Looks like an upside down iPhone with the camera hump on the bottom. I'm sure Apple would go for a design like this because it also makes it easier to add the ethernet port since you have more room down there now. Put in a few fans and you're golden.

Meanwhile the Studio Display is nearly an iMac itself. That form factor is great. That’s what they should’ve done, put the M1 boards in the Studio Display chassis.

That was probably the plan- there's free space inside to fit MBpro-like tech guts. However, by rolling out the screen first at the old iMac 27" starting at price establishing that price now for buying only a screen, they can add those Mac guts in and probably shift the "starting at" to about double the old level. Fans will rationalize the higher price because the monitor only prices out at upwards of $2K with you choose a stand option. Adding the MBpro 14" guts minus the screen, camera & speakers probably gets the new "starting at" up to around $3499 or more.

I am in the process of gutting an old (circa 2005) 23” Apple Cinema Display. I was planning on putting in a modern high resolution panel. The aluminum display housing is thick enough you could stuff an iPad inside behind the lcd panel. If Apple improves iPadOS second display support that could be worthwhile.

This is interesting.

Like many, I was totally expecting the removal of the chin when the M1 Mac came out..... but instead.. there it was front and centre chin intact.

But, thinking about it.... it gives apple devices a VERY distinct 'front profile' - let's be clear - without it you simply wouldnt know it was a Mac - just any old generic machine. Im very surprised they removed the apple logo from the chin but i suppose its not really needed.

The design choices are always a bit weird but they have their reasons... arguably the iMac (existing) looks very nice from the back by design... and this mockup version looks horrible from the back. I suppose the interesting point is always ... "why do I care what my computer looks like form the back"?
In most cases, mine included, the computer backs onto a wall and is never seen from behind.... does it therefore matter that the chin becomes a bum? Not really - but this does look kindof ugly from most angles apart from the front.

Although the chin doesn't particularly bother me (I have a blue one), I would choose this design instead if given the choice. It diminishes the side view only slightly, while improving the front view a *lot*.

Very nice work.

It literally looks like exactly what you'd expect a Chinese knock off would look like.

It's not just Chinese knockoffs, honestly. How many mainstream phones, laptops, and AIO desktops are just crappy versions of Apple products for people who hate Apple but secretly want to use Apple products.

That’s pretty ugly, and not very “Apple Like”. Apple should have gotten rid of the chin, and just made the whole thing a few mm thicker. But I think chin looks better than this, this looks like something HP would do.

I do like how renderings from 3rd parties start making the rounds as if they are real designs.

It would be funny if actually Apple will remove the chin, and then everyone else, from the above posts, will be like, "yeahh looks so stylish , this is awesome " . Oh well, the chin is iconic, but so it was the iphone 5.. at the end we all going to pay double for the RAM and SSD
