replace.

No headphone jack. No sale.

Well, I do, hence sharing my opinion about them :)

But really, if I'm getting rid of a wire entirely, I always imagine something that is a bud and no more. I didn't ever imagine them as a complete analogue to what an EarPods with a wire cut off would look like. Apple design team obviously feels differently. Or maybe next year's design is different.

Also, just a theory, but I suspect most use the pods packaged with their phone simply because they're packaged with their phone. Don't think looks go much into that decision. At $160, that's a different story. Or maybe not.

I respect your opinion, didn't mean't sound like that. They are expensive, I agree. I guess I don't really mind the change due to the fact that I hardly wear my earbuds. I like the idea of the extra speaker. Been wishing for that for years now. So it doesn't really bother me that they removed it. I suppose they left them long like that so that they could fit everything they need into them. They look like skinny bluetooth's that you wear in both ears. LOL

Im certain you're right. They didn't arbitrarily leave that little stick on the bottom there. I still think they're about the worst looking wireless buds I have seen. Granted I haven't seen very many though.

If bragi got the kinks worked out on their new model, the price is about identical the projected battery life is one hour longer, and they're exactly how I imagined wireless buds to be. That said in hearing. Itching but bad reviews from the previous model so...

iPhone 7S will correct all mistakes of IPhone 7 .Always buy the 2 gen not the 1 first gen .

There will no doubt be generic dongles. Gazillions of them. And no idea why it should 'break' any quicker than the current lightning dongle - I know that's a regular complaint (I have kids) - but honestly, that really boils down to how one looks after one's cables. Surely if there is a fear that the dongle might break, then this would apply equally to the already-existing 3,5mm jack? Why would a dongle be significantly worse?

And as for losing it? Well... try not to? I have yet to lose the cap on my Apple Pencil. Because it's bloody expensive. And I read of people losing it. And I didn't want to. So I'm careful. 8 months going strong.

Yes, if you have multiple earphones, it might be a schlepp. I only really use two. I will leave the dongle attached to my primary earphone cables. I *might* buy another dongle for the other. But I probably won't. I'll probably save up for the Airpods, or whatever "good" 3rd-party wireless pods become available, since they presumably will. 1st world problems I guess. It's a dongle. For earphones.

You realize that people said the exact same things about floppy disks and cd drives right?

What was bad about those? They were unreliable, slow to read/write and their capacity was low compared to newer technologies (namely email and SD cards etc.).

But I still can't see the negatives about wired headphones other than... a wire. They never drop out, never need pairing, never need recharging.

I rarely plug headphones into my phone, so wireless aren't really a good option for someone like me.

After this keynote, if anyone thinks Apple doesn't pay attention to forum and media chatter, I don't know what to say. Their ten iPhone 7 bullet points were all basically damage control against everything being said about the iPhone 7 for months.

I respect your opinion but I think Apple already knows how I feel about this year's phone. They'll know even better when they see I've not upgraded. And they'll know I haven't because my Apple ID won't be associated with said products since I won't be using them.

I'm going to cut off the wires on my EarPods today and walk around Boston. See if I get any looks. Lol

But seriously, I'd have picked them up if they did something to the design to make them stay in when sweating heavily in the gym. These will just fly out. 5 hour battery is respectable though.
Clearly Beats or other corded brands are a better design for most active situations. Expect to be hearing "hey have you seen my Earpod" a lot.

Very different tech world now, those not living in the past recognize this. Carrying several headphones is ok but swapping an adapter is too much, you poor dear.
