Two years after the release of the fantastic iPhone 6, Apple has simply run out of ideas. A little bit of a better camera, a touch more battery life, water-resistance no one needs, a haptic feedback home button that is indiscernible from the mechanical original, two shades of black that no one can see inside a case, processing speed that isn't necessary, touting 'wireless' as if Lightning and Bluetooth headphones haven't been in the market for years. In the end it's just an iPhone 6 slightly revised. So we're going to keep our iPhone 6's. So it's not going to sell very well. And it's going to shake Apple to its core.
I see this complaint here, year after year, when a new iPhone is announced. It's not enough wow factor, it wasn't a big enough leap, it's only an incremental boost, etc. What would you have them add that would be a killer new feature? What aren't they exploring that you want them to explore?
Across the board, most cell phones now are just incremental updates with improved speed, larger storage capacity, higher camera quality, and adjustments to screen size/resolution. I'm not sure where people are expecting it to go. I have a device that allows me to work remotely from anywhere, watch TV shows and movies, instantly video chat/call/text/email any person, anywhere in the world, browse the internet, keep track of appointments and reminders, get an Uber, use GPS and maps, order dinner, control devices in my home, pay all my bills and do all my banking, take pictures and video... the list goes on. Phones are so feature-rich now that you can essentially use them for nearly every aspect of your life. Yet still people complain they're not doing enough. Maybe I'm having some mental disconnect and I'm just not seeing what everyone else is seeing in terms of the phones being boring or doomed or whatever.
I have an iPhone 6 and it's definitely slow when I'm multitasking with certain apps. The speed bump alone between the 6 and the 7 is reason enough for me to upgrade. I've always upgraded every two years since the original phone was released and I have never regretted that decision. Every new iPhone has been a vast improvement over the model I previously owned.
My only one concern this time is that I drive a lot and so I use my phone to play music in the car. I have a 2008 Nissan with an aux port and I have always connected my phone through the 3.5mm jack. This isn't necessarily an issue with the included Lightning-to-3.5mm adapter, but it will be if I also need to charge the phone. I'm hoping there will be some kind of splitter made available eventually. Having said that, I knew this day was coming. I was a die-hard iPod Classic owner and I was beyond disappointed when it was discontinued. But I somehow adapted and moved on. I knew with wireless charging becoming a frequent topic of conversation, we were moving into an increasingly wireless world, and that would mean the 3.5mm jack would go eventually. So here we are. Like the discontinuation of the iPod Classic, I'll get by somehow and adapt.
